Elfman’s score for this movie is still one of the greatest superhero scores ever made. (Technically though, this isn’t the 1989 theme)

This piece is called Decent into Mystery. This music is used in the scene where Batman is taking Vikki Vale to the Batcave in the Batmobile.

Elfman's Batman theme is used so often, the more obscure stuff from his soundtrack is also evocative of Keaton's Batman films. I remember "Descent Into Mystery" was used in some of the commercials for "Batman Returns"

Same! They've all been good-to-amazing IMO, but there's something about the Elfman themes that carry so much weight and atmosphere that the others haven't matched.

@@evangelus3289 Reece’s theme is also up there. I’d argue it has a more iconic edge over Nolan’s theme. Nolan’s works as a genre film. But I feel you can place him theme over any crime, action drama. Whilst ‘the Batman’s’ theme just feels like pure grungy Batman.

I’ve always thought Adam’s Batmobile was the original, the tumbler was the toughest, Ben’s was the most agile, Robert’s was the most realistic, but nothing and I mean nothing is catching Michael’s Batmobile.

@@jamesggggg8598 it’s a good theme, it definitely has a Batman/Gotham feel, just like Shirley Walker, a composer I think gets lost sometimes. What I remember too she was the first female composer to get any form of notoriety, although in life she never got the notoriety most people thought she deserved, this I agree on. Don’t get me wrong I really appreciate what Elfman and later on Zimmer have done for Batman as a whole but Goldenthal and especially Walker have their places too. In the end like everything to do with music it’s all about taste of the individual.

Thank Batman I've found this. Saw the 1989 film again recently . This brooding dark score accompanying the moment Batman takes Vicki Vale to the Batcave is beyond excellent. It encompassed how Keaton gave Batman his cold ruthless edge.

I know the comment's nearly a year old but if by any chance you see this, allow me to say that Keaton was (maybe still is) claustrophobic and his phobia was giving him a few panic attacks, however, he soldiered through them and turn all that fear into something he could use and not let it put him off. And that is why Keaton's performances in the '89 and '93 movie absolutely kicked ass!

It feels really empty without the chior. That was really the magic of the song. Elfmans use of a chorus helped bring that Gothic flair to Batman and without it it's just some orchestral bit.
