"The Dark Knight of Gotham City begins his war on crime with his first major enemy being Jack Napier, a criminal who becomes the clownishly homicidal Joker."
34 years & still is "The Movie of the Decade". I love Batman 1989 since 5 years old & it's the part of my childhood & Michael Keaton is one of my 5 favorite Batmens then, now & forever.
I remember seeing the first trailer in '89. There were no words for the mystery and excitement watching that trailer, it was so groundbreaking and badass, especially without the music. The movie was amazing and set a huge benchmark for blockbusters, it was mysterious, dark yet exciting and entertaing for all ages. Thanks to Tim Burton for his enormous contribution to the Batman Franchise.
I was 4 going on 5 years old when the movie released in cinemas. I love that movie so much from beginning to end. Michael Keaton was superb as Batman. It became my first of the 5 favorite Batman films PERIOD!!!!!!!
Thanks for the trailers and tv spots of my favorite movie of all time. I love the 1st Batman ever since I was a kid when I saw it on VHS, Keaton is the best Batman ever.
“Critics say ‘Batman could be the movie of the decade’”. Indeed it was, ask any 80s kid and they’ll tell you the Batman logo was everywhere summer of ‘89.
I have this movie on DVD. I never knew it’s been 30 years since it arrived. I remember the video cassette of this movie came out weeks after the movie was in theaters.

Michael uslan, in the Batman documentary of this movie, once said that the trailer of this movie can be bought from conventions at the time, not sure that conventions would have copies still of the Batman trailer
Don’t get me wrong. I really enjoy this movie but I really wish Tim Burton could have had free reign to make his own Batman movie the way he would have made it. That’s why I prefer the sequel more. Let me say that Brad Dourif would have made an incredible Joker. I encourage everyone to seek out the “Director’s Cut Version” of a film called “Death Machine” and you’ll understand what could have been and why he would have made a Joker like no other.
Direct sequel novel On April 11, 2024, it was announced that a new novel would be released which would tie-in to the film. Announced with the title Batman: Resurrection, the novel was to be written by author John Jackson Miller, and would act as a direct sequel to the film. The premise of the novel was to be set in between the events of Batman and its sequel Batman Returns, with Batman focusing on dismantling the remnants of Joker's organization while contemplating on the idea that Joker might not actually be dead. The novel would also include certain characters introduced in the sequel, with one example being Max Shreck.
This comment has aged like rat urine. The initial teaser from 1988 was to convince wary fans that the film was to be dark and serious on account of Keaton's casting. The actual first trailer from early 1989 is phenomenal. Modern trailers can take a page from the trailers of the previous millennium.
