Batman: BLACK MIRROR (Scott Snyder's first foray into Gotham) 

I think it's interesting that you didn't pick up on the fact that Gordon Jr. could be Dick's Black Mirror. Same way Jokester doesn't reflect Dick, Gordon Jr. doesn't reflect Bruce. I really like this story and Snyder's take on Batman as a whole. Even Zero Year! But this was my first (conscious) foray into his work, and so it has a special place in my heart.

I read this last year and really enjoyed it. I'm not the biggest fan of Jock, but adore Francavilla's inky style. Definitely some wordy Snyder Batman here - but it really worked for me and I had a good time with it. Haven't read anything adjacent to this in Batman except for a good chunk of the New 52 run which you two summed up well.

I feel like Black Mirror is certainly the best Snyder Batman book from beginning to ending. As great as Owls is it loses me a little with the Owlman reveal at the very end

What changed your opinion on Zero Year? Perhaps you always had this view and we were only privy to the thoughts you shared on your New 52 Batman video (which was a long time ago). But I remember your major complaint being it went on too long.

This has always been one of my favourites, but most of that is due to my adoration of the Gordon's. On the subject of the villans he introduced in this run, most of them come back in Batman Eternal only to be murdered except for the black mirror which is in new 52 nightiwng. James Jr however gets used a few times after this to good effect. He appears as a secondary antagonist in simone's batgirl which leads to the best arc of the run 'wanted' when she thinks she killed her brother. He also appears in two issues of Bennet's run where he become the classic hannibal lecture in prison trope which is used well. The other issue with him is a prelude to 'Batman who laughs' where he is supposedly cured which is of cause done by Scott Snyder and Jock. Though this gets ruined during the mess that was the end of Rebirth where he is suddenly insane again and Barbara kills him in the same way she killed him back in Simone's run. An honestly bad ending to an interesting character, but you know, give it a few more years, he'll be back.

was that a joke? Zero Year is fun as hell! Possibly the coolest Riddler story ever..
