Batman by Scott Snyder & Greg Capullo Omnibus Vol. 1 Overview! 

Ehhhhhh. I already own the whole run in hardcover on glossy paper. I adore Capullo's art but that binding is gonna be a pain to deal with

Just got a copy of the latest printing of this, and the binding is pretty decent, maybe a little tight but there's a good eye, not too much glue, and it lays over pretty well. Bring on volume 2!

I hope this means that we'll be getting a Dark Nights Metal Omnibus soon.

Thanks for the excellent video Omar. As great as the Omnibus looks, I'm sticking my whole Batman New 52 run in trades. It is also being printed as part of the Eaglemoss Legend Of Batman HC set of which I'm 35 parts in. Yes I'm double dipping but I'm very committed there. Cheers mate 😊

I have never read these issues so nabbing the omnibus makes sense from my perspective. It's a bummer to hear about the binding but since I don't have it collected in any other format it's a great deal for me.

I just got the 5th printing of this and the binding/eye is great. Looking forward to volume 2.

Great and informative video as always Omar. I am going to keep holding on on this book for some time. For now I am collecting the Mignola universe, Need the rest of the Plauge of Frogs + Abe omnis and then i have the whole Hell on Earth to collect.

This was an awesome read and just like you stated Omar didn't really find an issue with gutter loss for the most part story was so good hard to put down so it didn't bother me like I thought it would. Hopefully we see Vol 2 by 2021 sometime.

I purchased it day 1... was waiting on your review to see if I should send it back sealed or open it. The glue doesn't bother me. I thought it was only glue & no sown binding... that would have bothered me. This is fine. Just have to read at a table. The worry & fuss seems to have been over blown.

I ordered my copy from Amazon maybe 2 years ago. Got the second printing, apparently. Yeah... binding not fixed by that point. Not unmanageable, but the first/last 300 pages or so need a concerted effort not to flip closed. Hopefully the more recent ones have been built easier to read.

Not sure if I should or shouldn’t seeing as I do own the entire run in deluxe hardcover but who knows I may end up caving and pick it up sometime down the road!

The heavy paper stock and thickness of the glue block is too heavy for the book to open the eye. I've enjoyed limited success in slipping a long kitchen knife between the spine and ribbon and giving it some lift. You could also slip some chopsticks under each end while you're reading it to force the eye (or leave it overnight). That said, I would rather have tight binding than Marvel's binding that just disintegrates, like my Punisher MAX vol 2 half way through reading it.

Been looking at picking this up to replace my first two tpb volumes and the other 3 in hardback (same with N52 WW), but I'm not to sure about it yet. If I do replace them I lose one of the villain's month issues and I don't really want to mix this one with my standard size hard covers until they announce a second omni. I also suspect they would have a small restock of these if a second one does come out or even a revised maybe expanded edition with the other villains month issues. DC seem to have a thing for "Expand editions" at the moment. That's why I held off pulling the trigger on the super sons and planetary omni's. It also looks like this one has the same problems that the newest print for infinite crisis omni has. I don't think the glue is to much of the problem, it's the binding that's just supper tight and because it has a bit more glue there is no chance you are going get a lift in the spines eye. On Infinite Crisis it was really, really bad at the start and end and almost every double page spreads sucked because of there was massive amounts of gutterloss. I even struggled with reading some of if because of gutterloss loss but, saying that the N52 hardcovers had some really bad gutterloss because of too much glue and who ever proof read them forgot their glasses, there are spelling mistakes everywhere in them where they repeat things twice or say "of of" instead of 'of it', etc. (I imagine that's fixed in the omni) I do hear that they also censored some of the dialogue and changed it in this version, is that true?

Great video Omar, but bad bad binding. When i spend that much money, i demand some standard quality. Probably will be waiting for a reprint with a good binding. Will be keeping my hc's of that run.

Got this in last week and the binding is def tighter than i like but it isnt terrible i guess. Ive seen worse. Still wish with it being such a hi profile book that the binding wouldn't even be a topic of discussion but o well. I will say however if all people want is the court of owls story, the absolute court of owls is amazing!

Gutter loss does suck but it doesn’t matter if you go with the omnis or the HC’s as they both have a decent amount of gutter loss. The only way to truly avoid the gutter loss is by going with the TPB’s or the Absolute Court of Owls.

I hope to get this signed by Capullo in a few weeks at the Louisville con!

I have the issues and bought the omni. I do wish DC would have done a better job with the binding but the content is so good it's still worth it. I hope the second omni also includes Metal and Last Knight on Earth!

The binding on this omni is so off-putting, but apart from that, this seems like a great collection. Hopefully DC will address the binding issue and reprint it in the future, because I would love to add this to my collection.

Question? I’ve never read Batman, and would like to start with this run ... I’m have no idea which edition I should get though? The absolute court of owls? The Omni? Or all trades? ... I ask because the binding on this is kind of a turn off but I would like to collect more than the absolute

First ever omnibus and I loved it!

This was on sale on amazon, part of the 3 for 2 sale. I bought it because I am new to comics and want to catch up on Batman. I may end up selling it and get the smaller editions because I have a feeling these will fall apart.

Bummed out about the binding. This is the first Batman comic I pick up. I jumped the gun on this one when I ordered. Think they'll release a reprint ?

Do you think vol 2 will collect his all star batman run in rebirth, because there is only like 20 issues left of his new 52 run and it would be really uneven.

I just ordered this from Amazon even knowing about the binding issue. I have all the TPBs already but it’s just such a great run. If they ever reprint it with better binding I can always sell this one and get the reprint.

Already own all of the hardcovers, so sadly the binding was a deal breaker for me. Disappointing but it honestly just leaves me with more money to buy some other Omnibus lol.

Not sure if you'll get this Omar, but you mentioned a way to improve the binding with a ruler on the Omnibros. Was wondering if you'd make a video sometime on that technique. Love the channel though. Thanks for what you do.

I honestly didn’t have a problem with binding, yes it was tight binding but I had no problem reading it.

I have it, and I loved it it has minimal gutter loss. Surprised you didn’t talk about the non glossy paper

I have had more issues with Marvel Omnis falling apart than DC Omnis. I'd prefer a tight binding to one that falls apart. My Captain America by Mark Waid has completely come apart. I plan to re-glue it but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Would you recommend this to someone who has already read The Court of Owls?

I guess I'll stick with my 10" HCs. The first print Death of the Family has an acetate cover that I hoped they would reproduce in the omnibus extras.

Hey Omar did your Omni have an few upside down pages like page 125 around there?? After the pages are horizontal then the pages were upside down to finish the arc...weird

I heard the binding is an issue. I almost pulled the trigger on this one but I like the trades and my Absolute Court of the Owls. I think the first half of this run was really dope but the second half with the exception of ENDGAME, was really dull to me. That whole DCYOU thing hurt the run in my opinion. The Bat Gordon was lame to me. I would have been happier if they had put Jason Todd in the costume. I think Court of the OWLS is the strongest. I loved the Red Hood angle but Year Zero was kind of 'meh' to me. In my opinion Batman Year One should not be tampered with or the Killing Joke. I am saving for that Man of Steel Omnibus. Will pass on this one. Great run and I adore Capullo but I am cool with what I have.

Can't help but think that it was manufactured like that on purpose so that they could double dip with a "correction" somewhere down the road. I (like everyone else I suppose) have been waiting for this omnibus forever. So when it was solicited, I pre-ordered it. But DC dropped the ball here with that binding, and honestly had I known it was going to be sub-par I wouldn't have pre-ordered and been stuck. Very disappointing.

How many volumes will this omnibus series have in total? Could you please do a video on the Batman reading order?

So I just bought the remainder of my Batman New 52 Collection today, and my question is this: Besides Death of the Family and Night of the Owls, can I read just this series without having to read the other five thousand Bat Books?

And do you think this is the best Batman omnibus out there or do you think an other omnibus is better, if so, what one is it? Most individual X-MEN characters don't need their own omnis. Even for those that have had a limited series or two, most of their e ploits are part of main title runs. Dazzler is different because her after her debut in X-MEN, her entire solo series happened before she actually joined the team. I suppose Gambit would need an omni, given his solo series.

I picked it up about a week, or so ago. The binding is a concern for me, but still worth having for the collection. It is disappointing, however, that DC is just so damn inconsistent these days with their binding process.

I'm curious as to why Detective Comics' 52 run isn't collected in an omnibus. Tony S. Daniels arc alone deserves some love.

Excellent review and convinced me to ignore the binding issue. I’m still disappointed cos Capullo’s art deserves to lay out in front of you, in all it’s gloriousness. It shall go on my “please buy me this for Christmas” list.

I love the paper quality and this book really looks nice, but yeah that binding is a hassle. It feels well built (at least in my copy), not like the pages will fall out or anything, but it’s just not very comfortable to read. On balance I don’t have this collected any other way so I’m glad to have it, but I do wish DC could get their bindings worked out.

The binding doesnt bother me much. If anything it looks like it would last longer. For this series I think I'll keep the individual hardcovers. Just easier to read the arcs that I want to read. This would be more visually appealing on the shelf tho. I always hated that they changed the spine designs halfway through the new 52 books when they did the slight rebrand.

I’ll just wait for the reprint. There’s plenty of other stuff to read until then.
