Feel like I loved this book. But also specifically the Dick Grayson stuff. The way they depict this broken boy & Bruce's inability to help despite being driven to do so, mixed in with Alfred desperate to do more on this second chance. Really great stuff.

The first time I read Dark victory I preferred it to the long Halloween but months later I re-read them both and couldn't separate them. Re-reads are so important to us humans, being such mood changing bastards ;) Art, once set, in all its forms, never changes. But we do. ')

Very true. I certainly liked it more on the second read. They both have some terrific moments, but they're just a little too long and drawn out for their own good.

Love Tim Sale's artwork, it's got the 80's-90's grimy, imperfect look to it and I think it totally fits Gotham and it's characters!

Same here. It feels more introspective. Hard to describe but for me, at times i feel like I was within the pages in his shoes. I was Batman. lol. Kind of the same feeling you get when you're playing the Arkham Games.

I will say Tim Sale has a very specific art style but that Joker design really works for me I think it's wacky enough to perfectly depict how out there he is compared to everyone else I love thinking of his scenes as Batman struggling to understand him as a real living being because of how psychotic he is

My interpretation is that Alberto took over what Gilda started.But Gilda thought it was Harvey cause she was delusional

I highly recommend Eye of the Beholder, if you havn't read it already. Its the one-shot story from Batman Annual 14. Its probably my favorite take on Two-face and it's the origin of a few ideas that was carried over to the Long Halloween (e.g. the Gordon, Batman, Harvey team up)

Have you ever looked into Haunted Knight by Loeb and Sale at any point? It’s in the middle point of The Long Halloween and Dark Victory.

Yep! I think we discussed it on our Halloween special during our first Batyear. I remember liking it quite a bit. Less impactful than these two, but considerably briefer as well.

At least in long haloween Loeb tried to highlight the different villains. there was a chapter for scarecrow, poison ivy etc. So when all the villains attacked the roman there had been a long buildup for it. How the villains were used in dark victory seems really sloppy in comparison.

As always another damn good and funny video. At least this wasn't as confusing as Morrison's was. I'm sure you guys already knew this, but with Neal Adams's death ( may God rest his soul) would you guys cover his and O'Neill's run on Batman. I know you guys have a lot on the docket already. Look forward to the next video.

We certainly have some Adam's books on deck... just figuring out the best way to cover them. We did do a pretty big dive into he and O'Neill's Ra's Al Ghul stories last Batyear if you care to dig them up!

I actually prefer this to Long Halloween. Got the pathos of Robin, plus a better mystery. It kept me on my toes. I also think Sale's art is more epic and gorgeous. The double page spreads of Bruce seeing dick mourning, Harvey getting rescued from the courtroom, Batman and Robin double teaming Joker and Two Face, there is nothing like any of that in TLH.

I'm the same as you with both books. The look lovely, but when you get to the end you feel a little lost as to who did what and how the story went. They both start well and the endings feel foggy

I personally think it's one of Jeph's weakest Batman stories, but it's been a while since I revisited it. It's on deck for sometime this Batyear though, so we will be covering it shortly!

My biggest issue with Batman Hush is that his origin isn’t compelling enough to be a good villain for Bruce, they try to make him petty in the same way Reverse Flash is with The Flash. I think if Hush’s origin was reworked he’d potentially be a better villain.
