In my opinion, episodic storytelling is where greatness comes from. I am a huge fan of BTAS, the Bill Bixby Incredible Hulk series and the X-Files, the best episodes of which, in my opinion, were of the “monster of the week” variety. Of course, serialized or long form storytelling can be interesting too, so long as they stick the landing. (Game of Thrones, anyone?) Subjectively speaking, episodic, more intimate stories is where it’s at for me.
Yeah I can for sure see the selling point or interest that people have in episodic stuff for sure. It’s still a respectable way to tell stories ESPECIALLY when it comes to TV series and comics sense that’s in a lot of ways where the “monster of the week” stories originated. So while I disagree subjectively speaking, I TOTALLY agree with the positives of a episodic story or title you mention and also agree that the like or dislike of it is totally subjective and based on the reader which is why I tried to still shine light on the good parts of this book. VERY Valid talking points and super glad you pointed them out from your POV. PS LOVE the game of thrones Jab haha what the heck was up with that ending!?!?! Never experienced something more flat.
@@Illuminerdy_ That’s not to say I can’t appreciate long form storytelling in comics. I recently ordered the Immortal Hulk omnibus and can’t wait to read it. (I enjoyed your video covering that omnibus, by the way.)
@@zacharynewman3959 Oh I believe you and I understood! We all just have preferences and I respect and enjoy that aspect of reading comics and absorbing media of any type. I also don’t HATE episodic stories I just find myself enjoying long form story telling much more rather then a story per issue. Neither are wrong and I love hearing from you all and the preferences we share or don’t share. (Thank you for watching that video! Dope interesting review bro. I do enjoy standalone issues, so I may give this a re-read, it’s been a while. The way DC is going with all these Batman focused omni’s, I’ll put this one in the back burner to buy. It’ll be milked haha.

Like you I also am not keen on episodic stories, so that’s 2 strikes. And uneven art I hear you say… that book is heading back to the bullpen!! I should’ve been more patient and waited for your review although you did say it had some merit, so fingers crossed I suppose…
I think if you enjoyed the Arkham games or even the Batman animated series then you might enjoy this book. This book isn’t horrible but it’s just not exactly my cup of tea, but I understand and see why some enjoy this run especially when Tomasi is pretty great in general!
Interesting review man, I'm glad I held off from buying this as I'm needing a long break from Batman... Ironic as I'm currently reading the Batman and Robin omnibus by Tomasi and Gleason, which I have to say I'm enjoying. Love the writing and the Art and so far it's as good as Snyder's first Batman Omni and miles better than Snyder's vol 2 Omni imo. Only have Tynions the rise and fall of the batmen Omni to read then it's a massive break from Batman and ALL superheroes for me. Looking forward to re-reading my sizable Moore/Ennis/ Brubaker collections and then my 26 book Hellblazer Vertigo run. I'm not going off Batman I'm just burnt out brother! 😂 Need a break. It will do me good. ✌️
I’m almost always needing a break from Batman haha so I understand completely. Batman and Robin omnibus is probably in my top 3 favorite Batman centric runs so I’m happy your enjoying it. Tynions rise and fall Omni is pretty good in my opinion but still has some low moments, even then it’s still much better then Snyder Vol 2 haha the end of that run was not great haha. Sounds like a much needed break! Gotta take them when you can so you don’t get burnt out. Enjoy your break friend and let me know what good stuff you read!

I use to pick up these issues when I was picking up comics and stopped at 1009 . Enjoyed them so I will be picking this up . But I feel you , I like these kinda of omnibuses where they kinda one shots . Like the Paul dini omnibus. But like you said , will the stories be forgettable. 🫥 keep up good work 👍
Yeah it really just comes down to different strokes for different folks for this one. I didn’t HATE it by any means I still enjoyed it but it wasn’t my full cup of tea. Maybe I’ll grow into liking this style of run eventually if I get burnt out by huge plots, but thanks for tuning it!
Do you think it's worth picking up the eternals omnibus prior to rise and fall and then this Omni after? Or do you feel like it's just lackluster and I should just read rise and fall?
No I do not. I think if anything you should brush up on some Scott Snyder Batman because of some of the elements in here and also read Tom Kings Batman run so nothing is spoiled. I think rise and fall is 100% a better run then this run personally but that’s my subjective opinion and your mileage may vary when it comes to the Tomasi run. So I recommend buying it and reading it yourself and selling it if you don’t enjoy it or read a couple issues online before buying the omnibus.
