Ren Zen Cheap housing. The crime in Gotham must be so bad, that it's bringing down house prices. This is a theorized answer, which is why people are staying, because it's the only place making Poor people look friggin rich!
if you really think about it most of the crimes only effect a localize area so its not like "oh no my house keeps getting blown up" it's more like houses in general keep blowing up. also in the case of things like the court of owls an similar happenings people just might not know the fulll extent of how ba things are its not like batman or the cops are telling people the play by play. but the best theory i've ever hear is that the mayor an some of the other powerful people in gotham are controling the media,
How they managed to turn Kiteman's origin into something so gut-wrenching... I love DC right now. (or maybe it was always like this, but it's still a great story)
Let's be honest: deathstroke would kick deadshot's ass but the only reason that didn't happen is because dc doesn't want to kill a basic suicide squad character
PhantomStroke 32 the story is set 2 years after Batman emerged so they were both close back at those days. Mordern day deathstroke can manhandle the suicide squad with ease cause other than his meta-augments, most of his overpowering gadgets came much later.
+Rubicon Prime Hey, it’s better than Kikeman... I mean, what powers and abilities does Kikeman have? The power to control the media and financial institutions? XD
I'm seeing a lot of people in the comments say that they disliked the story, but I thought it was great. It was cool seeing a war breakout between the Gotham villains. I also like how Batman had to actually work with some of the villains to stop the fighting instead of doing the typical punching and detective stuff. The Joker not being able to laugh was an interesting choice, but it made for a neat take on the character. That seen in Wayne Manor was also great. Most of all, I absolutely love what they did with Kite Man, making him both sympathetic and silly.
The Kraken Experiment right. The not laughing thing actually made him more scary, because it meant he usually thinks something is funny but this time he wasn't thinking it's funny. So he's more calculating and precepting than people give him credit for.
It was a good story, but it could have been written better. Unless comicstorian skipped a part that explains why Batman joined up with riddler. That is my complaint with this story. also poor kiteman.
Roan Wins Games he joined riddler because he had more guys, which he then used to capture all of those criminals easily. That way it was just Riddler, Batman, and Joker
The Kraken Experiment Although I disagree with all of the things you said, I respect your opinion and am very glad that you liked it! Personally, I thought having Batman work with the villains was just flat out stupid. He knew they were going to betray him, so why try? Also, the dinner scene was spoiled by the fact that the Joker and the Riddler’s arguments were half baked. “The Joker can’t kill the Batman” but why? “Nobody cares about the Riddler” but why? Is it because his character is too silly, or that riddles aren’t all that funny? I think it’s that lack of specification that sent it all to hell.
@@karawithgun8148 You probably wouldn't even have time to think cause he probably would have already killed you the moment you uttered the wrong answer
I can see why people would think Bats dark moment was meh. Within the context of the character, it does. Bats prides himself on being in control, so for him to have a moment where he went for a kill shot, that is an ego bruise for him. He thinks he is better then them, so to have that moment where he could have been like them, tough pill to swallow.
You said it, he thinks he's better than everyone else, like he has more self control. That's not confidence, that's all ego and arrogance, so of course one day his true colors would shine through, revealing the flawed, arrogant child deep down.
...out of all the terrible stuff that Batman is put through, this is what makes him snap?! And the one who pushed him was RIDDLER?! That is pretty funny.
I personally feel this was a filler story and the writer wanted to tell a Joker and Riddler story. Catwoman pretty much said what we all were thinking. "who cares?" I get it. Batman is meant to be incorruptible but he's also meant to be a mortal man with faults. After hearing that Riddler caused all this death and destruction for a riddle, hell yeah you'd be ready to end him. Not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things.
@@captainjackharkness2136 Bruce having a no kill rule just proves what a fool and coward he is, look how many people joker & riddler killed/got killed in this story. For ANYONE to keep pretending like these villains shouldn't be put down really shows what spineless fools they are, Bruce is nothing but a coward, this story proves that.
Would definitely love an animated movie based on this. Also really don't get all the hate. I've been reading since New 52 and got a multitude of good and bad stories so what kind of bad characteristic or poor dialogues were here, exactly? It's like saying you hate Mad Max movie or Baby Driver for it's lack of original story (I do hate the former myself, but at least I respect the fact that a lot of people love it and dubs it a masterpiece).
the whole point of the story was that it tipped batman over the edge for a second, yet there was no dramatic build up. no tension, to me it basically came out of nowhere
The fact that Nigma broke out of prison, killed many people, created kiteman because of how incompetent he is, killed his son, hired half the villains of the city, created a war, all to solve one riddle, which would be joker laughing? how is it not awesome?
@@thomasrichardson5425 Which is stupid, a waste of time, we all know Bruce doesn't have the balls to kill, he never has and never will. I learned that afterJoker killed Jason, his own son and he still let him live. From that point I realized Bruce will forever be a spineless twat.
The initial proposal to Selina on the rooftops was more of a statement or demand by Bruce. Important distinction in the sequence of this story. Tom King (author) is acutely deliberate with character dialogue so I'd suggest reading the volume in its entirety for a comprehensive understanding.
I agree. Tom King's outstanding Vision series is what made me check out his Batman run in the first place... sadly King's Batman has been very uneven and polarizing in terms of quality.
Riddler: "Why does the end of the world never come?" Me: *has not seen the video or read the comic* "Because it doesn't have an edge?" Riddler: "This guy gets it."
I loved this story, seeing two of batman's most well known enemies go to war, and all of it, by how I followed it, to get the joker to laugh again (please, if I misunderstood this, correct me if I'm wrong about this point)
It's not that... it's that there are way more Batman stories that examine the same subject (What separates Batman from his villains?) but do it way better. Hell Under the Red Hood had this as a pretty big villain motivation.
Honestly I like Batman marrying Catwoman & hope they actually stay together, I liked the war between Riddler & Joker, Riddler in my opinion doesn't get the respect he deserves sometimes so seeing him put on equal footing as Batman's greatest foe in an all out war was amazing to especially when it's shown that everything that happened was planned by The Riddler from the beginning as a way to get Joker to laugh is just a masterpiece of story telling...............However Bruce's big secret that he was scared Catwoman would leave him for, being that he almost killed The Riddler & the Joker stopped was super weak I understand the idea behind why that would be such a big deal but the impact of it just isn't there really
Last week they released Batman Annual #2, it showed how well Batman and Catwoman's relationship can go on for years. There's even a flashforward that shows a definitive ending to their story. It gave me hope this will last.
Of course since catwoman isnt a ordinary woman, she is part of batmans world. Plus being a criminal awhile, it wouldn't faze her. Plus catwoman loves him.
The real issue I have with this storyline is simply : Why the $#@^ does Riddler give two hoots in hell about the Joker's sense of humor? My secondary question would have to be : Why are Penguin and the others joining in the war, and not just putting bullets in the pretentious Riddler/Joker for assuming they'd care? They aren't flunkies.
i think the point is that batman never kills and when he goes to kill someone it the joker who stops him form killing. which is good as the joker is normal tring to get him to kill someone and it the twist where the joker stops him. And it showing him that if he has a bad day he would end up like the joker but if someone stop him he would be normal
The reason The Joker laughed now was because throughout all of Batman’s life Joker made it miserable and yet he wouldn’t brake the killing rule. But when The Riddler tried to make Joker laugh he still frowned. Batman realized how this was all for The Joker and he almost kills Riddler. And then when Batman realizes that he almost killed another man. The Joker mocks Batman and Laugh’s at him. That’s the biggest Joke he has heard in a while! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
"Hell yea." This was good, i liked it. I guess the reason Bruce was all bent out of shape about it is because Batman is supposed to be this guy who gets shit done with out killing, and because he was a hand away from that he probably did not know if Selena would have cared because it's just not what Batman does. Plus it makes a good story to have a love uncontested.
This has been a fun, but awkward story... like, i dig the thing about the villains, and the thing about kiteman is also interesting.. but Batman, he seems to be just witnessing and.. not really being batman...
Ok, I'll say it, to me this story was somewhat a hit and miss, I enjoyed it but I did get lost a few times, honestly I am ok with Batman and Catwoman getting married, I think it kinda breaks there dynamic down, but if they can tell more stories with this I can enjoy it and it does get me kinda hopeful that we will get Helena Wayne in the main universe, because I honestly cannot stand Damian Wayne and if I had a choice I'd pick Helena Wayne over Damian Wayne instantly, so yeah good story, good end result, but kinda confusing and the revelation I did kind of enjoy I will say that.
I want Helena Wayne in the main universe too. Batman Annual #2 (2017), released last week seemed to confirm Helena would exist and become Batwoman in the distant future... however, certain elements about that story contradicted this one and made me assume it might be another Elseworlds. Still, it gave me hope as it showed a definitive bittersweet ending to this couple.
I like the riddler from the Arkham games. The best version imo. He's believable, but not overly dark and murderous with no reason. Plus his insults are hilarious
If listening to comic readings was like watching porn, then I just had the biggest orgasm of my life. Awesome story, and holy shit things got kind of deep...
This wasn't about Batman trying to kill the riddler What made it dark was he was telling how he is just as twisted as the criminals. Batman was going to stab riddler just to make the joker laugh. That is why it was dark because Batman aligned himself with joker and riddled for the sake of making the joker laugh and he knew exactly what he was doing.
*Spoiler* So the Riddler did all this, Start a War agents the Joker, gets hundreds of People Killed, poisons a little kid and kills him making his father become Kite man (Hell Yeah), on purposely loses to Kite man (Hell Yeah), gets the hell beaten out of Batman, and almost killed just make the Joker laugh again... okay Joker is still WAY more crazy then him
Wdym since Arkham, telltale the comics. He has always been great after the 2000 and maybe some comics and the batman show but they kinda fucked him over.
I don't buy that this was Batman's most darkest moment for him, not even close to his biggest failure, and villains have done much worse than what the Riddler had done to provoke him into killing them, I don't expect Batman would have killed the Riddler for any of that.
