And when you remember that Thomas Wayne was a surgeon, it's like he was prepared all his life for this moment. So meaningful. People usually forget what an amazing writer Frank Miller is when given the right material.
I liked how this movie showed that Batman is not average street brawler but the martial arts master who knew all those pressure points in human body combined with his medical knowledge about surgery (Bruce always wanted to become a Surgeon like father when he was kid) and brilliant tactician who can use conditions to his favour.
Haven’t even finished this vid but I cant wait for u guys to watch pt2 and that whole carnival sequence, its one of my favorite Batman scenes from any movie.
The Dark Knight Returns is one of my favorite Batman comics and this is one of my favorite animated DC movies! I cannot wait for y’all’s reaction to Part 2
Simply the best Batman story ever. The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises and The Batman, Batman Vs Superman and Zack Snyder's Justice League all take scenes or lines or Batman tech directly or verbatim from this story. Great reaction lads.
Dude, this is NOT a DCAU movie. Why is everyone getting it wrong? The DCAU (DC Animated Universe) is comprised ONLY of Batman the Animated Series, Batman Mask of the Phantasm, Batman & Mr. Freeze SubZero, Superman the Animated Series, The New Batman Adventures, Batman Mystery of the Batwoman, Batman Beyond, Batman Beyond Return of the Joker, Static Shock, Justice League and Justice League Unlimited.
I lol’d when Coy said, “Frank is 80 years old,” because I’ve been re-reading some Miller stuff recently and looked up his age and he’s 66. That dude has lived hard.
YES FINALLY!!!!! Thank you guys so much I’ve been waiting for this one it’s my favourite of the dc animation films and there is no other good reactions. Love you guys and this movie so so much!
In a similar vein to this one, the animated version of Batman: Year One is pretty great, but I'd really love to see you react to Batman: Gotham Knight. It's an anthology film, with I think four different Japanese studios doing six different segments of the film, each of which can basically stand on their own as a short, but they're still telling a larger story at the same time. Pretty unique film, and a very fun watch.
@@Benji568 That's totally fair, but I'd also recommend watching past the first 10 minutes, or rather the first short in the anthology. The animation style changes for every one of the six segments, and the first one is definitely the most... stylized, for lack of a better term. The other five look more like western animation than the first.
@MandoC okay. I do have it on DVD as part of a collection. Been six years since I watched them tho. Mainly bought it for Phantasm, Year One and Under The Red Hood. There is an updated collection which includes some of the later DCAMU movies but it's so overpriced here in the UK 🇬🇧.
Love your reactions guys. Again though this is not a DCAU (DC Animated Universe) film (Coy you really have to learn the difference). The DCAU is comprised of Batman the Animated Series, Superman the Animated Series, Batman Beyond, Static Shock, Justice League and Justice League Unlimited.
“You don’t get it, son. This isn’t a mud hole, it’s an operating table. And I’m *the surgeon* “ That’s one of the best and most badass Batman lines ever. My jaw dropped when I first read it the comic and it was even cooler to hear Peter Weller himself say it. Legendary. Also “The Mayor, is dead” 😂😂😂 I wasn’t expecting that
Loved how different this Batman movie was..Peter Weller as Batman is just fantastic considering how big a fan I am of Robocop..can’t wait to see you guys react to part 2!
My favorite part of this is joker. The dude flat out refuses to function without Batman and when he hears that the Batman is back he only has one thing to say “darling” with that haunting grin. Possibly one of my favorite renditions of joker.
This is THE BEST animated Batman movie EVER! And Peter Weller did an amazing job as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Yes, the guy who used to play Robocop is voiced Batman in this animated movie. He is just amazing.
Bruce Wayne always testing his limits. Bruce Wayne's name came from Robert The Bruce and Mad Anthony Wayne two incredible generals and you get to see him as a general in this film, story.
Goddd cannot WAIT til you guys get to Dark Apocalypse War or whatever it’s called, been awhile since I’ve watched so I’m gonna be HYPED when you guys get to it!! The last 2 DCAU movies are the best imo.. LOVE THE CONTENT! ❤️
I love your DCAU reactions, they’re always weekly appointment tv for me!! PLEASE DO LONG HALLOWEEN(another two parter) and HUSH next!! I’d love to see Coy’s reaction to those especially
Also the Batman Hush is terrible.
@@The_Phantasm I think Batman Hush works as it’s own film, separate from the book. However I agree that once you read the original graphic novel, that film is an abomination and character assassination of Hush
The scene where Batman busts through the wall, catches the baby, and says “I believe you” was in BvS when Batman rescued Martha Kent in the warehouse. 🤓
In the comics, Batman isn’t joking when he says he’ll fire her. He fired Dick Grayson and that was after kidnapping him and treating him like shit. For both of these stories read All Star Batman and The Dark Knight Strikes Again
Fun fact, frank miller saved Batman actually because Batman was obviously a detective but the death of Jason Todd didn’t do anything and so they were I believe if I’m not mistaken discontinue the character until Frank Miller took on a darker old Batman like a Logan type of character so people liked it because it suited the character especially after Jason so that is why we have different adaptations of batman
He definitely re-established a darker tone for Batman stories, but this had nothing to do with rejuvenating the franchise after Jason’s death. This comic predates Death in the Family by two years.
all star superman! superman vs the elite! batman beyond return of the joker! public enemies! batman v dracula! justice league doom!!! all bangers I hope to see outside of dcamu!!
So glad to see you react to this film. In my opinion parts 1 and 2 are the best adapted Batman book ever. Period. Panel for panel and line per line in so many places. Ya have a new subscriber now. Can't wait for part 2.
Not a joke. This is my faviroute Batman animated film, and my faviroute batman film (besides Batman Begins). The music is so amazing here, the writing, visuals, the intensity, but also soft moments, like Bruce seeing Robin when it's Carrie Running.
So many memories of these movies watching over and over. We all know 2nd Justice League Dark is what we want after this. But I except a little softer one after these 2. This is going to be a ride.
Sophia Lilis for Carrie Kelley would be dope. Even as a guy who just takes Gotham Knights for what it is (easy with DC, "elseworld" being the easiest excuse), I still like seeing adaptations take a few liberties as possible.
