It's David Goyer and Zach Synder. They absolutely did not put as much thought into BvS as Lawrence did. It's hard to find two people who fundamentally misunderstand these characters as much as those two. Also, hard to find two people who openly hate comic book fans as much as those two.
I've been saying that since the beginning this film is garbage except for batman he was phenomenal but superman wasn't a charcter in this film he was treated as a plot device. Basicly a sacrificial lamb that was gutted and what little characterization he had was feasted upon by batman so he could rise from the ashes, of this dumpster fire the call a film, like a phoenix as the new and improved batman

He's so egotistical that he believes his interpretation of these characters is better than any fan that has been following DC for over forty years. "Oh, you don't want Superman to kill, well this one does." "Oh, you don't want a Batman that kills, well here he is murdering left and right!" "This is my movie, my characters!" And DC loses revenue. Pretty sure no one is looking forward to that Aquaman movie.

Adam says he's withholding judgement until he's seen all the movies of a particular series. I fully disagree. A movie should be able to stand on its own. A movie should not be the set-up for a franchise, with the promise of pay-off at the end.
It's o.k. to experiment, film is just another branch of art, and art shouldn't be restricted, you don't watch the sessone finale, norr the end of a film, you watch the howl thing, so yeah, certant movies like Infinity war/Endgame do get a pass, as they're the finale of the series.
Adam nailed my feelings on Batman killing. I wish there was a scene - just one, somewhere - where Alfred calls him out on the killing, and Bruce basically says that 'He (the joker) forced me into it when Jason died,' or something to that effect.

Only in the broadest of strokes. The devil is in the details, and the details of BvS were muddled and poorly constructed, which in turn diminished the impact of any of the major events/themes.
I was hesitant of ben affleck playing batman, but I'm not going to lie he fit the character amazingly his batman and bruce wayne were both amazing. The movie overall was okay, but the superman parts were just boring, its the same as always he has a morality issue and his mother and lois lane have to convince him that the people of earth need him. Coming onto Lois Lane next she is incredibly frustrating, she plays the damsel in distress who does something stupid (throwing away the kryptonite spear)then puts herself in harms way by going to get it and becoming trapped, I hate female characters who end up in that scenario its so clichéd and boring, just her character in general is really cringey and boring. The actual fight between batman and superman was incredible, superman initially had the upper hand with batman nearly killing him towards the end, what would have been the icing on the cake is if batman had said to superman ' I wont kill you but I want you to know that I can' I would have had a complete fanboy moment if he had said that. Overall it was a decent movie nothing special it seemed really rushed as if DC are trying to rush the DC universe to try and catchup with Marvel, batman basically saved it all the superman parts were the same as his boring ass movies, I cant wait for the Batman stand alone movie.

You guys got this wrong and give Snyder too much credit, he's not the victim of the system, he's very much responsible for this mess. Snyder put the JL emails in the movie because he wanted to, he said so in interviews. He decided to put the Flash cameo in at the last minute. He decided to kill Superman and he didn't even know if he wanted to keep him dead or hint at his revival until very late in the editing. And the fact that the movie made a lot of money says nothing about its quality. Think about it, people like you who didn't like it much still payed to see it. Some reviewers even recommended to see it even though they gave the film a low score. They made a Snow White's Apple type of movie, unresistable on the outside but once you bite you regret it.

I dreamt that Bruce had a side job where he was selling and promoting a new cereal cardboard box, trying to get clients like Kellogs, when i figured out what his side job was (cardboard salesman) he was slightly embarrased and annoyed. Keep your chin up Bruce, you'll get Kellogs one day!
aren't they releasing an R rated home version of the movie? They seem to understand sales better than Marvel, in that if that actually happens then "bonus features" will mean quite a lot more of the movie and a much stronger reason to pay for the movie again.

I feel like james is right. BvS may have looked really good on paper but it didn't turn out as they wanted. I can compare this to writing a paper in my english class. I was given a prompt, I did the rewrite (notes), and i wrote it on paper. The notes I had were INSANE! But when i got it on paper it turned out I completely missed the prompt and got a really bad grade. I think the same thing happened to Zach Snider (bad spelling) he may of just went along writing what ever sounded cool but in the big picture, it turned out to fuck up the whole universe for the next two movies.
I think Lawrence was spot on when he says that the movie raised some really good points and then just abandoned them. The movie really started to delve into Superman's recklessness in the name of 'saving' people, and then all of that gets completely abandoned when the Wayne Enterprises employee blows himself up, and then it's just a clusterfuck of combat and CGI for like 40 minutes.
Non-comic readers will find BvS bad, the movie has many references and show things that people who don't read comics will not understand, or neither will know the importance, also they are used with movies like avengers that are meant for those who didn't read anything to like it. Warner went deep I really liked that, hope they make use of everything they have shown.
Making a shit ton of money doesn't make this a good movie considering just saying the words 'Batman fights Superman' is interesting enough for people to give this movie a try. This was like a Transformers or Fast and Furious movie to me, the action was flashy and fun but everything else I didn't give a shit about.
James: He made the highest grosing march movie ever. That says nothing about the movie, you can slap "Batman" and "Superman" to title and make a 2 hour movie about paint drying and get the same opening week numbers. I agree with Bruce, Zack Snyder is a hack director.
Do I want to watch this podcast? I've got quite bored of people who think they are reviewers insulting BvS all the time, it's a fun movie that's established a good base to build stand alone movie on, you can't compare this too films like fantastic 4 and most would probably say it's better than man of steel or even age of ultron
+Dan Lodder "fun movie" and "good movie" are two different phrases. As someone who has film for a career and has taken lots of classes on the dissection of the medium, this is a bad movie.
Man, coming back to watch this out of general curiosity after Justice League makes me depressed seeing how enthusiastic everyone is for the DCEU and where they all stand now, especially Adam.

Sorry James, but you're missing the mark on BvS catering to the convention crowd. That movie is bursting at the seems with cameos because WB seems to be directly responding to the success of the MCU. WB is just trying to catch up to marvel with a single movie while it took the MCU like 9 movies to get things up to civil war and they don't understand that. Also, WB is a huge company that has more sense than to cater to the narrow crowd of a packed convention hall. They need it to sell to everyone.
I went into B v S expecting a train wreck and although it has it's issues (which I completely acknowledge) it's nowhere near as bad as a lot of people are saying. Definitely not deserving of it's rotten tomatoes score.
+DankyDre420 I only say that because there are a lot of people who use RT as an end all be all for if they see a film or not. Numbers can sway people. I usually just see a movie anyway, no matter what people say. Only reviewer you can really trust is yourself, ya know?
yeah i watch films i'm gonna watch regardless. that's why i don't watch trailers anymore. i'm just saying people don't understand what RT is. it's not a percentage of how good the movie is.
i don't get why batman killing is such a problem. He has killed plenty of times in the comics and there are several iterations of batman where the no kill rule never existed. Something that would have been really cool for this film is if Slade Wilson was Batman instead of Bruce Wayne. This has already happened in the comics and it would have opened a chance to bring in the previous Batman universe into the current DC Movieverse
Yeah but, if you've watched any of the animated movies or know anything about DC.. the story follows very closely to the comics its based on. People complain about originality being wrong to the comics but when a director does follow the origin, they complain it's not original.. like wot. Also, the darker Batman/Ben Affleck was fucking badass and a 2.5 hour movie is justifiable to get your moneys worth.. unless, you know... Avatar.

The "death" of Superman had no real impact on me. The whole time during the last 15 minutes of BvS I kept thinking "He's not permanently dead, they wouldn't kill him off this early". And I have a feeling the next film will probably just have Superman coming back to life.
You guys want to know comic book movies that are also films! ( even tho that sentence makes no sense ) But ill name some that are great examples. Avengers, iron man, captain america the winter solider, and more, the dark knight, batman begins, and more, so why can't batman v superman be a comic book movie and a good movie?
I usually watch your stuff but I think I'll skip this one so I don't go all DC fanboy in the comments, I liked BvS, I think at the end of the day it was a decent superhero movie which is more than I can say for the gritty faux realism that Marvel is trying to push in their universe.
Bruce and James are great critics. Agreed with everyone of their points. What bugged me is that while the whole of Gotham was getting lightning coming from Superman's spaceship, causing blackouts, threatening Gotham, Batman was concerned about fighting Superman. LOL. Batfleck was amazing, best batman ever!
I personally didn't think the movie was bad, I enjoyed the darkness of the movie, I personally find superman is generally a boring character and I found this style of batman and superman to be interesting. I personally felt the down fall BVS it wasn't given enough time for explanation of everything happening, maybe splitting the movie into 2 parts would have benefited from it. IMO BVS was way better than Age of Ultron, Antman.
To me, DC is completely failing at creating what Marvel pretty much accidentally made. They created a universe that is able to contain a large range of super hero movies genres like comedy or serious or just a team hero movie. DC just cannot catch up at this point and Suicide Squad is just their attempt to catch up to big successes like Guardians of the Galaxy or Deadpool. DC just isn't fit to make such a broad universe for film
This BvS is imo the best superhero movie I've ever seen. I loved (almost) everything about it. So, I mostly don't agree with the opinions you guys share with most of the others. But that's alright. I just wished I was with you guys to join the discussion.
Bruce's biggest thing seems to be he wasn't surprised because of the trailers, that's why I avoid trailers, when I saw the movie I was thrown off by Doomsday and Wonder Woman
The best ? The thing is that's your perspective you probably liked because you're a batman super man lover boy but if you actually look at the the story line, the way they describe every character with no tension, the movie is just plain, yeah action was pretty great but story wise was complete garbage. You can argue with these guys but in the end every one will agree that Bvs sucked
Butt Snickers Well not everyone. Cus I disagree and I am no nobody. I know cus my mom always tells me I am a very special boy when she puts me to bed :) Joking a side, I really liked how they did the characters. I mean, they didn't explain much very clearly cus we already understand a lot and the stuff we don't understand will probably be explained in the next few movies. I agree some things weren't the best, such as the weak teasers for the next movies, like Aquaman.. Mehh pretty lame.. But really I can not think of a superhero movie what made me get into the story and into the pictures as this movie. Deadpool, Guardians of the Galaxy ware amazing, but filled and filled with jokes and stuff. I very much digg this dark and joyless way of story telling BvS had. Again, best superhero movie, excluding all other genres. I've seen some real good shit. You are totally right, I am a casual Batman fanboy. And I was pretty hyped about this film. But hype doesn't really color my way of thinking. I am always judicial, especially on stuff I like. So I guess it's just taste.
Most part I agree with the criticism that they brought up. I still enjoyed the movie. 7/10 I would say. I agree with Bruce that Synder is a bad director, in that he doesn't know how to structure a movie well. Great job in visuals and fights scenes but not pacing and structuring a movie. Adam nailed at the end, Watchmen Director cut is an awesome movie, so much better then the original, which gives me hope that the R-Rated Blu-Ray of BVS could be the same.
+TheSacko I agree with you on Zack Snyder being a good director in terms of visuals. The points that you brought up against him though, the pacing and structuring of his movies, have a lot to do with the script. The script is the outline/blueprint as to what they shoot for a movie. That means the order in which scenes take place, and how they ultimately build up are written in the script. Not implying that you were doing this, but I think too many people mistakenly give too much credit towards the director. Yes, they are in charge of over seeing most aspects when it comes to making a film, but the production crew is probably in the hundreds, maybe even thousands. Apparently, Iron Man 3's crew size was 3,310. I've heard a lot of people discuss Zack Snyder's part in the project, but no one is really addressing the screenwriters. This movie was never going to live up to the hype. The premise alone of BvS is a hard script to tackle. No one in their right mind would kill off either character, diminishing the some of the tension that could've been built. The film was destined to come off as anti climatic. It was clear as soon as they announced his role in the movie, that they would try to set up Lex Luther's son as the main antagonist. The issue with this is that the film is no longer the "true" BvS movie we want. It has a fight between Batman and Superman, but it's not the climatic fight the title leads us on to believe the movie will have. The result is that the resolution of the main plot feels like a cop out. Not to mention that this movie is trying to do what Marvel did with the avengers. The problem is that Marvel built up to it gradually, including an Avengers teaser at the end of each movie, and introducing each character through their own film. They had somewhere around 6 movies to set up the Avengers, while D.C. is trying to set up Justice League with 1 or 2 if you count Man of Steel. This takes up screen time, affects the budget, pacing, and can leave the overall plot of the film seeming muddled or even unfocused.
