I purchased same Kong around same time. I 100% agree on the Anderson connector , with the #4 leads. They are too small and can definitely feel them heating up. I’m going to look into getting larger if possible.

Thanks for the view! I've been keeping an eye on them, but I couldn't afford to upgrade them yet.

Nice upgrade. You mentioned the RJ485 that the battery has. That would enable SOC recognition at the inverter then? Would love to see what you get setup with that. I have 3 of the Kong Elites and upgraded the cables for increased safety. Check it out if you’d like.

That's so awesome you got those buss bars. Your system looks way better and probably safer now with those buss bars. My buss bars are not as long as yours but about the same thing I believe

I have read these bars are more efficient and I needed more lugs, I didnt want to stack terminals.

Hi, Im using same Battery in offgrid island.

How is it working for you? I initially had a problem with it staying at "idle" once fully charged and not kicking back on when the sun went down. I had to do some minor tweaking on my inverter settings to correct it. Thanks for the view!

@@DumbGrunt0311 Better to use chinese battery hahaha. I disposed, it giving us error from the BMS and it always disconnected. I email the Bigbattery company but it cost $4200 just for the shipping and logistic. we are in the middle of the pacific ocean.

I really like your batteries. I'm building my own at the moment but if I had the money I'd rather have batteries like you have. Awesome

Thanks...I want to build my own battery as well sometime. Just have to learn a little more about it.

Thanks! They have been doing pretty well for us this summer. Hopefully better this winter than last w/ the kong. Going to do a 1 yr overview soon if ya want to check that out. Thanks for the view and comment!

I'm trying to get the nerve up to make a video myself.. I look up to yall that can do this and not be nervous

@DumbGrunt0311 Год назад
Lol...man Im nervous and repeat myself all the time. Ummmm seems to be my favorite word on here but hell, I dont care. I've made an ass out of myself a lot in the past, doing it on RU-vid don't bother me. I figure I will get better as I go. Pointing the camera at yourself and looking into the lens when you talk feels weird to me. Just keep moving forward, I Sub'd & hit the notification bell so I can catch it when you step off! If a Dumb Grunt can do it, you can. Good Luck my friend and thanks for the view and comments!

I think you should upgrade the kong cables to match the others. Good video and nice battery

Thanks, I believe that will be in a future upgrade. I have to recover from the Kong.🤣 Thank you for the view and comment, really appreciate it!

And yeah maybe upgrade that cable but it's probably fine I just like using the bigger stuff. Seems to be easier on components with the 00 awg. Looking great man for real

I've been doing a little research on the cable but, I would like all the same size battery cabling.

Every time I go to big battery web side. I shack my head when I see how much they want. I bought EG4's 11 battery's, I just build 280 amp hour bought cells from 18650 battery store. Have just over $2500 in that. I fell it's done up pretty safe. Lined the box with fire board.

9 K for the EG4 LIfepower rack system is at good deal over 30K worth of power. Built great.

Wow, that's a lot of capacity! That thing's a beast! All the upgrades look great though! Nice to see the new bus bars and disconnects. Great improvements. In regards to the size of the battery cable, I wouldn't immediately be concerned since you have all 5 banks in parallel, but I would still reach out to the company and find out why they sent such small gauge cabling. It doesn't make much sense since the max discharge is higher than the smaller batteries. Out of curiosity, what made you go with the Big Battery batteries? Also, thanks for the shout out! Keep up the great work! Looks awesome!

Thanks Adam, still a couple small things to upgrade yet. I went with BB because the 10 yr warranty, battery return at end of battery life and I already had there product and was happy with them. When I compared this Kong to EG4 on there 10 yr warranty batteries this was a little cheaper. BUT, If I would had seen your video on those inexpensive rack batteries (cant recall the name) I would have been the guinea pig to try them but I had already ordered the Kong. Thanks for the great content, you have helped me increase my knowledge a lot in this realm.

@@DumbGrunt0311 Thanks! Glad it's helping someone out... That's good to know that BB has a 10 year warranty. Keep an eye on those SOK batteries if you need more capacity. There's potential for them to come down even further in price!

Nice work man. I appreciate you mentioning my channel. That install looks nice and clean. That is a massive battery! What is your total battery capacity now? I’m sure you mentioned it but I missed it. How much of the house is off grid at this point?
@DumbGrunt0311
@DumbGrunt0311 Год назад
Thanks Gavin, I appreciate that. You have been a lot of help in my solar journey and I learn something new every time I watch your videos. Total capacity with the Kong is 40.2kWh. Im hoping to make Winter a lil more friendly but will have to see how my panels do. I have my barn and most of the house off-grid except for my big loads...stove, dryer, AC and basement (large thermostat circulator pumps). I'm gonna connect my AC and dryer up here shortly, maybe even the basement circuit. The only time my inverters ramp up is when my son is welding in the barn so I think I would be good hooking up the rest. Even my WH only pulls (2) load bars on the inverter. Its hard to keep an eye on (3) kids and (2) grand babies going willy-nilly on the power. 🤣 Keep pumping out that knowledge!

@@DumbGrunt0311 that is super cool. Yeah the water heater is really the biggest hog. The dryer and oven are no joke either. But the water heater is such a constant heavy load. A hybrid is really the way to go if you have the space for it.

How the fk did you get that up the stairs? It's like 600lbs
@DumbGrunt0311
@DumbGrunt0311 Год назад
Lol...it wasn't easy! I screwed 1x12's to the stairs to create skids, wrapped a 3" strap around it, gently tilted it back to lay flat on the 1x12's and (2) of us pulled on the strap and (2) pushed from the bottom. I wasn't even thinking about getting it up the stairs when I bought it but when it arrived, I was like "O-shit...that's BIG" 🤣 Thanks for the view and comment!

@@DumbGrunt0311 Yeah I saw the skids and straps, but even with those I don't think I could do it lol. I've been moving mine around with a tractor loader.
