I thought the chests looked odd myself but honestly I’m just glad we don’t have swappable armor plates. The spinning chest feature was one of my favorite gimmicks in the original line.
The Human Crack-Ups! (Alternatively, you could say I had a Battle Armor Sheriff's Hot Wheels car as a kid.) I thought He-Man's armor looked narrow compared to the vintage version. I guess it's easier to notice when since He-Man doesn't have any significant features on his armor -- excluding the abdominal design.
The small window for the battle damage is even more weird when you consider the artwork uses the full size window as it appeared on the retro figures. Even on the figure art in the cross sell on the back.
Just as you mentioned with 2 points of reference in artwork they have released several cases of battle armor properly sized for wwe universe but wanted to make whole new sculpt and tooling for smaller window doesnt seem to cost effective
@@josephraya1417 Yep. That Skelcon first appeared in some comic. Either in the UK or with a record story book. I might be mixed up about where it first appeared. More characters and army builders would be more entertaining.
I saw these two guys randomly at a target a week or so ago before I decided to collect the line, and stupidly left them on the shelf assuming they would be plentiful. Now that I know how bad this line is being scalped I realize how lucky I was to even see them in the wild, and I’m gutted I didn’t snag them as I fear I won’t see them again for many months. Here’s hoping the scalpers give up on monopolizing this line as it really has taken a lot of joy out of hunting these down.
@@SeansModelBuilds my only original childhood figure that survived is tongue lashor. I’ve since aquired much of the vintage figures I had as a kid though.
The vintage Battle Armor He-Man is the first action figure I remember owning. Found him at a flea market when I was 3 or 4. Never had the Power Sword with him but did have the axe. As a kid that chest mechanism was one of the coolest features. After that most of my He-Man figs came from the store, including the "cartoon He-man" as I called him but this first one always held a special place to me. And of course I grabbed the Origins version.
@@facetina Well Big Bad Toy Store has Mosquitor up for pre-order so, although there's no pics yet, I'd say he's more than a rumor now. And he's listed as a deluxe figure so he's gotta have some kind of action feature right?
I guess the best option right now for a vintage skeletor head for origins is the one that comes with Keldor , my hopes are with Dragon Blaster Skeletor (if it gets released)
This line is tremendous fun. My kids and I have a blast playing with them. My complaint is that they're missing the mark with the fine details; the width of the chest plate, He-man's wave 1 face sculpt and battle armour Skeletor's face sculpt. They get 90% there then screw up the fine details
It's a marketing strategy... They "improve"and modernize the successful vintage toys, except then purposefully give the main guys new ugly faces so we have to buy the 2.0 version of the exact fig we ready bought, just for that "new upgraded" head sculpt, which is the one we should've got in the 1st place!! Or maybe to force collectors with OCD to purchase duplicate versions, in order to complete a wave .. Maybe throw in a new sword/shield to sweeten the "deal"!!
These are great, but I wish Mattel would use the vintage color shades. The darker purple on vintage BA Skeletor looks so much better. I wish they would use the vintage He-Man ax and Power Sword hilt, too.
I really like these Origins figures. It has all the charm of the figures I grew up with, but a modern feel with the swapping parts and extra articulation. I found wave 3 at Target including Panthor and Battle Armor Skeletor. Didn't find the BA He Man though. Happy to find anything honestly. It's really great seeing MOTU on the pegs again.
they started carrying some of the 2020 figures in Target stores near me so Saturday I picked up He-Man, Skeletor, and Battle Cat, if they get Panthor I'll get him as well, I might get a few additional figures as they get them in stock, but we'll see, so far very pleased with the set I've started.
I was born in 81’ so when I discovered Masters of the Universe the battle damage He-Man and Skelelor were my introduction to the figures. These look amazing. Although I’m not getting the Origin line, I may have to pick these up.
I'm glad they have the alternate heads, the newer heads (though they're decent sculpts) just do not look like the characters. Its really been my only gripe about the line, on the other hand the slight updates on characters like Evil-Lyn and Battlecat were a homerun imo.
@@MassHystarix Right, I probably should have elaborated on that a little more. They don't have the same appearance of the original toys. You can still tell its supposed to be them of course.
13:55 check out some of your soft-head Skeletor's. You'll see that they've got this ever-so tiny 'Mona Lisa' type smile going on. I'm glad they included the smile, though it's a lot more prominent now.
That’s so odd that the armor piece on the vintage figures look so much better without a doubt, from the paint job to the battle damage feature button being wider. Kinda frustrating that they updated everything but when making deluxe figures they wanted to save money? 🤨
Yep. The old figures had pegs coming out of the chest that went into the arm. These have to have room for the pegs to insert into the sides of the chest.
Never liked having to buy the same figures for something you can pretend like “battle damage “ but the accessories are the real draw. Mattel is killing the retro game!
They should've switched up the half molds for the power sword, so then you'd have two halves that are purple and two halves that are silver, if you've bought the standard and battle armor variants.
Dan, i'm guessing the smaller action is to make room for a retooled action and make it more reliable. My vintage BA He-Man and Skeletor got to the point where flipping it back to look clean wouldn't hold anymore. It would only stay double damaged. But again, just a guess
Gimmie gimmie gimmie! I really like these. The smaller "battle damage" areas dont really bother me as much as the way the arms seem to stick out from the torso. The alternate head sculpts are what sold me on this line.
Two things. First, I can have Skeletor hold the Havoc Staff and his Power Sword at the same time on the first release already. Second I know why he’s smiling, it’s cause he’s fighting! Like he said in the Christmas special “I like fights! Fights are fun!” Haha.
The new action feature is much faster than the old one. With the old one you can see how the reel turns slowly. Not with the new one, it's lightning fast and therefore deceptively real. So a good improvement. The mainspring was in the middle of the old role. The new one probably has two tension springs, one on the left and one on the right. And that's exactly where you need the space. So it's a good thing.
The new He-Man Origins head with open mouth is not better. I really happy, they added the vintage design head to this set. I always will use the vintage look of He-Man for display, why I have bought the Exclusive Power-Con He-Man/Prince Adam set twice to get these also loose in my collection. Hoping when Origins versions of Thunder Punch He-Man and Flying Fists He-Man will release Mattel also add the vintage head, too.
I recently got Battle Armor Skeletor and I'm not disappointed. Growing up, I never had the Battle Armor figures... my dad got me "the Originals". I love the two head options. The default head reminds me of Skeletor's expressions from the 2002 series. It's this seething angry look he frequently gives Beast Man... or Whiplash when he doesn't take the hint. The other head is more like when he's about the get the drop on King Randor, or Evil-Lyn has given him some "good" news.
I love them! Yes, the logo on He-man does look a bit tiny for such a mighty man, but i am ok with it becaus of the other things those figures bring. This is good, something positive and fun, and we all need something positive and fun, even if it is figures and toys. Great review and closer look on these figures Dan!
I love Masters of the Universe, especially the Origins figures. They remind me so much of the vintage toys I had as a kid. Pixel Dan is the man. Thanks Pixeldanor.
I remember finding a battle armor he-man from the original line back when it was new on the toy isle of a Roses store:(this shows how long ago this was), someone obviously took it out of the package and left it on the shelf, and I don’t know who did it though, and this was the only time I saw one of the original version of this toy back when it was new; I thought I’d share that with everyone, but that’s my two cents, and happy new year to you and yours dan🎊🎉.!
Love both of these. Another great video Dan. ♥ ♥ MOTU I know some fans complain about the smaller armour plate. I can only imagine the arms have larger joints inside the bodies.
Alternate head will go on the original He-man and the Prince Adad head will go on this He-man. And the grinning Skeletor will go on my original Skeletor.
as a kid who likes motu and didnt grow up in the 80s, its nice that these origin figures exist because its been so hard to collect the og motu action figures cause they cost so much. finally, affordable motu action figures to collect!!!!!!!1 i have mer man so far
Found these today overseas in Spanish packaging! I bought these Immediately!!!!!! I was like a kid in a toy store...these are amazing! The articulation is perfect for this line+!!
I surmise that they used the standard Origins arms with the plug on the arm. Recall on the vintage line the arm plug onto a shoulder knob on the torso. Replacing the "outie" with an "innie" takes up interior space, necessitating the smaller drum. I would theorize the arms aren't removable due to the drum, either to prevent access or damage to the mechanism, or perhaps the arm pegs support the drum.
I still prefer the old figures and the way they look and maybe it has to do with the way the old logo looks, it's wider and the old figures armor finish is much better too.
I have and never have had any he man figures, never seen anything from the shows, I just want battle armor skeletor and that shark tank thing from the Origins line I’ve wanted Skeletor for a while, he looks like a fun desk toy, but I saw that shark thing, whatever it was called, on BBTS and I need it It’s a shark, with guns, and it’s hot pink! Edit: I remembered the name! Land Shark!
What made me reluctant to get these guys is how common they are at both Target and Wal-Mart. I never thought I'd see the day when He-Man and Skeletor would ride the pegs... with a clone army! (Meanwhile, anyone who isn't He-Man or Skeletor, or Battle Cat, goes fast!)
This line is super-freaking cool. My Battle Armor figures arrive in two days' time! I cannot wait to swap out those heads with my existing Origins figures! (The original Origins Skeletor has that fun open jaw, but his red eyes are just too big for my taste.) Thanks for another excellent video!
I took the Skeletor head from the target exclusive Keldor 2 pack, (the head with the sparkly gemstone eyes) and put it on the body of the NEW Revelations Skeletor figure and it looks AMAZING!!!
Even without the removable arms they are still ball joints unlike the old school ones, so the joint still goes into the body which I am sure takes up space inside.
The chest is probably like that for the rotation mechanism to work alongside the arm pins. Also, I’ve always prefered this He-man design to his og design tbh 😅
