In 2016, 20 years after the release of Pokemon Red and Green in Japan, Pokemon Sun and Moon hit the worldwide market. This 7th generation of games brought players to the Alola region, a land inspired by the Hawaiian islands… a land without gyms and badges… a land without a Pokemon League. But the times are a-changing, and the people of Alola look to establish an Elite Four and Pokemon League Champion of their own. And so after overcoming the Island Trials, defeating the Island Kahunas, and conquering the newly formed Elite Four, you (yes, YOU!) become Alola's first Pokemon League Champion. Your first duty immediately after becoming Champion is to accept the challenge of a trainer looking to dethrone you.
And this is your battle music.
"Battle at the Summit" is a musical celebration of how far Pokemon has come in 20 years, weaving original music with music as old as the series itself. It begins with the same call and response fanfare that introduced the original games, but with a new fire, and the battle begins in earnest. The Sun and Moon variant of the title theme comes in as the music climbs higher and higher into the pounding of drums. An electric guitar solo (played on a synthesizer in this performance) gives a quick nod to the version featured in Super Smash Brothers Ultimate before transitioning into the main title theme that, even now, is heard in every mainline Pokemon game.
Fun fact: this arrangement is our very first full orchestra performance of a Pokemon piece!
