@@Alsebra The King's entire thing is he's wise and resourceful. He can do everything from swinging flails, utilizing tech from guns to bombs as well as magic like when he shrunk the Rook. Gunpowder tech is not out of place in both medieval era nor medieval fantasy and it's certainly not useless as guns can penetrate heavy armor.
you probably dont give a shit but if you are stoned like me atm you can stream all of the new movies and series on InstaFlixxer. Been watching with my gf lately =)

Spot on, Queen vs King when queen turns King into a Donkey it's the same tattoo featured in the knight vs king. I would've never noticed. Imo queen killing with magic powers is just cheap.
Pretty Awesome! The music is actually great. I remember how long it would take the pieces to move in position back on those old, slow computers. I played this version quite a bit when I was a tiny youngster, and this was really fun to see all these duels tonight, after a fun evening at Medieval Times. 🏰🛡⚔
Some of these animations were changed from the original version on computers like the Amiga. For example 1. The Bishop taking the queen was originally attacking her with his pole-arm with her desperately trying to catch the blade between her palms, only for him to eventually put it through (yes through) her chest. 2. Pawn taking queen originally had her trying to run only for the Pawn to lob a dagger at her back. 3. Rook taking pawn originally had him getting crushed into a little ball 4. Knight taking King originally had the king giving the full monty to the camera once he was de-robed, probably because the more pixely nature of the sprites made it easier to get away with. 5. Pawn taking Pawn originally had one of the pawns stabbing the other's foot before hitting him in bottom of the skull killing him. 6. Pawn taking Knight had the pawn kicking the knight in the nuts right off the bat with the Knight having a moment to groan in pain at the camera before falling down.
You forgot about the original Pawn vs. Knight and Bishop vs. Knight battle. The one in the original version just has the Pawn down when his pike or spear was broken in half by the knight, but in this one has the knight kicked the pawn in the face, onto the ground right off the bat after the pawn's weapon was rendered useless by the Knight just cutting it in half after some failed attempts. During the battle, the plume of the pawn was also cut off from his helmet by the knight. In the original Bishop vs. Knight animation, the knight after the Bishop stabbed him in the abdomen was groaning in pain before ultimatey collapsing onto the ground. In this one, the Bishop vs. Knight animation involved the Bishop stabbing the Knight in the stomach with his polearm, and the Knight instantly collapsed after he was stabbed in the abdomen by the Bishop. Personally, I find the Pawn vs. Knight animation the most hilarious out of all Pawn battles because the pawn has the balls to literally play the knight very dirty by just stabbing the knight's balls with a fucking spear or pike. That gave the knight a moment to look at the camera and groan in pain, then die and fall down.
I remember learning to play Chess with the help of the game! Sure, the novelty of the animations would wear off after a while...but I'm impressed at how well they've held up, and how imaginative they are Only one thing I noticed, and I was running the video at x2...is how slow the animations are! On the school computer I can't really remember ever getting more than a few moves out before recess ended 😢
The bishop disposing the knight is probably my favorite. The bishop in general I think. The death of the queen due to the poisoness flower from the bishop is also hysterical.
This is amazing i only had the original release of ea's battle chess and battle chess 4000 from interplay. I had forgotten how incredibly well animated these are. Even the original bc game had great animation. The pc speaker screams are what made the game
The Knight vs Knight thing just reminds me of the joke of the knight in some movie loosing all his limbs and then ending with “alright, we’ll call it a draw.” XD I don’t know specifically when this game and that reference came out, but if they both were made around the same years, then that joke would be perfect.
Das ist noch die entschärfte Version. Die Version die ich für meinen Amiga500 habe ist des so, wenn der Bauer die Dame schlägt, dann nimmt der Bauer die Dame von hinten. tschacka lacka
Haha! I remember this chess game when I was a little, but never knew what the name of this game was. While the animations are slow, I gotta say they are hilarious.
Can the game do an en passante capture? And I always imagined the Queen capturing a Queen to be slap fighting and hair pulling and clawing at one another. 😂
You can do an en passante capture. Look up "Battle Chess Tutorial" and you should find the tutorial for this game where all the pieces describe their movements. The Pawn will demonstrate en passante.
This game taught me how to play chess many years ago. There was an option to turn the fights off, and after watching them the first couple of times, I think that’s what most people did to actually get through a game.
