Just a minor correction. In BN5, only SP version of Roll consumes Holy Panel, it adds +5 per panel and caps at 10 panels total, adding to +50. Any additional is consumed but not added. Making it 80 damage like it was in BN4. It is definitely a good chip during early game when we lack decent healing chips. Definitely hoping for this to save us when we got low health, to a certain degree.
I'd like to add a tidbit about the first version of Roll. In that version she has to physically move to the opponent space by space, if she's blocked from doing so or if she has to go directly down or back to do so, she whiffs. All other versions teleport to the space in front of the opponent, so in those versions, if they are standing behind a rock, she also whiffs.
Roll got that sadism from **THAT** episode of the anime. No coincidence the DS version of her tends to be extra troll-y with its AI. Reminder she was the only DS navi to hit RoahmMythril during his BN4 playthrough with BASS of all chips.
Just want to mention another thing that people do not know about is that BigHeart Program Advance does affect NaviRecycle in Battle Network 3 White Version. So once you used BigHeart, you can use NaviRecycle again from that same damage you used last time.
roll doesn't have to damage the opponent to heal you, if the enemy is protected by a barrier/aura, you still get the heal roll was meant to do. also smh addressing the softlocks but not the fact that in bn4 if you use roll while in anger or full synchro it causes the chip to do x2 damage, but instead of x2 healing, it will fully restore your hp / completely delete you if the enemy has anti-recov 🗿
RollSP boosted by full synchro will completely heal you in bn4 and yes anti recov will kill you if you try that :) this is fixed in the legacy collection
Ah Roll. Literally the ONLY MEGA NAVI CHIP to make it through every game, Guts was close being in 1-4 (RS). Bass is Giga only (and you can never get more than 1 of him so...)
While Roll is still an amazing chip, I didn't feel the need to run it during my last playthrough of BN6. You're so overpowered in that game that the extra healing isn't necessary. Plus the Legacy Collection has those item cards that give you free subchips.
am I crazy, I remember that roll in some of the games could let you decide which virus it targets by pushing the up down arrow if they were in the same column
One thing that confuses me is how BN5 RollSP has the "???" attack thing even though the other BN5 SP Navi chips don't have this trait. I thought it was tying into the holy panel thing but no, base Roll gets that bonus too. Really weird.
No. It doesn't, I test it just now in Legacy Collection since I remember only SP version has this property and I was right. In BN4, all SP and DS Navi chips had that ??? for attack value, because, it is BN4 for all its flaws. In BN5, because Roll wasn't a boss you can fight, this SP chip needed an alternative way to boost the damage and healing value and that is how Sanctuary becomes incorporated. ??? is in every DS Navi chips because it varies depending on how many times Megaman gets the stagger frames but otherwise starts and caps at the same damage value like SP chip.
As a kid I always thought it had a ??? attack value so that you wouldn't be able to boost it with attack+ as a multi-hit. I love these games but sometimes they'd be really obtuse with their mechanics.
That chip that is given as a freebie throughout the course of the game/10 and a super basic easy to use one Although definitely on the weaker side so you'd quickly outscale them in PVE IMO. In BN2 the standard quality for V3 was 200(see: point blank Airman/Quickman, 5's was kinda jank and 6 kinda puts them in the right spot for it damage wise I imagine in BN5 PVP its quite nice? since it swings your HP advantage by quite a bit(240 on EX and 360 on SP)
