I had to record whole battle in slow motion with no sound at all, so all of the sound effects you hear are my edit, I think it doesn't look that much bad! :) The first cavalry part is a bit short but as you know it's about the animation limitations, I tried to show the tactics of Hannibal as much as the game engine allow me and I hope It's fine. Also, the formations might not be the same as like the other works/movies but I think it looks quite similar, Roman center are strong, while the Carthaginian center side is arguably weak. Huge thanks to my friend for his help, especially for the ''birdview'' parts. To see my membership perks, don't forget to visit here; ru-vid.com/show-UCeUbHoBdc6iC2a-AxZ4RRsQjoin

@@ihebbenrhouma3957 Yes, that happens a lot and frankly I understand why this happens, when you see a number on a screen you don't attribute that number with a person who had hopes, dreams, families, friends, lovers, etc. You see their statistic, as much of a madman Stalin was, he was correct in the general human perception of "One death is a tragedy, one million is a statistic" of course because he was a malignant sociopath he assumed that this means people don't care, no, I've seen many videos reacting to the casualties of WW2 and have seen the horror on every person's face, part of the problem is our minds simply cannot comprehend that scale of loss fully, a single death in the news and said news station telling the victim's life story is a lot more simpler and personal to understand, that's why people seemingly "care more" about it.
@Hybrid980
@Hybrid980 3 года назад
@@ihebbenrhouma3957 Also there's the fact that time eventually does soften the impact of a historical tragedy. Now or days if you made a joke about 9/11 in a random club performance, you'd probably get a few chuckles mixed with some uncomfortable silence, if you did this twenty years ago? You'd be lucky if you left town with your life. This is an event not even two decades old, now imagine an event that's thousands of years old...

Hannibal studied his enemies very carefully and his own army was a very professional one. He knew the legions would try to steamroller his battle line so he developed a shock absorber fighting line to counter it. The visual effects of modern video games truly is the makings of our very own time machine. This really gives a fantastic close in perspective of what it must of really looked like to see so many men engage in combat. Cannae was near complete devastation for many Roman Legions who in parts were packed so closely together due to their envelopment that they could not even lift their weapons to fight or defend themselves. Because of this the Romans and their allies were where they stood systematically killed by the tens of thousands. Modern estimates put Roman dead at around 50 thousand, an astonishing number for a single days action and even more so to think that the whole event was over in just under 6 hours. To put that casualty rate into some perspective it would be the same as the entire capacity of arenas such as the Colosseum in Italy, modern Anfield in Liverpool England and the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig Germany. Very well put together video thank you for the content. 👍

Great clip! Really captures the chaos on the field. Can't imagine anything more terrifying than being a Roman that day, hemmed in, hearing your death coming closer and closer. And I'm not sure how Hannibal could have possibly besieged Rome after Cannae without siege equipment or enough men. About 150 yrs later, Rome simply besieged the besiegers at Alesia--no reason they couldn't have done the same to Hannibal. Plus, much of the peninsula was still Allied to Rome, and he needed to keep ravaging the land and destroying Roman armies to show the tribes that Rome couldn't protect them. Hannibal was brilliant, but none of them were nice guys.

Wonderful work here. Excellent execution. Captivating. I'd love a build up just prior the battle maybe next, armies emerging from the woods, perhaps a quick in-fiction spoken run down of the plan between generals overlayed with shots of the battle. Perhaps even how plans change as the battle rages. Also I'd love dialogue from the perspective of the Romans. Again, thank you for all the work and to those who helped you.

Thanks a lot mate! If you want to see the battle plan and the true mastery that Hannibal had over warfare you should check out Historia Civils. They have an video dedicated to cannae as well as a whole series on Hannibal in Rome and even the ambushes he faced when crossing the alps. Definitely recommend checking it out if you’ve never studied the Punic wars. Honestly every battle was fought like this with Hannibal having a master plan that always worked.

you have immense talent. Grateful that you put your talents to showcase a great moment in history. Hannibal Barca's battle victories and pioneering war tactics echoed throughout the region and later the world. He won battles against statistical odds. He gave many tribes hope, inspiration, and motivation to go up against the greatest war machine in the time. The roman Empire. An empire that had great amounts of soldiers, wealth, and resources. All plundered from other regions. An empire designed to plunder and enslave for growth.

Mago: “Hannibal, you can win a battle, but not the war!” (After Cannae, the road to Rome was open and his for the taking, but he did not feel he had enough troops to take the city and Carthage refused to send reinforcements).
@scotthenderson292
@scotthenderson292 2 года назад
Hannibal did have a point. He had no siege equipment and no help from Carthage. Even if he took the city, which would have been challenging even for him, he would have found it difficult to keep the city from determined Roman attempts to retake their capital city. He held out hope for a Roman capitulation which would have ended the Roman attempts to march on North Africa and Spain. He never really had enough men to secure the entire Italian peninsula. Can you imagine how different things would have been in history if Hannibal had gotten the support he needed. History as we know it would have been entirely different

I still cannot fathom the sheer loss of life on that day, or any day for that matter. Medieval and ancient battle fascinate me, for the hand-to-hand combat must have been unprecedented. I'm not sure any of us have seen 50,000-70,000 people at one time. Perhaps at a sports arena, but even then, it's difficult to imagine everyone all on one battlefield fighting to the death.

It still shocks me that the route, was really planned in advanced, with most the troops seeming to understand his intentions. Hannibal was one hell of a leader.
@KroM234
@KroM234 2 года назад
It is actually debated whether this exact plan was fully intentional from the start. It is clear that Hannibal wanted to surround the Roman army, but many historians actually believe that the Carthaginian center slowly giving in was not something planned on before the battle developped, but rather the lines being pushed back by the legions. But without this crucial move, Hannibal could very well have failed to surround the Romans, and the center would have collapsed. It is more likely that Hannibal saw the center being caved in, and seized the opportunity to execute a complete surround. Only an idiot would have gone into battle with a plan THAT precise and all the things that could go wrong with it. Hannibal never would have put all his coins on one bet, he most likely had a simpler plan, that he could adapt and improvise from: lure/defeat the Roman cavalry, then flank the Roman army on both sides while the cavalry strikes from the rear. Then he saw an opportunity for a complete surround, and took it.
@graham5716
