I'm not Naga but I love the Naga People. They are basically people of substance, they can be trusted, they are so so polite, they are brave. India should be grateful that such people are citizens. My Grandfather, mother's side, was the presbyter of Earl Hostel in Shillong where the Naga students used to stay, and my mother was their sister. I have studied and grown up with these beautiful people and I think I can relate with them more than with any other race in India. I pray for their betterment and wellbeing.

If you're saying that Indians were worse than Japanese empire. I'm sorry, you're really wrong. Yes, specially the times of conflict in Nagaland and other parts of India due to insurgencies was brutal and violations from both sides happened. Not because of race. And Nagaland also had brutal killings and conflicts from inter tribal rivalries. The Japanese empire on the other hand was genociding, Killing, raping, looting, wiping out small islands, in millions throughout Asia Pacific so that the Japanese can occupy the land of the indigenous people. You can't compare them both.

I was eight years old in 1944 but here in the UK we knew about the impact the Battle of Kohima had had on the War and the help the Chindits received from the Nagas. In 1965 I tried to enter Nagaland by train to see the country and its people. On the border I was arrested and put onto to a train going back. I have always resented this incident - the only time during seven months travelling around all corners of India and its neighbours where I was not given the warmest of welcomes. Best wishes to Nagaland and may you and your people have happy and peaceful lives. We do not need wars. We have enough to worry about with climate change and its effect on the ability of the world to provide food and drink for its people.

Awesome. We need to forgive and make peace to move forward and progress. I remember in 1996 a group of former Japanese Imperial Army came to Sarawak (Malaysian Borneo) and made peace and reconciliation with the native Borneons for the atrocities inflicted by both sides during the war. The Dayaks (Borneon natives) too have not came out clean of the war. In fact theu were involved in some of the most brutal killing of the Japanese forces including reliving the headhunting practice a tradition long banned bybthe Ditch and British, solely for Japanese army heads. I remember in my grandfather's photo during a victory parade one native chief displayed a skull of a police chief (who tortured him severely during the war) after the war. The jungle of Borneo was basically neutral of the invading Japanese. The fierce and forest dwelling tribes of Borneo were as brutal as the invading force, in fact were responsible for many undocumented war 'crimes' and inhumane treatment of their enemies.

The hearts of the Nagas was won by E. Pawsey's words. But after the war, He(Pawsey) left the nagas to decide for their own future under the hostile Indian Armies. Had the Nagas fought alongside the brave Japanese, wonder what the result might be from now. Because after the war,as the bristish simply left us all alone, exposing us to dangers, the hostile Indian armies came, captured, burnt many villages to ashes and tortured, raped, beheaded many innocent NAGAS. The attrocities meted out to the Nagas by the Hostile Indian armies shall never go unpunished by the Supreme Being.

The saddest part of the world Wll is that it was fought in the land of ignorance and peace where the inhabitants of that region had no slight concerned with either party involved in war. The Nagas who did not had any clues of the ideologies and objectives of either Britishers and Japanese felled victims and suffered miserably in the war. Despite suffering and anony, the Nagas extended assistance as an informers, porters, providing local vegetables, paddy and so on to both the parties. But the situation aftermath of the War was so ironical as both the parties leave the Nagas without any words under the government of India. I personally regret that the Britishers would have had clearly pointed out that Nagas and Indians are two different ethnic groups and the Nagas should be leave alone to determine their own fates and future. The Nagas had sacrificed in world War ll and has been sacrificing in the name of Indo-Naga political issues since 1947. If the Britishers clearly stated that Indian and Nagas are two different entities then Indian would not have been interfering in the internal affairs and the freedoms of the Nagas.

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and his Indian National Army along with the Japanese force reached Kohima in 1944 and a base camp was established at Ruzazho, the first Azad Hind Government administered Village. Mr. Poswuyi Swuro from this village was the first appointed administration representative of the Azad Hind Government in Nagaland in 1944. I have met him last year and taken his interview. The British Empire sold us out to the Indians. They basically conquered a self-sustaining contiguous independent village republics with its people having no historical, cultural, religious or racial commonality with India. A land so distinct that it had never been conquered by any Indian empire since time immemorial but when the Britishers left they gave our land as a parting gift to the Indians and to this day the struggle for Naga Independence continuous. ~Kuknalim~ ~ Victory to the land and its people~

A fascinating , informative & balanced documentary. Also interesting to read these comments. My father was in the British Second Division at the Battle of Kohima, and always spoke very highly of the Nagas. He said they ran uphill without effort, their legs were so strong, and were always cheerful, with a great sense of humour. For example, he said that one of his comrades tried to 'chat up' a young Naga woman. As he tried to converse with her he kept feeling something tickling his backside. Thinking it was some insect he tried rubbing it off, and the girl started giggling. He turned round and there was this Naga man crouching down prodding him with a spear. Yes, the British wouldnt have won the Battle by themselves. And it was the decision by General Sato to retreat , against orders , to save his men, that brought it to an end.

The younger generation must not forget the hardships our forefathers had endured to preserve and protect our land as a freeman and a nation among nations. Nagaland was a free country untill the evil of imperialist put the Nagas under their sphere. The ungrateful Britishers left the Nagas as no man's child and thereby the shameless Indian who theselves suffered at the hands of the colonial power invaded our country. You may lie thousands times to the people but the historical fact of militarily conquered our land, burning our villages, raping and burying alive the Nagas cannot go unnoticed and it will remains so. Its time for the Britsihers to correct their wrong doings.

Also as you say injustice is everywhere . It is due to injustice that we are in Indian territory today. If you don't know how our innocent civilian Naga ancestors suffered and died due to your army please don't state our togetherness. It is due to the pillaging and burning of our ancestors houses that some of us till today are poor also, we get robbed and has the government done anything special for us northeast except build a frickin road joining india with south asia?

This once mighty British came, tortured us, utilised us in their fight against attacking Japanese force, won the battle and left us alone at the mercy giant India despite knowing the desires of the Nagas. What an ungrateful country!!! It was the senseless and ungrateful British government that thousands of Naga sons and daughters have been killed under unthinkable cruelty, hundreds of villages burnt down, severest human right violations unleashed, etc by occupational Indian army. Did the great British even murmur over the genocide perpetrated by India on several hundred times weaker nation called Nagaland? We need your political statement on this Indo-Naga-Myanmar international issue which you have abandoned in hurry like a coward. You owe us explanations.
