This video made me realize how horrifically terrifying being an airman would be in these types of wars. People often think about how scary being in a plane crash would be, but these men saw, and experienced hundreds of plane crashes in a few days. The amount of absolute Chad like balls you'd have to have to fly in this situation is immeasurable.

@@destroyerarmor2846 OH! For sure, no doubt dude! I was in the US Army, and often thought about how I would react in a firefight (I never got deployed but I heard very detailed stories, and videos ect.) I was just saying people don't often put themselves in the mindset of flying a plane in a battle zone (at least I never really thought about it). The few seconds between your plane getting hit, and you hitting the ground has to be the scariest feeling imaginable. Just knowing you're going to die with nothing you can do to save yourself.

@abis9 alpha9 That would only work if soldiers were densely packed like marching in a tight column, which would disperse immediately if a plan dived at them. The most effective anti-infantry weapon would be aerial bursting rockets loaded with shrapnel. You'd have to saturate the area because infantry is not huddled together but are spread out and taking cover in trenches/foxholes or under armored vehicles.

Would have been better if the Germans had been succesful at Kursk. Because whatever happened next, Germany would lose and this would have just slown down the Soviet advance, thus the Western Allies would have gotten much more eastward. That way millions of people would have been saved from the enslavement that lasted till late 80's. D-day is the most important, when you look at things now. If D-Day would have failed, Europe would be a undeveloped wasteland, just like most of Russia.

One interesting innovation Souviet aviation used during the Battle of Kursk was PTAB - Anti-Tank Aviation Bomb. It was very small bomb, of only 2,5kg in weight, which used cumulative charge to penetrate the armor from above. IL-2 could take as much as 4 containers of 48 PTABs each, they were also used by bombers and fighters. PTABs were dropped massively and covered quite large area; hitting a tank with one bomb was usually sufficient to take it out. By the end of the war over 14 millons of PTABs were produced.

What I find funny about the battle of Kursk is the Soviet equipment losses are much more than what they threw into the battle. Because unlike the Germans who recorded losses as in the vehicle completely wiped out of existence, the Soviet just put down any damaged machines as a loss, then they repaired it and put it back in action, then if it get damaged again they would consider it as another loss.
@user-xh9pu2wj6b

@minhvo8009

@@user-xh9pu2wj6bYeah it make sense. The Soviet were much more concerned about the ability to fight of their machines on a daily basis, so if any equipment does not available the next day, it would be count as a loss. It's a bad recording habit for future study but I think its pretty good for their commanders to make decisions. If I was a Soviet officer I would also want to know exactly how many tanks or planes I could use in the next day.
