Its wild how in the west we talk about the encirclement at Dunkirk at the beginning of the war, and D-day and the battle of the bulge near the end as huge events. Meanwhile the eastern front was just dozens battles back to back far more brutal and desperate and on a much larger scale.

Stalingrad is one of the single most hardcore occurrences in human history.

You left out the best part about Paulus! Him saying “I have no intention of shooting myself for this Bohemian corporal,” referring to Hitler.

Germans lost more soldiers trying to capture one building (Pavlov's house /дом Павлова) in Stalingrad than in the entire French campaign. For 58 days they were not able to take control of it.

The Russian plan to encircle german troops in Stalingrad and to hit them from behind was called operation Uranus? Well that’s convenient 😅

Honestly, Zhukov is such a badass. If you read his entire life, it's one badass episode after another. The guy annihilated the Japanese at Khalkin Gol, defended Leningrad, encircled the 6th Army at Stalingrad, pushed the Wehrmacht all the way to Berlin, basically pioneered armored tactics in the USSR, was probably the only guy to stand up to Stalin and call him an idiot to his face and live, and he basically dragged Beria out of power after Stalin died.

actually, the reason hitler promoted paulus to the rank of field marshal was so he would kill himself before being captured, it was a secret message that paulus understood but by then he had lost all of the respect that he had for hitler, so he didn't do it

We visited Volgograd in September 2014. Utterly fascinating museums and truly remarkable to visit Von Paulus' headquarters at the GUM department store. The flour mill, Pavlov's House and the grain silo are all equally fascinating.

Best Stalingrad video I've seen so far!

Some extra facts I feel should've been in the video. First, Army Group B had from July to November 150,000 casulties but only got 100,000 replacements. Meanwhile Army Group Centre had 146,000 casulties, while getting 192,000 replacements. In fact all Army Groups did the get enough men to replace losses, except Army Group B. Across the entire Eastern Front there was more replacements than there was losses, but not by much. Meaning that Army Group B and all other Army Groups could've replaced every lost man, but instead Army Group B got shafted. A net loss of 50,000 men would've been quite significant. Secondly, in mid August, Army Groups A and B had 11 division taken away, 6 Infantry divisions, 1 Jäger division, 2 Motorized division and 2 Panzer divisions, only to be replaced with 3 Italian divisions and 4 Romanian divisions with 8 more divisions due in early September. Having a net loss of 50,000 men and losing 11 divisions only to be replaced with inadequate and fewer divisions would have been a major blow to Army Groups A and B fighting capabilities. Bonus fact. It wasnt Göring that convinced Hitler that the 6th Army could be supplied by air. Because at the time he was chairing a petroleum conference in Karinhall. Hitler as the Chief of Staff of the Luftwaffe, General Hans Jeschonnek, if it was possible and Jeschonnek said yes, as long as the Luftwaffe retined control of foward airfields. But during a telephone conversation with General von Richthofen, Jeschonnek was convinced it was impossible and tried to dissuade Hitler only to be brushed aside. Göring arrived 22 of November and felt compelled to say it was possible, even though he had had not oppertunity to calculate the tonnages, because he didnt wasnt to go against what his generals decision and more importantly Hitlers decision. Hitler after Jeschonnek innitial assesment refused to change his mind and we all know the rest.

Your graphics never looked as good as they do in this vid. It has such an immersive feel that the vid drew me in, despite me not being particularly interested in Stalingrad (as it has been covered to death before). Great job! I've read a book by Saul David before on military disasters and it pointed out that the Stalingrad offensive was supposed to be just a sideshow for their attack as their main objective are the Baku oilfields as Germany was facing shortages of it. So the attack was more economical rather than tactical in nature. That Hitler forced his generals to change their plans to concentrate on Stalingrad speaks more as to how he's starting to lose touch with reality by not concentrating on strategic targets that served him well on their earlier victories. Propaganda also had a lot to do with the attack, as levelling the city of your rival will make a great propaganda piece. In the end, it proved to be Hitler's undoing.

The battle of Moscow, the battle of Stalingrad, the battle of Kursk, the defense of Sevastopol, the defense of Leningrad, operation Bagration, and others were part of the great Patriotic war. The Soviet people liberated the territory of the Soviet Union from the hordes of Hitler and began to liberate Europe, reaching Berlin and defeating the fascists in their lair.

I recommend everyone to watch a series of films entitled "Soviet Storm" Such a drama should not be missed.

Army composition is good, as well as the map of Stalingrad and I love the unit symbols, again, brings back the feeling of my playing HOI4 Artworks and clips are awesome, Good job! Those bomb blasts graphics are awesome, wish there were more for the Henkel111's and maybe lowering slightly their sound, as it competed albeit not impeded narration. I really find it amazing to think all this chaos and industrial scale bloodshed was such recent history and within my own grandparents life time. Really makes you think about how lucky we are to be alive today and how much we take for granted.

5:27 Source of "thousands of deserters being executed" ? The 62 Army executed around 49 people for deserting, which were most out of any of the armies. They had 10 more armies. So lets play with the idea they executed 30 people each. So my guess like 349 people executed for desertion. Out of 1.000.000+ million military force. Anyone want to dig into it more?

8:25 Actually, Italian Blackshirt units and "Ravenna" infantry division were among the best on the Stalingrad flanks, but they got overwhelmed with tanks
