For anyone who has never had the pleasure of hearing a performance engine without any baffles close up... It is beyond a loud sound. It rattles through your entire body and smashes your eardrums to a flapping mess.
Great video. I never competed in any hillclimbs. I did go to watch a few of them. For anyone who has never been to one and just see video, and think 'aww this is easy', think again. Whether is a TV event or RU-vid video, you don't get a real feel to just how steep these hillclimb hills really are. Way steeper than any MX track hill I raced on in over 1000 moto's all over the US.
Love the old bikes. We had a alcohol fed yz465 in a micro-midget. Dad sold the car i put it back on the bike, still on alcohol. Whaaaaat a rrrruuush!! Mom cought us jumping the creek into the cornfield, made trade it for half a beef.😭 None the riders around would ride it....not enough sack.
Why do the engines seem set oddlike The low end is snappy but the high end is lacking Is it set like that on purpose or is my deaf ears just not hearing it right. The dude who lost a bet his bike was running what sounded proper it even hit the rev end as it began to limit the output power I am deaf and just learning how to tune again. 😢never expected to loose my hearing but I’ll tell you it helped me learn now I feel the engines I build and tuning has become easier for me 🤷♂️ask me how why what I could not answer. Call it lost some of my senses and gained new ones. 🤓🤘😎 Only a few bikes in this whole event sounded dummied down to be clear. Not all of them seemed governed though.
I can Gurentee you 1000 Dollars that none of thse 2 strokes absoluty DO NOT make more then the new 450's lol. I have biuld many of these types of motors and these 450R motors are capible of crazy HP numbers. On Average just for a 450R Quad engine with standerd bore, high compression ported head and balnced crank with a simple stage 3 hot cam makes 60+ HP, most of those old 2 strokes 500's and s on make 40 to 60 depending on the mods. 4 Strokes now days are not like the old motors that's a big misconception witha lot of people. Belive me. I have a couple Dyno Run videos on a couple bikes I biuld on my Channel achiving 60HP with just tp end work that went from 36 to 63 HP or moe.
I have a 96-97 CR500. The frame and or swing arm was bent on the original 96 so I found a mint 97 frame and a 2001 swing arm for her. Extremely rare Noleen pipe, shortened FMF silencer- barely pokes out past the number plate, ported, head shaved. Shes a beast and I love her! Long live the CR500!
The sound and smell of a 2 stroke….. Come on Honda get your head out of the butt and give us a 2023 or 2024 2-smoker!! Love this channel!! Especially the 2 stroke content. Thanks for the great entertainment!!
@@xaydee3631 that is a TT Harley motor,,xr750( could be bigger) notice exhaust is in front on both cyl. Many years racing has proven,it is bullet proof!!!(does not break) I can't really tell on this particular one, but... I have seen these with one downdraft carb., and one side draft carb.130 h.p up to 150h.p. over 100 year old engine design, has only had competition recently....on a 1 mi.dirt track
Thanks for the awesome video, Brother. Laughing at that guy with the pink tutu. I was pulling for Mike Nardone on that beautiful red and white YZ 490. He was so damn close to the top. For his age of 67, he can still definitely more than hold his own! That girl on the KX 85, with the regular swingarm wheelbase did damn good for her age, even though she didn't make it to the top. I would love to try this hill on a 2 stroke dirtbike! Nicole O'Donnell did Awesome. That girl is bad to the bone, and can outride many of the men. I know her Father is Proud! I hope the girl on the KX 450 did well, and made it over the top!
@@GatesRapes WOW looked like a CR500 engine to me. first guy. They were fast. Rode lots of bikes in my time. The fastest bike I ever rode was a Suzuki Gs1150. On the street. pulled 1st second 3rd power wheelie sitting over the bars. finally came down in 3rd. IDK how fast I was going must have been over 100. slowed down then turned around. came back to my buddy and said. Well that will be the last time I ride this one. It is just too fun I will kill myself. He said I didnt think you were going to open it up. I said if I ride it and dont open it up then whats the point.
I've been a downhill mountain biker my whole life, until I saw your channel 4 months ago, now I'm hooked on dirtbikes😂 everytime I go out I'm like ehhh I'm not pedaling today and I take the 125 out instead.
26:16 a sure sign of too much horsepower in the powerband. Just too hard to control that.....The one I really liked was the late model 4cyl that just RIPED up the mountain. OMG if you knew how hard that is to control.
👍 Watching your channel 👍 What happened old school 70s just taking your reg CR 250 RM 250 and just rip up the hill . Who needs all the extra swing arm 😜
M 1987 Ported for top end 1987 Honda CR500 (the BEST year, cartridge forks 44 mm Showas) regularly cracks 97-98 MPH with the front fender on, off it goes 105 all tucked in, flat track style. Fuck yeah the Honda CR 480/500's were some of the biggest horsepower years, along with some losers, like the 4 speed 450, the four speed 480, the ping king, etc. But by '87 they had it all together, "88 with the USD forks, is was back to the drawing board. Never beaks, change pistons and rigs out of guilt. 32.1 Yamahalube R. It will never wear out.
I thought this was a 450 shootout, why did green the fastest guy there have a fricken Suzuki gsxr 1000 motor on a 450 dirt bike frame when everybody else was running 400-500 CC's
Man what a fun event to be a part of .. I don’t care how much 4 strokes evolve they will never have the appeal of the 2 stroke .. just can’t beat the sound and rush of riding one ..
So all stretch frames are in the same class single cylinder or 4 cylinder! I know my 500 is bad but i still dont think it should be in the same class as a multy cylinder nitro bike! Even if its not on nitro! I stumbled up on this busy & couldnt lay it dwn! Where is this?
Ken, thank you very much for filming & posting this. I wanted to attend, but wasn't feeling well and couldn't ride up to Monson. You always do a great job behind the camera ❤ I felt like I was right there! PS, back in 1968 I tried the Monster on my 350 Ducati Scrambler. Unfortunately, I only made it about halfway up.
Those were some great bikes. That hill looked tame compared to those European hill climbs. Those guys across the pond are insane. Most never make it to the top.
I think part of the Harleys issue not making it was the choice of front tire watch how he crest the first hill and it just washes out needs an M5B front
The gnarliest hillclimb I ever went up was near Bethlehem Pennsylvania. Way steeper than this hill for sure 🤟 That Kawasaki was obnoxious man 🤣 One of the craziest engines I saw was an upside-down snowmobile engine stuffed in a dirt bike frame
i still have my 85' xr80r im never selling that thing. still runs like its brand new too. my favorite bike of this whole video was that air cooled cr500. what an amazing bike.
too bad nobody today knows the first thing about 2 strokes and why it is impossible for a four stroke naturally aspirated of the same displacement to make as much horsepower as a two stroke of the same displacement ..i happen to personally know the inventor of honda's two strokes and was his apprentice for eight years RIP "Pops" Yoshimura known all over the world as the greatest bike tuner of all times and the inventor of honda's Elsinore which i was apart of the development from the beginning up and till 1983 when i was told by a honda rep to keep my month shut about the major defect of every CX500 as none of them are success and will come apart
