Also YES the skin tones in the factory are so much better. I really wish Blythe and Pullip would have a larger variety of skin tones, it’s long overdue.
I already had many pro reasons for the fakes, but after learning that the stocks don’t have darker skin, that was it for me. Like that should be reason enough to support the fakes. IMO.
I have received my factory Blythes (yes, there are two) after wanting one ever since they were back on the market in early 2000s, but could never justify the price. My impressions so far - I am in love. Got tanned matte beauties, one with looong wavy dark blonde with ash blonde streaks hair and one with blonde bob. Beautifully made, eye mechanism works fine, my only ick is the factory standard pink eyes, that’s just bad. I’ll replace with something flattering. I am slowly getting them dressed and accessorised, earrings, shoes etc. Overall I didn’t even expect them to look so gorgeous in person. Thank you for your video, I was dying to know what differences between them would be.
Thank you so much for taking the time to watch! Srsly, what's the deal with those pink eye chips? I know maybe one person who doesn't mind them, while the rest of us are like: ❌🚫. So happy to hear you're loving your gals and having fun dressing and accessorizing them! 😊
I’ve recently gotten into Blythe, mainly with the intent to customise, and I have sooo many reasons for preferring the factory ones. The fact that I’m mainly wanting to customise is a big one through. I’m not too big a fan of the normal Blythe faces, they’re just really simple and a bit strange looking to me. I didn’t used to like Blythe at all, but seeing the custom potential it grew on me. Still iffy with the stock for that reason haha… The customisation is what drew me to Blythe and I really want to create one! Hopefully I will be able to soon.
Factory Blythes are so much fun and SO versatile in their custom potential! I'm hoping to start on my second-ever custom soon. I just don't have a vision for her yet 😆 Hope you enjoy embarking on your first custom. It takes a lot of patience, but the payoff is worth it 🩷
Custom Blythe collector here 😅! I feel like it all depends on what which individual person likes in their dolls. Some people really favour a good jointed body but some people really just put their dolls on a shelf and that’s that. Part of the reason I collect customs is that the stock & factory base just don’t do it for me. I love the resin eye chips that are really detailed & beautiful, so that’s a big one for me + the lips I just can never get on with 😂 I also love doll photography & I have a diorama and I want to get some lovely furniture pieces for it. 🫶🏻 All dolls are valid & I don’t really understand when people make it controversial 🤍
Customs are amazing!! And that's so cool you have a diorama. I have a very modest one due to space constraints. If it were up to me, I'd have an entire room of different dioramas (cottagecore, goth, Kawaii, Edwardian, etc 😆)
I think a lot of the controversy comes from people making comparisons to the BJD community and recasters. Which for that, it is absolutely an issue! But Blythe is not the same, it’s not a small artist who is losing profit due to cheaper fakes, it’s a big company and the OG creator has passed away as well. The fact that the stocks do not have diversity and the fakes do, is a bit of controversy as well in the opposing direction. Which I think is reason enough to support the fakes! People should have access to diversity.
I really love the poseability of the factory Blythe dolls. I have one that looks a little like your Float Away Dream, with minty hair, and I also really love the interchangeable hands that many factory dolls come with. The eye mechanism is a bit stiff though, and it squeaks! Great review! 💖
I wonder if anyone has ever tried using WD40 on the eye mechs? It seems it might could help that issue, but I’m not sure. Curious to know if anyone has tried
Factory Blythes were what finally got me into collecting, the accessibility re:budget was great and there was such a fantastic selection of options. However, as somebody who prefers the matte finish, the darker skinned dolls are lacking in that department. I super agree with the manageability of the hair, I find myself having to maintain their hair a lot more than my RH/SH dolls. Any sort of light jostling seems to mess them up.
If you want to customise it then you can sand it and that will get rid of the glossy finish. I’ve not seen anyone try this, but if you don’t want to fully customise it you can probably just spray some matte varnish that’s used for customising and it would matteify it without ruining the paint underneath
I don't have either type of Blythe but this was informative! Sounds like unique pros and cons all around. I'll probably still lean towards factory eventually because of budget but we'll see ✨
Please keep me updated on if you end up buying a Blythe and what you think! The factory dolls are wonderful--so many options to choose from 🩷 Thanks so much for stopping by, Allison!
Great comparison video! I'm very curious about the factory Blythes. So far the non articulated body is my biggest peeve about the stock Blythe because I LOVE posing my dolls 😅 but I can also see what you mean about them standing better.

I had my Urban Ellie on a factory body and switched back to her stock body bc of that big ol’ head making the body crumble. I have yet to try obitsu and hear they can be more sturdy. I loved this video, I want a full factory girl to play w, they are so unique in their own ways!
He saw my Floating Away Dream and wanted a stock Blythe for himself! He decided on Urban Fairy Ellie. I have a video on my channel that shows his collection 😊
Hello from the UK. I really enjoyed your video. I made a video similar to yours last year. I could really do with doing an updated video, as I am more experienced with my fakes now, and I have four real Neo sized now, and one on the way. I have a real Middie, and a real petite on the way. I really enjoyed how you compared each element of the dolls.
Even pulling at a 45-degree angle, the eye mechs are a lil sticky on some of my dolls, but it isn't a dealbreaker. I love both factories and stock! Thanks for stopping by 💜
