I picked up the qubit last weekend, totally blown away. Civi absolutely figured something out. It's soooo smooth and feels good. I ordered the CJRB Pyrite a few days ago, aluminum body, finger flipper. I'm so impressed by it. It was on sale too, 20% off on amazon and got it for $40.00. Totally blown away by it. Like you, I had many of the previous generation button locks - civi, kizer, etc... Missing the Malibu still but it's really hard to justify the price tag with out AMAZING the pyrite and quibit are. I'm so impressed by this generation of button locks. Good shit man.
I'm a big fan of the Civivi Altus actually. The ergos are fantastic for my hand, and the action is great. The button was a little bit sticky at first, but got smooth after using it for a while. Under-rated knife!
I’ve had great luck with the full ti pyrite and the ss ekko.( the ekkos button isn’t as smooth as the pyrite * on mine * but the front flipper is on point with the ekko.)
Great video I really hope they do the wornclife in the large version pyrite I have the drop point large pyrite all steel ones and i love It I wish more budget knives came out in steel handles
I had a benchmade sbk5000 in my front pocket one day at home depot. I was using one of their tube steel 9 step ladders, and within a few hours I had rubbed a massive groove into the grip scales. That developed into a problem with the spring assist because the grip pannel has a pocket machined in it for the assist spring. Since that day I have avoided knives with aluminum grips. Im sure its an awesome knife though if your not having that problem.
Looking at the texture you added helped me know what not to do. I will either buy a drill press and do dimples or use a belt sander to add texture. Maybe both. I thought about using an angle grinder but after seeing your results, I wont be doing that. Thankyou for the info.
I wanted to like the qubit, but murdered out isn't my style, and the other two options are bright red and bright blue. I've decided for the moment on the WMK pyrite-alt with frag pattern aluminum scales. should drop soon. I actually prefer 14c to rpm9, or nitro v, b/c of tougnness/non-chippiness. I want to not have to worry about using a blade for cutting stuff harder than cardboard, stupid stuff, and whether it would micro chip across the blade. So to me the perfect button lock would be the pyrite-alt w. frag aluminum scales, in 14c.
I've actually bought the qubit and love it! Its not at all a robust blade its more of a precision blade since it is really thin behind the edge and all the way up to the spine of the blade. I would be worry because of the thin blade to use it on harder stuff.
You're right that these companies have upped their game in the button lock area. Now they released a button lock QSP Penguin as well. Was very impressed with the Pyrite - beautifully balanced knife with the thumb studs. I also like the Vosteed Valkyrie. Nobody really talks about the comfort of the buttons though. I find the Civivi indented buttons get tiring after a while and I have to deploy the button with the side of my nail, not the meat of my thumb. Kizer and CJRB though, a lot more comfortable.
Personally I haven’t found any of the buttons to be uncomfortable, but I do have thick callouses on my hands. I saw that Penguin button lock! No knife is safe from the button lock craze! 🤠
The best feeling button in my experience has been on the Begleiter XL. The button is smooth and huge and just a pleasure to use. I find the button on the Cormorant to be somewhat uncomfortable after a day of fidgeting, due to the checkering on the button. Same with the Hic-Cup.
Pyrite 2 me. Better kitchen cutter. Better choil. Longer cut length. Better aesthetics. Better steel imo. Pyrite comes in pink G10. And I like that. Honestly, I think the Pyrite ergonomics mimic the PM2 which I like.
I own the pyrite wharny and the qubit and it’s a daily battle between which one I carry, ekko is next on my list and a drop point pyrite is on the way!
Just ordered a laser etched quibit for my dad for fathers day, so I'll have a chance to check it out and see how it compares to my conspirator. I don't think he is really a knife guy but we will see if maybe having something like this will change that. I don't have nearly as many buttonlocks as you but have been enjoying my conspirator as a user knife, although I seem to keep rolling the nitro-v. It gets nice and sharp, but maybe it's a little soft for my usage (cutting some softer plants in the garden). Going to be a good knife to practice my KME sharpening skills on. It likely won't be as snappy as the qubit, but have you tried the knife center exclusive conspirator? Same style black aluminum handles as the qubit, but blade is S35vn. I have one and the action is better than the regular version, detent is about the same though. However I like the mircarta handle and the titanium deep carry clip I ordered for $15 on etsy for my regular conspirator, so I'll probably just put most of the wear and tear on my original. Then again, they are both pretty cheap compared to my spydercos so they would both make great heavy use knives. I think I prefer well designed flipper tab to thumb studs in general, but the conspirator has that nice groove in it so it's nice and fidgety too. I agree the detent could be a bit stronger. Keep up the great reviews. Definatly looking for am edc use knife with a bottle opener. I don't typicaly carry keys anymore, and I do have a spiderco clippy tool standard, but a simple slicy blade with a bottle opener sounds perfect. I'll jave to wait and see if a special version comes out.
I have not tried the aluminum Conspirator. That’s interesting, I was curious if they were going to change anything to make the action better. Too bad about the detent though, I wish it was super snappy. I do love aluminum handles though, and the Conspirator is a great overall design. I hope your dad likes the Qubit! 🤠
@@doodysdaggers Got the quibit for my Dad, yep, it's snappy! I opened it to change the clip to the straight titanium one. However I was pleasently suprised that the stock clip felt so much better than my other civivis. I think it's going to stay as it offers great retention and does not feel flimsy and cheap like my other civivi knives. I actually like the stock deep carry clip on this model for once. I will be picking one of these up if they come out with some exclusives or special edditions. It's much lighter than the special eddition conspirator, I mean it's smaller sure, but I think allot of the weight reduction is because although the scales are very similar, the conspirator still uses steel liners. I wonder if the linerless knife is part of the changes impacting the action.
@@JFlywheel yeah totally! It’s great. I really like the new clip they’re using too. I used to complain about the old Civivi clips all the time. So much better!
I have 4 (including the quibit) civivi's and the drop point to pyrite and the elementum2 and mini praxis are my two favorites followed by the baby banter (it's tiny but once you have it you get it).. the quibit is my least favorite. I'm surprised you like it that much
I hear you on the Pyrite's opening action, but what about the closing action? I cant stand how the blade bounces back out a cpl times before closing properly. Vosteed IMO has the superior action because they nailed it all the way around, open and close. Not sure what they are doing different but the action is completely different. Just a shame some of them seem to have issues. I heard they've fixed it since and the newer releases don't have the issue. BTW, how did you cut the lines in your steel Pyrite scales. I think it looks pretty good fwiw.
It doesn’t bounce if you just let go of the button at the right time, same with all of these button locks. The closing action with all these is super nice and smooth. I used a dremel with a tiny cutoff wheel to cut the grooves. Not perfect at all, but from a distance it looks good. And it provides good grip, these stainless steel versions are awesome but a little slippery. 🤠
I own only a couple button locks, because of the inconsistency. The early CIVIVI’s we’re not good. Hopefully they have found the Pro Tech recipe. A Pyrite and Ekko arrived yesterday. We’ll give them a go-over.
Similar experience here... Sencut button lock sucked. Completely deterred me from the brand. My Quibt is good but not great. I like the Pyrite "lock feel" (is that a thing?) better. Better still, is the Kizer Original! Especially the larger "XL" version in micarta. Light, smooth action, perfect lock, and great blade. Kizer button locks are my favorite budget brand. The Original is almost perfect. My Assassin is still one of my favorites even though no one mentions it anymore. My Hiccup is good but not great. The plunge detent on mine is a little heavy, which makes the reverse flick a bit rough. Love my Kizers.
@@T_D_B_ I have tried an Original yet, I really need to. The few Kizer button locks I’ve tried, I didn’t like how far the button sticks out. Maybe the Original is different. I do like the design. The detent feel is similar to the Qubit? If it is I’m sure I’ll love it
@@doodysdaggers yes if you like larger knifes. I mostly only purchase larger knives in the budget side and mostly button locks as the fidget factor is good. One of my latest purchases is the Begleiter XL from Kizer. It’s green micarta and 154CM larger button lock. It’s a little bit on thick side but otherwise a great knife.
I had to modify my ekko about a day after I got it we had that weird rounded off tip so I filed the end down to match the Pyrite Warrencliffe . I knew I was going to have to take my time and not over heat the tip . but dang man That was the hardest Steel ever tried to work on
also i bought a cheap Mtech MT-1220 button lock knife with aluminum handles orange color for only 16 dollars lol and it works great for how cheap it is lol i got it so i dont have to use my new CRJB LAGO lol so yeah to poor to use a 53 dollar knife so ill just keep it for looks like the CJRB feldspar lol but i will use that knife at some point maybe lol and man i really wanted the PYRITE but i like to use a thumb flicker thing instead of a thumb stud
@@doodysdaggers,… the big one, not the small Elementum. I don’t like the edge retention (lack thereof) of Civivi’s 14c28n but the blade geometry of the hollow grind on that blade is greatness.
Can't wait to try CPM AR RPM9👍. Civivi 9cr17mov always performs really well in cut testing. And that lines up with my experiences with my 9cr Civivi Praxis. I love 9cr17mov as a budget steel, a powdered version of this sounds really intriguing. Powdered 9cr17mov yes please👍 thank you Artisan Cutlery!!!!
yes sir im new to the knife game and as soon as i seen a button lock i had to have one lol i almost bought a CJRB pyrite last night but i went with the CJRB LAGO instead because of the color of it lol i got the RED handle with black blade lol and i cant wait for it to come in and i also bought the CJRB FELDSPAR like 2 weeks ago and so far thats all the knifes i have lol but im sure ill buy more i would like to buy a CIVIVI soon so will see im so poor i still live with my mom at the age of 36 lol
The Civivi may be slightly snappier but in my personal experience and hearing yours as well, I think the Civivi just sounds cheaper compared to the CJRBs.
In 1981 Ford Motor Company invited 12 Chinese Auto engineer's to take a four-day tour of the Ford stamping plant. Not sure why Ford chose to do this, but upper management were definitely fully aware the 12 engineers were there to reverse engineer and learn new stamping techniques. I guess it doesn't really matter because America was 50% to 65% out of business by 1981 and now 99% out of business today😔. Help Make America Great Again is 40 years too late, it's all over people 🤷 no sense in crying over spilt milk. As a Gen X citizen I'm barely responsible for the collapse of the US economy. I know it sounds like I'm passing the buck, but my parents and grandparents were the generations that could have saved this country from chapter 11 not my generation 🤷.
My Malibu sucks, button lock stick (bad) and uneven grind...Im so unhappy with my Malibu, Im embarrassed to carry it...I dont even feel right gifting it out of my collection...My Pyrite is so much better all the way around...even my button lock Elementum....wish I had a better experience with the Malibu, waited so long to score one because they were always sold out..mine is blue aluminum handle, one of the first versions...
I have one, but it’s one of the first ones that had bad lock failure. I haven’t gotten around to getting a newer one yet, they supposedly fixed the issue
Front flippers make good can openers too. I love front flippers! I love Laconico, I love sheepfoot, so the choice won't be too difficult for me. I'd say the Ekko is barely medium size, the others are borderline minis if you have bigger hands like me (3.75 index finger)
the qubit is really really great. absolute featherweight and super thin bladestock. I generally prefer non-metallic handles though. The new sheeps-cliffe pyrite in blue gmascus from white mountain is pretty great too. As far as the detent goes, honestly... You're shilling a little too hard here. All these budget knives vary quite a lot between each sample. I've had a few different samples of several different models. It's just like liner/frame lock inconsistency... some will have good detents, some will have soft detents. My Qubit has a really outstanding detent and my pyrite has a very weak detent. I also have the conspirator, chevalier and several others. The same can be said for all of these knives... Order 5 of the same model and you'll find all the detents will be a little different on each one. None of these knives are doing anything special or different... You're just getting good or bad QC.
@@doodysdaggers bud, you're video kinda defines shill. It's fine... that's what youtube product reviewers are there for. Anyway, my point is just that individual unit variation makes some people say the pyrite has bad action or bad detent while others think it's the "best budget knife ever" the same goes for civivi or pick your budget brand. "act as an enthusiastic customer to entice or encourage others." "tries to convince other people to buy something or think something is great " You don't necessarily need to have an economic gain in order for that to apply.
yeah i really want the all black CIVIVI knife so bad it looks great and i herd CIVIVI is a good knife company so i will be getting one hopfully one day
