The griptillian is the best and most premium pocket knife for edc use ever. It is even issued in the military. The griptillian is durable and can take a beating, and sure they are expensive, but that's normal for the best quality knife
@@austinballard2 they need to do a better job of centering their blades and smooth out the axis lock when they are new. Their quality control isn't what it used to be. At the price they sell for, they should be as perfect as the Spydercos are. I own a few of each of those brands and the Spydercos are all (of the ones i own) better made and higher attention to detail.
@Alex Torres I guess they all have their uses. I would personally take a griptillian whether it's going on a stroll through town or camping or anything outdoors. The Griptillian is like a fixed blade that can fit in your pockets.
The mini Grip was my first knife over $35. Maybe the full size would have been better, but I actually love the size of the mini grip cuz I can carry it on campus. Carry it everyday!
I think it's only fair to point out that Benchmade makes a Griptilian with slab-style G10 scales, a deep-carry pocket clip, and a hollow ground, sheepsfoot style blade in 20cv steel with a spydie hole.
I’ve finally arrived at the point where I wanted to treat myself to a higher end knife for my edc. I’ve been debating these two knives for about a week. Finally went with the Para 3 (digi camo scales). Thank you for the vids as always. Keep up the good work and be safe 🤙
bpurfiel what type of knives did you have before? I just got a para3 light weight and I love it. I use to stick to small knives because they were comfortable in pocket and bc I have small hands. The dragon fly is a perfect size, but I’m really get use to the para3. Now deciding if I want to upgrade to brass scales
Nice. Im thinking i want a 940, and a para 2 or para 3. Dont know which ones to get first though. Maybe a para 3? I do a lot of food prep and the extra length and full flat grind is goodm
@@wake777 for food prep definitely get the pm2 over all of those. But for premium feel and a knife that will last a lifetime get the 940 Osborne. I had a pm2 in s35vn but ended up selling it. It was a great knife but I just like the 940 way more.
@@wake777 4 months ago you were gonna get a para 3 and now you have an inkosi? 😂 The knife hobby ain't cheap. I want to try a sebenza but just don't want to fork THAT much money for a knife lol. My limit is $200
Both knives are great. I owed the PM2 but now love the PM3 more than the BM Mini Grip. I've owned a lot of Benchmade knives; however I am shying away from them after a couple bad customer service experiences and their unwillingness to address a concern. Spyderco is always tight. My two cents.
I've also got both of them and love them, too. It sounds like you are describing the Manix 2 as the ideal knife... Axis lock (Ball bearing lock), M390 or S30V steel, drop point full flat grind, with G10 in bigger form with more curb in the handle...
Here's the deal , the new Griptilian with a s30v steel blade is $110.00 on Amazon and a Paramilitary 2 with an s30v blade is $151.00 on Amazon , but now you have to buy a deep carry clip because the stock clip on the Para 2 sucks ,so that's an additional $25.00 - $35.00 which now brings the Para 2's price to around $176.00 + compared to the Grip's $110.00 . It's up to you . Me personally , as a collector , I own 2 Paramilitary 2's and 3 Griptilian's. My Grip's came pretty much perfect out of box , but my Para 2's , I went through 5 of them before I found the 2 good ones I own now and Yes , I bought them new through reputable dealers , but maybe that was just my bad luck ....✌ 😷 Stay Safe ...
I really enjoy your knife reviews. Keep them coming. One suggestion: discuss country of origin. I know some people will shout "racist", but the country of origin matters. When I buy a knife I want to know what steel is used, what handle material, and the country of origin.
I prefer the Benchmade mini grip over the full size. I carry that quite often. It just feels less plastickey and more solid with those liners running through the whole length of the handle. As for the PM2, I absolutely love my PM2 in s110v steel and that blurple color is just awesome. I carry the Spyderco more often than I carry the Benchmade.
I am an admitted Spyderco fan so I'd pick the PM2 here for sure. I own the PM2 in Cruware and it is really nice. But my EDC is the Yojimbo. That is an amazing knife. Thanks.
Been watching your videos for a while and you have been a big influence on my EDC which slowly but surely its gonna keep evolving and a lot of those flagship knife are on my list but can't afford them right now and hopefully this doesn't turn into a non stop knife addiction or better said turn my self into a knife collector jahahahah great content bro keep it up
I have both the Grip and the Para 2. O dont like the Grip as much and almost all of them that I see have blades that are not centered. Benchmade has been a little lax with their quality control. My Para 2 was dead on, the other 2 Spydies I have are also dead nuts centered. Its a minor detail for some, but for me its a manufacturers sign of quality. Its also pretty lol. Spyderco for me all day.
2:30 It´s a PM2 in maclarenknives EDC stuff picture, no Para 3. I love my PM2 and Para 3. There are a lot of knives in my collection but these are my favorites. Not sure if I should buy a Para 3 Lightweight also. Check out the deep carry clips from MXGear. Especially the one for the Para 3 is perfect in my opinion.
I avoided Spyderco for ages, everything is inflated in the UK and even cheap models like the tenacious and resilience were going for £87 on Heinnie Haynes and similar prices everywhere else, I think you can all agree that £87 is an absurd price for an 8cr13 liner lock. They have them on Amazon UK now tho for their normal price and I got them about 4 months ago and love them, the resilience hasn’t left my pocket and I’m going to be getting the para 2 in s45 very soon. I’ve fallen down the Spyderco rabbit hole and I can’t get out.
Nice video editing. Brings so much class to the video and knife world. Ps spyderco above Benchmade all day evary day. Benchmades weak point is the omega spring
To be fair, realistic use of knives may require less than 50 deployments a day. But with people fidgeting, it could get up to the hundreds. If you intended to fidget, perhaps pre-purchase an omega spring for when it breaks.
PM2 in Maxamet is the only reasonably-priced knife that can hold a candle to something like Rockstead Higo2. And that makes it good enough... (cannot say the same re. any Benchmade)
Yeah man--got both and love both (every knife guy or gal should have a Para 2 and a Grip in their collection) thanks for this vid on two of the most iconic knives on the planet Mr Sei...
For me...Spyderco PM2--CONS--the blade. Don't like the recassa/nub. Gettng a serrated edged version would be my way around that. Will buy a Para 3 and maybe a Dragon fly 2..both serrated. Benchmande blades are done right Like the 940 (base and the -1 CF/S90V) and the Griptilian (G10/S30V or CF/S90V)....maybe the Bugout -3 (CF/S90V) or -4 (Alu/K390)...wish they had more than the one colour choice for the scales.
Cant talk about benchmade as a European, these guys aren’t able to support a larger audience. I ordered a few benchmade blades now but never got one.... spyderco no problem, I have a few but benchmade Is a joke. I just wanted to test the rubber grips at the Griptilian but who am I if they can’t send shit to Europe or work with good traders together idc at the end and buy another para 2 for customization.
I have 2 DLT trading exclusive griptilians. One strictly for collection and one I carry at times. They transformed the griptilian into what it should be. Thick carbon fiber scales, M390 blade and brass colored barrel spacers. Don’t get me wrong, the griptilian is a great knife in any configuration.
Talon I really would suggest the Manix 2 all blacked out. Coming in just at 150 on BLADE HQ. If you haven't ever checked it out. It's almost a perfect mix between the 2. Awesome video and thanks.
I wouldn't consider the griptillian benchmades flag ship I would have said the 940 but maybe my idea of flagship is different. Good video I have had both these knives in my rotation if I had to choose between them I'd probably go PM 2 because of ergos for me.
People get bugouts and then swap the scales for something "more sturdy" are defeating the purpose of the bugout lol, benchmade makes a ton of knives similar to the bugout but with full liners and more sturdy scales so just buy one of those lol
benchmade's painted pocket clip that chips and looks ratty very fast is one thing they need to fix. they need to use a finish that looks good as it wears.
No they don't-thy produce SOME of the best out there,i e WE Knives,ZT,and Hogue, are all equal,if not superoir in fit and finish, and all three use higher quality materials
Zero tolerance beats both easily. Way better materials, steels for blades, etc. Not some flimsy plastic BS like benchmade or unnecessarily large in your pocket like spyderco cause they think the spyder hole is still cool. Tie in benchmades known quality issues and spydercos $300+ price tags for the same steels ZTs use and it’s a no brainer. ZT is the king in this circle. I no longer have spyderco or benchmade now. Just ZT and USA kershaws with m390 or 20cv. They simply can’t be beat on price, performance, quality, materials, etc.
I dont fidget often, but the omega spring broke after less than a year. The waiting for the spring, the frustration of assembling process, I decided it's easier to just use a Spyderco.
Had a fullsize spyderhole grippy and loved the ergos but hated the cheap plastic handles. G10 slabs make the grippy a WAAYYYYY more impressive knife. its expensive though... Just picked up a lefty PM2, here’s to hoping I won’t need to do anything to it!
I have both in upgraded versions and the PM2 is the clear winner, IMO. Materials aside, I trust the compression lock to withstand more abuse and last longer than the Axis lock with Benchmade's omega spring. Jimping is significantly better and more precisely machined on the PM2, reversible tip up/tip down pocket clip, full flat ground blade for better slicing and EDC tasks, thinner in the pocket, forward finger choil for detailed work, etc. That all being said, if the Manix 2 was in the mix, thatd be a tougher call. I personally think Spyderco's ball bearing lock is stronger than Benchmade's Axis lock. The Manix 2 is arguably the most ergonomic folder design on the market. Slight edge to the PM2 on weight and overall dimensions in the pocket, but it's damn close.
I've got the 154CM Mini Grip and S30V Mini Ritter Grip, both with custom scales from "Igorded". Google him if you're interested. I've also got the PM2 and a Para3. The regular Mini Grip is my most used out of that bunch, along with several others that I EDC more. My favorite Benchmade is the 707 Sequel though. Too bad they discontinued it. At last count I had about 110 folders and fixed blades, about 20-25 of which are Spydies.
Very nice comparison (and collection) sir! While I love the Spyderco Persistence, I also find the HARNDS Maverick (D2) a very solid, robust EDC. Also interested in the Hogue Exemplar. Any thoughts on that one? I've heard that the Hogue "ABLE" lock is a variation on the Benchmade "AXIS" lock, but have no experience with either. Thanks again!
in 2020 after the spyderco 50$ price increase i reccomend the griptilian to non knife people, the price increase for. i difference in quality or materials is dumb
I bought a griptilian s30v and have never went back to any of my Spyderco knives the grip just feels better in my hand. I love the thicker blade to for wrong tool for the job situation.
