They're two of the finest spring-powered air rifles ever made - but which is the best, the Air Arms TX200 or the Weihrauch HW97? James Head of Crackshot, the Devon and online airgun centre, is in no doubt: there are pros and cons for both and, in the end, it comes down to personal choice. In this video he explains which one he'd choose and why.

Both great springers, but the HW has better acces to the loading port (from both sides) and i don't like the bear trap release knob on the TX you have to push in every time. The HW has a great finish, the TX has a superb finish. I went for the 97 because i prefer the practical use above the finish. Both have PCP accuracy. Cheers!

97 for me AA just a pain to use 97 definitely has the better trigger easy to load better safety and 97 you can tune to be better than AA tx with a tune although AA boys say you don’t need to tune tx but they talk rubbish imo
@6lr6ak6
@6lr6ak6 Год назад
You are right, 97s with a tune are better than a TX, can't stand the bear trap on TX and loading port, I've had about 5 of each, my 97 is so accurate using Baracuda match and Superdomes it's 177.

In theory the TX should be marginally better after all they stole the design off the HW77 but the trigger on the HW is far better and aids it's accuracy. N the end it's down to personal preference as both are excellent guns.

Agree! Same with the Diana 48/52 they have also that bear trap release knob. I have no problems with a bear trap for safety but it,s easy to make a automatic release while closing the cocking arm.
@6lr6ak6
@6lr6ak6 Год назад
I've had a few TXs over the years, best thing is to tap the pin out put a small piece of tie wrap in about 5mm square, stops the bear trap, just keep hold of lever when loading, also 97s take out bear trap, don't need um just keep hand on lever when inserting pellet into the breech, should always hold lever or barrel when loading it's a good habit to get into.
@rapalaron6348
@rapalaron6348 Год назад
@@6lr6ak6 97's have no bear trap system mate! 🤒 They have an other type of safety system. You can't de/un-cock the 97 by holding the lever and pull the trigger. You have to shoot a pellet. You're right, always hold the lever or barrel when loading, but it is just that unexpected moment that you not hold the cocking lever firm enough and you crush your finger in the breach or a barrel hits into your face.

@@6lr6ak6 Correct, you can remove the plate but i see no reason to do that. There is no push button on a 97 you have to press first to fold back the cocking lever and that's what we just where talking about. Yeah, the blue finish on the AA is superb. I have both and to be honest they are both superb accuracy wise. Handling is very similar as well. I'd choose the 97 on price alone but being a true Brit I'd buy the 200. (Fence sitting I know!). In practical terms I more often than not opt for my Prosport for hunting as it's better balanced for unrested shots than either of them. Nice video!

Tx200 is far easier to service and far better out of the box then the HW 97 which is usually twangy. At least you don’t need a hammer and a vice for the Hw97k. But once tuned it’s equal to the TX.

Each is as accurate as the other but the TX is half as expensive again (and the Ultimate Sporters are twice the price of a 97). If you buy a HW97 instead of a TX you have saved nearly enough cash to put a decent scope on it, certainly enough cash to get a pro tune for it. I've shot both a lot over the years and neither is a better gun in terms of putting lead where you want it. I have a 97, love it to bits.

Sorry to correct you James, but you state the HW97 has a silencer fitted 0:23 which is incorrect. The end section is a muzzle weight to keep the balance of the rifle neutral with the shorter carbine barrel. You can however purchase a dedicated Weihrauch screw on silencer made for the HW97K which make the barrel a little long and cumbersome, but eliminates a lot of DOWNRANGE crack. The rifle will still twang like a broken banjo at the shooters end 😂. Also, the .177’s are a fair bit noisier, feel cruder to shoot and are fiddly to load, but shoot much flatter and are arguably a better option. All the best 👍🏻

In my last comments I said that I really do like the TX200 HC and hopefully I’ll get one when I can get at my pension and I probably will but… I’ve treated myself and it was a toss up between the TX and another rifle I’ve longed for for many years and that is the Pro sport. So I’ve gone and treated myself to the pro sport in 177 with walnut stock and my god it’s amazing the stock is so attractive with the grain that runs through it and the blueing is on another level compared to my other rifles. I’m a lefty so it cost me more but definitely worth it. And the accuracy of it is outstanding at 35 yards which is my usual zero range it’s putting pellet on pellet sat resting and that’s pcp territory for accuracy. The firing cycle is the smoothest I’ve ever shot in springers and the trigger is also on another level. I’ve shot Weihrauch’s all my life and their rekord triggers are really good but I believe the pro sports is better. So next year I’m hoping to get the TX as this is another rifle I’d like to have within my collection if the world and cost of living etc gets back to somewhat normal and things calm down as it’s been a struggle for many and I’m pretty sure it’s affected our great gun shops too.

I'm lucky enough to own both. Very little to choose between them as far as accuracy goes. It greatly depends on the optics. At present the 97 KT sports a Helix Element. I'm playing with a Sytong HT60 on the TX. So out past 40 yards the 97 combo groups much tighter than the TX. The Sytong on the TX looks superb, so I may be waving goodbye to the Hawk that was on it.

I’ve shot both. Every tx200 I’ve tried the owners have messed with the trigger that it’s so light it wobbles from side to side very odd definitely not my cup of tea. As for the 97kt no left hand premium on the stock and very accurate I’ve shot 12mm groups with ease at 50yrds and the pro tuned versions (not a drop in kit) I’ve shot will do pellet on pellet at that distance with practice and calm weather conditions.

Out of these two I would have to go for the TX200. The reason being is that they shoot so well, right from new. The HW's need some tuning to get the best from them. Saying that the TX200 isn't perfect. It's loading port is not that large and combined with a long scope, loading can get awkward. This gets worse in winter, especially with cold fingers.

I'd argue the mk3 TX200 need more work than a 97, certainly more than the original 97 with the longer barrel & 25mm piston. The mk3 TX200 which are by far the most common have a longer stroke than the previous marks & to tune it with short stroke extension is more work than needed to polish up a 97.

I've got both and there is no comparison! Always impressed with what the 97 can do, whereas the Lightning has been a let down on all fronts. Build quality is good but accuracy is average. In fact I have a Remington Pest Controller .22, for wet weather hunting, that will out-shoot the Lightning and only paid £80 for it second hand. Can't really compare a BSA barrel to a Weirauch one despite how we Brits love to big it up. 👍

I have the LGU Master Pro in .177. The only thing the LGU lacks over these two is the trigger. But I bought my LGU for £300 new in 2014, it's half the price but certainly not half the rifle. And you can live with the trigger. I guess Walther/Umarex didn't make much of a profit on them hence the other cheaper production LGU with a plastic trigger and then stopping production entirely. The cheap TX200 alternatives now are either a Diana 430L at £249, SMK XS41 £200 or Remington Warhawk for £210.

I sold my LGU and it was a relief 😆 It's very accurate, but annoying in the same time especially because of ergonomics and muskeet like feeling. And HW97k fit perfectly to my body frame I don't even need a palmrest for stander. Perfect balance and weight distribution and excellent ergonomics for me. I own also top PCP's ( including Walther LG400 Anatomic), but like my mate say I'm weirdo, because LG400 is mostly in the box and I prefer to shot my HW97k. Now I want to get tx 200 HC in Ultimate Springer stock. My HW97k has advanced tuning in RAT Works and the did excellent job. I want tx 200 to be on the same level at least.
