I’m organising a beginner tournament this Saturday, and these new core rules adjustments and points seem helpful! We will use Contest of generals instead of GHB, to make it more accessible! 😊
I think the thing with Cities of Sigmar going “backwards in technology” is a result of the British designers’ understanding of history. The WHFB Empire is very Early Modern influenced, which means you’re getting lots of rifles, somewhat refined pistols, and really fancy fluted armor when you’re getting if at all. But all the new CoS stuff coming out is taking tons of inspiration from the Era of Discovery, as well as literally having the AoS lore surrounding the army being the end of an era and the beginning of a new one, which I think is where the “let’s go breach the walls of Constantinople” look from the new Fusiliers comes from. So I’s guess they tech isn’t really going back at all in setting, but all the people working on this either didn’t notice the weird historically grounded implications, or just chose to not care because they didn’t want to boost the tech level too much and didn’t have anywhere else to go but down.
Great ep as always, and great to see a female guest! Also really liking the Cities stuff - there's something about the paint job that really makes them feel gritty and grounded (despite the arguable silliness of some of the concepts) and I'd love to paint some of the foot troops as a Mordheim team (you should totally do a 'how to get started in Mordheim ep!')
Great video and lovely to see little morathi on the channel. I had the pleasure of playing her at world! I just want to say I find it weird that everybody is talking new ghb & points and everybody is skipping new FEC warscrolls. They are in the book not the app and when we reach out to GW we get the silent treatment. Who can get to the bottom of this nonsense?
"How are we going backwards in technology" Realistically, probably just manufacturing costs and capability, which is how many "old" designs of weapons are still used in the real world
Really sad for Skyfires, they already low damage, basically just enough (if in a unit of 6) for their clearly niche role of killing foot heroes, but with the new lookout sir rule (which is a good change) they need to put themselves in a dangerous position to do it. 380 points that you need to basically sacrifice to kill an average 100 points hero is not a good trade. so surprised they didnt get a big points reduction
To add my thoughts on the two armies I play: * Lumineth is nice to see a sea of green, but very little of these points changes merge into a cohesive list. You're not running a list that uses Sevireth, Spirit of the Mountain and Wonder Twins but it's good that we're being forced to look elsewhere. I do think the big winners are Wonder Twins and Bladelords but we need another Battlescroll to reduce some other units (Stoneguard, Wardens) while GW figure out what they actually want to do with this book. I will say the one positive is Spiterider Lancers and Stormcast Desolators are REAL ally options for us now and Desolators in particular offer something that we don't have (heavy cavalry) * Ogors - I'm a Gutbuster player and I could not be happier! My list dropped 80pts almost overnight and it allows a lot more room, especially if you're running Kragnos. I'd still want Gluttons and Ironguts to either go down another 20pts each or both get a +1 to their save but it's positive. BCR is rough, but I think you pivot to a double FLoSH list with 3 SHBR and keep 90pts as a Triumph bid Seraphon Starborne needs to get into the sea and I am so happy about that.
I feel like the obvious miss about cogs was not mentioning that it powers both seraphon and tzeentch summoning as well as giving protection to kroak and chickens.
A really good Battlescroll. The actual new rule of Look Out Sir feels a bit clunky, but I like the general idea and direction behind it. Other changes are all good. Most points changes are pretty good as well. Though Blissbarbs only going up 10 and Zombies only going up 5 makes me downright angry. Also, there are a bunch of units that would have really wanted a bit more of a drop.
Appreciate Tyler's call out on the lack of curation re: Nighthaunt. Playing a few games of the new season with my ghosts, however, loss of Galletian Veterans will not be fixed by Revenants/Harridans going down even 20-30 points IMO. If Nagash becomes the way forward to provide utility, it isn't really a NH list; shows the reason why inconsistent ranges create 25mm winners and everyone else as losers. We changed Look Out Sir!, c'mon GW let's add a new core battalion!
Im scratching my head with a lot of my armies at the moment. LRL, I really don't know how I approach them now this season, I was enjoying Ymetrica in the last season, but some of those battle tactics in the new GHB require far too much table movement and Teclis is looking like a points liability right now when you can only likely do 2 casts per turn. My Nighthaunt, All there good characters are unique wizards and honestly I think I would've wanted to play into the anti magic tech, but how do you make a list without Reiknor or Olyinder? and then the only locusts they have is the Guardian of souls :S I also have a Soulblight and Stormcast army, but honestly I think I need to buy into some new models to change my lists up. On the points changes, Its embarrassing for the poor Vanari Bannerblade, even at 80pts, what a waste. And OH BOY, the twins are almost cheap enough to take, 3 more battlescroll point adjustments to go! XD
Oh man Gobspark is wild this season. I played him against Seraphon and the Seraphon player opted to not cast spells because Gobspark can just kill his Slan with primal dice unbinding :)
I don't like the kruleboyz point changes. Buff a bunch of KB stuff they never take, because they've got awful scrolls, and vulchas so most lists only save 20 points, instead of stuff they use. Its like the third round of kb buffs thats horrendously out of touch with what the army actually does. I don't care how cheap a gnashtoof is it will never be better than battle reg.
Very disapointed at no reduction for Fiends of Slaanesh. Love the models, often take them but they're not good. 200 points is way too high for what they do. Absoluetly mystified at Chaos Warriors going to 200 points for 10 while my Painbringers are now at 150 points for 5. I'd say Warriors are slightly better than Painbringers (same stats but mark ability and 5+ vs mortals beats conditional +1 to save imo) , so I'm not sure why Painbringers cost 50% more than they do. It seems like points were calculated based on Slaanesh units always having maximum depravity buffs. By the time you get max buffs (if you ever do) the Painbringers will probably be dead or diminished (since their job is to hold the line).
180 pts now for Seraphon saurius warriors is insane, easily one of the best line in the game. 3+ save, 2pv, they take buffs so well. 160 pts ardboyz is a joke if you compare them.
I'm not fond of the new look out sir rule. I agree with heywoah on this. I'd much rather a core battalion that gives this or a bodyguard save, since then you need to make tough decisions. Sometimes those units need to be killable, like slanns.
Have you seen the Battlepack: Contest of Warlords from the last White Dwarf? This seems like a good "starting with AoS" Battlepack, which you asked about in the previous episodes to me.
@@VinceVenturella It's not even technically IN the White Dwarf. But it is a piece of cardboard between the articles. In the White Dwarf they don't mention it, as far as I can see.
LRL Sentinels are extremely meh.. Especially with 12" look out sir. On top of that for them to really shine you need 2 spells to go off to make it rain heavy mortals. Even then, good luck clearing hordes.
The new warclans battle tactics are really poorly implemented. 2VP will only shift close games, and neither KB or IJ have playstyles that make for close games. They're also both easier to achieve in BW, since you're running the slower IJ units that push into the middle, and all of 1 KB units is 1. BW also plays the kind of slower game that leads to closer matchups.
The blood rack viper is awful to play against. I’ve lost many a blood knight to that endless spell and then it stomps you later on in the turn! I hates it. It makes me so angry!🤬
+1 for Little Morathi +1 for new Cities of Sigmar Genoese Hand Canonneers 2 units of those with the Ogor Major will look nice (Cavaliers on the flanks) High Level Take: Battle scroll changes more impactful than GHB (Don't like most of the Endless spell changes)
I'm not sure if I'm the only one who this is affecting but the last few videos Vince has been so low on volume compared to the rest of the hosts. So low in fact I need to turn up my volume pretty high just to be able to hear what he's saying but then the other hosts are blaring.
@@VinceVenturella no, you are not wrong. But it is a start. I agree with your assessment that the books need a whole cloth rewrite. I was just thinking they need to be chaos' melee glass cannons.
