Hell yea Ryno! I was 9 years old then. You and Doug Henry were my Dad's favorites! Thank you for the trip down memory lane. You were flying with fro and showtime
Now that was a race, I miss those days of Supercross. Watching these guys back then is what got me interested in riding dirt bike's when I was 8yrs old. Parents got me a 96 KTM 50cc, the one with the Purple seat...LOL
Remember the first time seeing Ryan was when I was on a way to a race in the 2000s and we were watching a "bar to bar" DVD where Ryan and ricky battled throughout the season. Got me so pumped for the races. Sick to see Ryan is still a powerhouse in the sport sharing his knowledge and still ripping on a bike! So deadly!
Man I didn't realize how famous and awesome u really were after seeing this classic battle....I really love your style w your teaching skills and your priceless knowledge being shared w the world to make us all better riders if we have the dedication and desire to be the best or at least always be at your best physically and more importantly, mentally ... Just watching a few of your youtube tip vids has alREADY HAD A PARADIGM SHIFT ON MY WHOLE MOTORCYCLE PERSPECTIVE FROM THE LIL' THINGS YOU DO. To balance your weight in the right place at the right time to attain that utter fluidity and hydraulic like smoothness and efficiency that you have sculpted over the years...AND HOW SENSITIVE TINY CHANGES ARE TO THE BIKE AND IF THATS THE CASE THEN ALL IT TAKES FOE THE RIDER TO HAVE WRONG POSITIONING JUST A FEW POUNDS TO FAR FORWARD OR BACKWARD CAN BE THE DIFFRENCE BETWEEN GETTING THE WHOLE SHOT OR EATING ROCKS!!!!.OR DOING IT PERFECT TO GETTING EJECTED FROM BIKE AND GETTING INJURED......THE DEVIL IS IN THE DETAILS..!!!SO I can't ride the motorcycle to it's full potential iF I cannot push MYself to my full potential...we are only as good as our weakest link .BIKE AND MACHINE NEED TO BE MELDED AS ONE ENTITY IN PERFECT HARMONY W THE LAWS OF PHYSICS..!!!!..and how u put it....your affected from any point you retain that stiffness WHICH LEADS TO anxiety induced death grip that wears you out quick and metaphorically speaking it's very applicable to the technique of dispersing and dissipating all your joints evenly so they all share a equal work load instead of the point at which you are stiff and locked in..that's where the energy dissipates into .........that concept is really paying off.......HIPS BEFORE KNEES...LOOSE ARMS ....ON BALLS OF YOUR, FEET....KEEEP MAIN TORSO CENTERED. HEAD UP LOOKING AHEAD NOT DOWN.....KEEPING HEAD IN TURNING MOTION THRU TURNS TO TURN SHARPER....CONTROL.BIKE FROM LOWEST POINT FOR MAXIMUM EFFECT.....THE BIKE AND BODY BOTH HAVE POINTS OF SEPERATION THAT ONE MUST KNOW AND UNDERSTAND to be able to differentiate between them but ultimately have them running in harmony and congruent with one another ...creating that flow and fluidity that you perform every time you ride..........ARMS UP ELBOWS OUT FOR BETTER CONTROL.........INITIATION....NOT REACTION.......ALWAYS LOOK AHEAD TO LET BRAIN PROCESS THE UPCOMING TERRAIN AND OBSTACLES AND EVENTUALLY THE MUSCLE MEMORY EFFECT WILL STRENGHTHEN AND BECOME HARDWIRED INTO YOUR HEAD TO THE POINT WHERE U CONSCIOUSLLY DONT HAVE TO THINK WHAT TO DO...YOUR INTUITION AND EXPERIENCE AND SURVIVAL MECHANISM ALL WORK TOGETHER TO NEGOTIATE THE TERRAIN W BEST SAFETY AND EFFICIENCY TO PRESERVE YOUR LIFE AND ENSURE YOUR OWN SURVIVAL......so I def understand how to stay in front of bike and let it come to me rather than gassing it and getting pushed back in reaction to wrong position and I can never get in front of it and always feels like it's pulling away from ME............ I WAS DOING JUST THAT UNTIL I WATCHED YOUR VIDEO AND REALIZED WHAT I WAS DOING WRONG W BEING FLAT FOOTED AND HIPS ROTATED INCORRECTLY..... MAN WE ARE SPOILED I MEAN THE YOUNGER GENERATION GETS ALL THIS FREE INFO FOR THEM TO CONSUME AND ABSORB AND IT'S TRULY A BLESSING ALOT OF US TAKE FOR GRANTED OR AT LEAST I KNOW I DO...AT TIMES.!!!!!! KEEP ON THE POSITIVE ENERGY AND ITS NICE TO LEARN FROM THE BEST PEOPLE LIKE YOU IN THE SPORT SO THAT TRANSLATES INTO LEARNING THE SKILLS OF A PRO THEN YOU CAN ONLY WORK AND STRIVE TOWARDS WHAT YOU TEACH AND APPLY IT IN THE REAL WORLD ENVIRONMENT AND HAVE POTENTIALLY PHENOMENOL RESULTS BY JUST LISTENING AND ABSORBING ALL WHAT YOU SAY AND IT'S SURELY PAYING OFF SO FAR.... ( Below when I mention the word, "you" , it's intended to describe the masses and a generalized consensus of behavior and not literally ,"you", Ryan hughes, as you are not a fake or a charlatan and genuinely want to help us boys become better men while riding our motorcycles ) But as u would prolly say.....u can't achieve any of this until you treat your body as good as your new bike...u put the best high octane fuel...10 dollar a quart top shelf oil...brand new tires...shiny jewelry and blinged trimming..... Forged pistons.... billet components....1000s on motor exhaust mods...porting... polishing....boring ...balancing......yet you won't eat right...rest right...recover right... Think they know it all and don't need training...lessons....info....too much ego......emotion....not enough intellect....forthought....open mindedness and humbleness... And more importantly life experience that makes us better men and father's and to let childish preoccupations and behaviour stay w the children themselves.......but neways ...GOTTA HAVE YOUR HEALTH AND range of motion as strong and youthful as can be or else u just can't be the best you can be and for me...that's not even a thought I entertain as I only focus on the now and let the doubt and hesitation Preoccupy the other guy as I focus only on the things I can affect and control right now and wherever in time or space I am located, in the epicenter of the moment is the only thing to ponder ....all other moments occuring elsewhere may as well not even exist to you ...so why get all consumed by fears and thoughts that have no bearing on your current state of affairs and if a cycle of negativity becomes a bad habit that takes away from your core being....then it's time to make a conscious change and try something that does work and be willing to sacrifice oneself to ascertain a coveted well known result from someone reputable that has real world results and gains....neways I'll be WATCHING AND WAITONG MORE PRICELESS CONTENT YET TO COME....... A loyal fan....jesse
I know of 2 great sayings I would like to share with everybody. 1) "The day you think you know it all, is the day you have a lot to learn." (a older/wiser co-worker once told me, for some reason, lol) 2) "We are all born into the USA of today, not ever knowing how great she was yesterday.". (I made that one up, and say it goes back at least 5 generations.). When I see mouthy comments to Ryno, on some level, both of those sayings apply to those individuals. They should me jacking up AJ Cantanzaro. They think he is great. Messed up huh? That is the future. :(
I remember watching this at such a young age I couldn’t keep up with tv and race schedules so it was always such a thrill just running across this flipping through channels, then after about thirty minutes of watching I would get so amped up I had to go outside and re enact everything on my bmx
I remember Ryno even way before '96 and he always had a good reputation as a strong rider. Anyone who knew the sport knew of him because he was always in the top half of the field, not the bottom half.
Looked like you were catching them in the whoops. Skimming instead of jumping. It's interesting to me how guys use the 2 different techniques. Great race!
On the Whiskey throttle show, RC said, "I raced scared, terrified I would lose. No sport psychologist would recommend that, (which should make you doubt their knowledge), but that is the way I was." As a short, fat ginger kid in school, I bet he got picked on, and that motivated him in MX, (just a guess). I think that is like Hannah having a really big mouth before a race and meaning it. Hannah told Dave Arnold, (Bob's mechanic at the time), he did it on purpose. I bet he was scared to lose after he did that. I was scared to crash like RC was scared to lose. It makes sense to me.
I was in the crowd that night hating on Hughes, Emig and McGrath and supremely disappointed for Bradshaw and team Yamaha. It seamed like Bradshaw was set to take the championship. That was until McGrath went from 125cc-250cc in 1993 and swept the whole thing. McGrath really took the wind out of Bradshaws sails for the next 3 or 4 years. But man this was a fun battle to watch. Everyone was on their feet.
Gidday Ryan, Man this sport would have to the most physical sport in strength and arobic capacity!!! I always find that when I'm barrelling down my favorite single track, that i have times when I am at one with the trail and bike and then fatigue sets in and my mind wonders and I am all over the track!! Tell me as a top end mx rider, once you know you are fit enough, how much can the mind over-rule the body????? You have to put the work into your physical tune- but how can you train the mind??? is it all about confidence in your body to let the brain guide you????
It was the golden era of supercross. I wonder how much money earned top riders like McGrath, Huges, Larocco etc compared to todays riders like Roczen, Webb, Tomac etc...
The golden era of MX and SX was from 68, (MX starting in the USA), and 72, (SX invented in the USA), to 1986, (the first big intervention into the free market of dirt bikes,--the production rule). The greatness hung on there for a while, like Dungey and Villapoto trying to keep the bar as high as RC raised it,---but the sport started declining in 1986,--and the real golden era was over.
I wish 2 strokes would make a come back and kick 4 strokes to the curb. I'm old school and just ain't having the 4 stroke thing. Seen too many tracks locally closed due to 4 stroke noise.
You got that right.. I live in the country side and you can hear 4strokes from much further away.. The thumpers noise travels further like the bass from music does..
Ryan can you remember what McGrath had over you during the race? You had great speed and battle speed but you seem to let him go before you crashed in the sand 😕
Yep folks! That is a handsome man under that fur. I dig ya Ryan man, but you are too damn intelligent and good looking to be the hippy of MX. :) Can we get the good minds left in the sport to get together, form a national series, (to start, and allowing 2-strokes of equal displacement), and deport the FIM/AMA? It is time they had some real competition,----and we have the 2-strokes for an advantage this time. :)
