What happened at the end: Hatty got thrown into the water and died. His good soul possessed the hat. His soul was so good it made the hat good again. Creating a laser that destroyed everything evil. You can even hear the spirits yelling now as they are taken over by Hatty's happiness. The boat got out of the way. The plane was destroyed because it was coming from the same way the boat was. Possibly someone found the island right after they left and took the cats. There is the invaders, and the big space bear. Now who is this space bear you might ask? He is going to cause the end of the world. Remember the all good things must come to an end, and shows a meteor heading towards the earth. But when the earth doesn't blow up it says plot twist. Which means the original plan was for it to blow up. But why was he in the hall of dudes? No one knows, some theorize he is the creator. But no one knows...

The ending explained: The pent up rage of the former hat wearers were finally freed from the Battle Block Theater and escaped to Heaven releasing their violent rage, apparently striking the Bear god of space. Hatty died because all that pent up rage was forced into him, having him go crazy, but also passive, wiping out his sense. This is all speculation, but it can't be disputed so I win. HA!
I'm replying to a 7 year old comment to dispute Hatty being dead. Near the end of Pit People, it's seen that Hatty somehow didn't die from being at the bottom of the ocean or shooting a giant death star laser from his cranium, as he looks around when the Space Bear God's date? Grabs him and blamed him for bringing everyone's trigonometry homework to life and thirsty for revenge.
after the laser hits the space bear Hatty becomes the benevolent destructive god of pit people when his soul and the power of the hat mix with the blood of the giant space bear.
So this is a bit of a mixture of a few theories into mine. Basically the rage from the previous owners of the hat didn't exactly kill Hatty, however the rage of them all was forced into him, and basically destroyed his senses and ability to do or think anything. However then, as you saw, the hat was glowing RED. Throughout the game he just sits there with the power of the previous owners almost flowing through him, so he has lost all of his abilities. That's why he seems dead at the end, and the fellow friends toss him into the ocean. However, when Hatty reaches the bottom of the ocean, the hat glows green, extremely rapidly, and then shoots a laser like thing from the hat, and the hat is GREEN. And that beam is supposed to be Hatty's body releasing the trapped souls of the previous owners from the Hat. And in the process of doing this, Hatty accidentally kills the Male Cosmic Bear. And due to this, in Pit People, the female grows bitter and seeks revenge on earth, the body of the male causing loads of chaos on the planet, and at the end of the game the female cosmic bear, explaining her reasoning for trying to take revenge on earth, pulls Hatty out of the water and starts using the green beam from the hat to destroy everything, from people, to planets, to the entire universe, and you actually see Hatty grip the fingers of the Female Cosmic Bear and look around frantically in guilt and confusion, but eventually, I assume, the Female Cosmic Bear realizes that it was an accident, and that she was seeking revenge on earth for something that only Hatty did, on accident. And of course that the Male isnt coming back because he was killed. She realizes this while carrying Horatio and his son and basically just puts them down on a floating rock thags still left in space, starts crying, and finally just leaves. The pit people game explains that the start kf the chaos from the bear was because Hatty killed her lover and she was experiencing extreme grief, so she attacked earth. And for people who played battleblock theatre originally, they realize the correlation during both of the "it all makes sense now" scenes. So there you go. I dont know the correlation of Castle crashers but thats the jyst of it. I believe the main victims of this story were Hatty and the Female Cosmic Bear, but of course they were seen as monsters and murderers for something Hatty couldn't control, and The Female Bears grief over the loss of her lover.
How the hell did you manage this?! I’ve been trying the level ever since the damn thing came out! And I still haven’t beat it. I just decided to give up a few months ago. Fuck it, no more!
Go watch the cutsecenes from Pit People to understand this. You dont need gameplay you just need to watch the cutscenes. And you'll be saying "mmm, yes it all makes sense now"
The hatty "puppet" used in the end isnt a puppet, its him attatched to sticks. You can tell because its still underwater. SO DARK! Also the bear who died was the narrator, and he was screaming no... because he got killed...
I love how that game is a Mix of : *Challange (cause the last few levels are Hard as hell.), *Emotional (Cause it is kinda sad when we discover that Hatty is dead.), *Mystery (Cause the Hat falls into the Hatty's head and got Green and then proceeded to Lauch a giant Lazer that killed a giant Space "Bear"? But what does it means?) *Crazyness. (BUCKLE YOUR PANTS, PULL UP YOUR SOCKS AND DANCE! BUCKA BUCKA BUCKA! BUCKLE YOUR PANTS!)
A remaster would be more realistic, If you remember Pit People *oh yeah, spoilers for anyone who hasn’t played Pit People* The 2nd space bear destroyed Everything and Everyone (except 2 people) in the universe with Hatty so unless the farmer turns back time and saves everyone and stops the hat from being made, it’s really unrealistic that BattleBlock Theatre will get a sequel

A theory: I believe the monster we see be killed at the end is the master of "craziness and goofiness" and since he was killed, it all made sense why Hatty went there. He wanted the world to be the same again, like our world.
