Embrace the Horrors of WWI The Battle of Verdun as Eight French soldiers in Battlefield 1 - A Shell Shock/PTSD Simulator. PlayStation 4 Multiplayer gameplay footage. Music - • Battlefield 1 OST Prol... #Battlefield1 #WWI #NoHUD
I recall reading a soldier's diary about this battle. He wrote that the shelling was so intense, a tree would be blasted into the air, and just as it is coming back to the earth, another shell would hit and send the tree back into the air before hitting the ground. This would repeat itself, two, three, even four times.
A french soldier tottaly wipped out of his memory the bombardment, he only remembered that he was moving to verdun with his company (Sorry my english is awfull)
Until he decided to become a puppet of Germany. I know he wanted to preserve France with Fascism, but he should've ruled France under French terms, not German. Sad that he became a traitor, but I still admire the man for what he did for his country during the 1910's.
Inigo Villanueva He did what he had to do to preserve the french people from hard repression by the germans. Many see him as a traitor, but a smart stateman entitled with general decision over the populace would have done the same thing : collaborate. It was the 300 000 jew or the millions of french, it's sad and discusting to write, but it's the dark truth. He was too smart of a man to risk and face openly the jerries, and any distrust felt by them toward Vichy brought to violence toward the french people.
The battle lasted 303 days. And it also lead to the French forces losing more men in those 303 days then the US Army has ever lost in its entire existence.
Relentless the campaign should have been like the opening level where u start at verdun and every time you die you switch to the battles that opened up to relive verdun like the somme and the brusilov offensive to show how deadly the whole affair was
the once beautiful landscape now nothing more than a husk tainted in the blood and sweat of men who died in this fearsome war to end all wars but in reality it didn't end anything but laid a path for future wars with even more bloodshed
The Nazy Party wasn't a thing that Hitler created, but joined. He merely make that party powerfull enough to get power of a nation. And truth be told, it's "thanks" to Hitler that nowadays, we don't want to put civilians in war casualties. And it's also "thanks" to him that there's now borders to not cross when two countries are at wars. If Hitler died in Wolrd War I, I don't think that would be so great than everyone think. It's sad to say it, but "thanks to" what Hitler has done, it opens Humanity Eye's on how a war should be.
It's sad isn't it? I mean....there were no good guys, no bad guys, just....just killing the other man because he spoke a different language and because he wore a different uniform. That was it. I mean when you read the Journals of soldiers from both sides from that war it's just depressing.
One thing even stranger, that I've learn recently thanks to one of my friend: Thanks to all the nazi's research on medicine, and thans to their human experimentation, we can, in 10 years, save more people than the nazis kill in the same lapse of time. I'm not saying that the end justifies the means, but it's even more strange and sad to say that, if Hitler hadn't get power, we wouldn't have what we have nowadays. And that's what really, really sad to say, but Hitler coming to power was maybe the "best" thing that could have happened at the time, for all the worse thing that we could have get if he hadn't take control of the Nazis Parti.
Sadly, it seems like it would've been better if the allies lost. A central powers victory will mean no Treaty of Versailles, so no World War II, cause the monarchs will still be in power. I love France, but I confess, It would have been better off if France was defeated. 73 million people wouldn't die, and Empire's will keep their empires (for a longer time).
The medical research the Nazis conducted was pretty much useless apart from the reserch into hypothermia. They made progress into the understanding of how to recover from hypothermia but it wasn't ground breaking to be honest. It was debated after the war as to whether it was valid research due to the fact that the people that subjects were not healthy and the obvious horrific lack of any ethics involved. Although, their research into smoking was well ahead of it's time.
They really couldn’t. If you refused to go over the top during a raid or charge officers would shoot you on the spot. It was also common for officers to shoot men who turned to run back towards friendly trenches. There’s even instances of men who had by mistake been separated from their division and were labeled deserters and executed, men who had simply gotten lost in the chaos of war! Your options back then we’re either die at the hands of the enemy or by your own soldiers
ben sudol An example that shows how humans have gotten better, smarter, and nicer. I’m not saying that we still aren’t pieces of trash destroying the world that somehow can’t agree to work together so we can be ready for larger threats in the future
J.R.R. Tolkien (1892-1973), writer of LotR and Hobbit novels, fought there (as British soldier) and recycled motto (actually quote of Robert Nivelle)"They shall not pass" as Gandalfs yelling against demon Balrog #YOU SHALL NOT PASS# in "Fellowship of the Ring"
6:04 this scene... *Edit* For those who want to see more of the Battlefield 1 No HUD videos for the French Army, here's a link to go ahead and watch it! :D ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZbBw_7L0yng.html
And in the end, France has 6 maps all for themselves. That makes them tied with Russia and UK. Or would you have liked them to rush out bits and pieces all at once?
King star they were the easiest to make. Only 2 maps, France’s maps and Russia’s maps look the best because they were the ones with the most worked maps
Imagine the conversations the soldiers will have Uh hans is that a house flying in the sky? Hans: nien that probably has to be a French zeppelin or weather zeppelin Fritz:are you sure that zeppelin has bright balloons on it
Insurgency: both? Both And bugs, lots of them lmao I adore BF1, I have so much fun with it that I ever did with BF3. I just miss the C4 buggies, bane of every tank. I suppose I could stuff some TNT into a bikes sidecar... 😂
@@arizonaranger2333 Ah, I thought it was a war movie. But seems to be one those movies for kids that adults can enjoy too, I might watch it. Thanks my dude.
It's harder to be immersed if the camera moves quickly. It's strange enough having first person because most movies don't do that. Moving the view slowly really captures the horrors of war and is easier to be immersed into.
Qwark007 Don't worry its still an awesome work, obviously it would be better if you move slowly the camera to capture the horror of the war and feel like you are a real soldier, because well... Battlefield is super arcade, but still a cool job!
JustLikeDirt Oh man you are right, i remember doing that in the campaign mission Storm of Steel and well... hard to tell what i feel in there, and it was on PS4, i don't imagine what would happen to mind if the game is on PC 4K Ultra, maybe if that happens i will have to go to the psycologist lol
I am in the french military and did my initial formation in Verdun. It was special to learn how to be a soldier in these fields where millions died. During our walks, we used to go next to fields that have been shreded by artillery, with enormous holes that were like 5 meters deep... Can't imagine what these guys went through.
This game is just outstanding, the atmosphere is unbeatable. Constant screams of pain and terror. The noise of gunfire and artillery shells overhead is terrifying. This game is such a gem
In my opinion, this is a very respectful representation of the fallen Frenchmen at Verdun, but of course to the Germans too. Brings largely 'black and white' history quite realistically into the present, so that we may begin to better comprehend the horror of WW1 carnage. Thank you.
Warfare is much more sophisticated these days. The enemy programs you with a rectangular box which you volunetary place in the centre of your living rooms. This box then programs you into voluneraly getting toxins injected to your veins. Best to comprehend modern day warfare too don't you think?
I’d like to confirm that these were edited for the intentions of the devastation during the First Wold War and reference to the prologue mission in the game. :)
DocDum they might actually win defense if they weren't doing that. I can't tell you how many garbage teams I've been put on. Full of people who can't comprehend the reason shit descended into trench warfare.
It’s realistic if you are fast because if your in an adrenaline rush, fire and explosions all around you thinking if your too slow you’ll die your gunna be bolting.
Descend into darkness 303 days below the sun Fields of Verdun And the battle has begun Nowhere to run Father and son Fall one by one Under the gun Thy will be done And the judgement has begun Nowhere to run Father and son Fall one by one Fields of Verdun
From the variety of BF1 immersion videos, it seems the game inspires respect and a somber acknowledgement of the horrors of war and the devastating cruelty a man can unleash upon another
Whereas most other youtube videos about BF1 focus on game features, and basic WWI history, your videos are like the youtube version of "All Quiet on The Western Front" or something. I like how you seem to make BF1 gameplay almost movie-like, but don't play like some super soldier Rambo gunning down thousands of enemies, but make the gameplay look like you're just another average soldier in the conflict. Hell, some of your gameplay seems more realistic then the BF1 campaign. Props to you! edit: I laughed my ass off when I looked at the info box and it said the game was "Verdun"
@Virtuvirus Im with ya! Get rid of crosshairs, minimaps, heck all UI in first person shooters! Except maybe optional subtitles. Games need a purge of tutorials and helping hands.
For an avid reader of WW1 and especially Verdun, this game is an incredible achievement. In the right mind state, you feel that you are there visually. You don't feel the strain of the event or the smell of something that is a churned up mixture men, trees, roads, horses, dirt, metal, all taking place of the ground beneath your feet.
The German objective was to kill as many French as possible, not to invade. So the Germans won the battle looking at their objective, but the French objective was to defend Verdun, the Verdun that was actually targeted to be ravaged, not pierced.
I really like how sometimes in this game on Operations your team can just be stuck on a point because of the enemies constant motor strikes and mustard gas. Everything is so loud and all you hear are explosions, gun shots, and screaming as everything around you is shaking. This game gets really intense at times and I have no idea how these brave young men got through this war.
Yep I play operations regularly and sometimes our team gets stuck on a point because the enemy team are defending it so well, constant artillery, grenades, etc.
"Le général Pétain a foi en vous soldats, il est comme nous ! Un simple Français, animé par l'amour de la Patrie ! Battez-vous pour lui et pour la France !!!!!!!" Les gars, ce discours m'émeut... Une pensée pour nos braves qui ont souffert et sont morts durant cette grande bataille.
La suite il pouvait pas la prévoir je pense... Les gars dans les tranchées à ce moment là ils étaient bien contents de l'avoir (même si on peut pas en dire autant pour la 2ème guerre)
Teacher: Ok class we're going on a trip to Verdun, France. Girls: OMG! I love France I hope I can see some cute boys there! Boys: This is Verdun. Here... They shall not pass!
I was able to walk the trenches of Verdun on the 100 year anniversary. Watching this brings to me to tears thinking about what happened so long ago. Je suis fier. Vive la France.
6 years later I appreciate your work putting this together. With the names. Beautiful touch had the same idea right before I watched this video. So cool.
One of the things Battlefield 1 excelled at was creating a chaotic, nightmarish, almost apocalyptic atmosphere in it's maps. That image of the entire forest skyline burning sticks in your head. To a young man in 1916 at the Battle of Verdun, it must have seemed like the world was ending.
I'd love to see more vids like these recreating the battles of WW1, super interesting to get a first person perspective on how these battles played out
Petain here: leads France to victory and demonstrates pure strength and resolve of the French people Petain 24 years later: I am gonna do what's called a pro-gamer move
We just finished learning about World War 1 in History, and I already knew many things, which was awesome. My favorite and most fascinating unit of the year so far.
Coming from a british person (suprisingly) the french are badass. In WW2, not so much, until the french resistance. Napoleon, george clemenceau etc. WW1 they fought crazily for the protection of their country.
Really liked the names you added after a death. Wish that was like that throughout the entire game, including multiplayer, not just the one campaign mission that did that.
I'm here just to tell you a story : I live not for from Verdun , and it's amazing going there sometimes. The landscape looks like a doomed sea, with holes , sometimes 20 meters deep. You feel very tiny besides them. In 1916, French Poilus were "prepared" in Verdun. In fact , Alsace-Moselle were germans (today french territory). So, people who lived in those region were enrolled in the german army. Before Verdun, many alsatians deserter from the german army, who spoke french and german, went to the french commandment to tell something big was preparing. German thought Verdun was the weakest point of the french Defense, they were wrong.
Love the gameplay videos, they are amazing. And to everyone bitching that the running around, quick movement and shooting is not historically accurate, the very first battles of the war from the initial German advance up and till the race to the sea was all fast moving as you see here. It was only when the two sides were unable to turn each others flanks at the sea that defensive trenches became the main feature, and that’s just the western front. The war against the Turkish in the Middle East the allies rarely ever used trenches (apart from Gallipoli). Although Verdun was mostly a trench v trench battle I am willing for the makers of the game to take a creative liberty to make the game more interesting. It’s is often a difficult line to draw but here for me it does make sense
end oh yeah right sitting in trenches with only bolt-action rifles is so much fun right? Oh wait how about this: artillery is coming right at you and also gas and you have no way of surviving it. Battlefield 1 is not a war simulator you muppet its a game
