Hopefully one day we will be able to make private servers, if Battlefield 2 modern combat could, Battlefield 1943 can! and it will work with emulator on PC!
Private servers would have been sweet. Sucks that they cancelled the PC port. If we had that, getting private servers up and running probably would not be a big challenge.
