Battlefield 2042 has made a big turn around in 2 years since it was released. Let's play and discuss the problems and potential future. Leave a LIKE and a comment, thanks for watching.
Although the games in a much better state, I still struggle to get over how basically all the maps feel soulless. Next battlefield has to nail the atmosphere of whichever setting they choose
The maps and overall look of the game, just isn't it. Bf4 will never be forgotten because of it's insanely amazing dynamics from sound to look to feel and let's not forget the immersion.
The franchise is like being in a domestic abuse relationship. It promises to be better, but ends up mentally and financially abusing you. It never apologises, just gaslights and pretends it’s you with the problem.
As someone who came from COD, I think we had it worse than from DICE LOL, but Battlefield is more enjoyable for me than COD lately, although I do agree with you.
Black screens have happened to me since launch and they're still happening. This game is really weird. There's fun to be had, but at the same time I just hate many of the core things this game does.
i actually like the black screens .... play a few matches and then screen goes black and i just turn it off , get back to regular life ,,,, if it didn't turn go black i'd playing a lot longer lol
he's talking about the specific error, after you finish a multiplayer game or swap sides, it's only a recent issue...granted however I've had issues since launch also.
They've been a thing since BF1 if I remember correctly... Might have fixed it in the meantime, and it's a new similar issue that popped up now... but... I remember such an issue in BF1
Went back to BF1 again recently and god it was so bloody beautiful it just made me really sad to think how far BF has fallen. 2042 is such an insult to the series in every way. Even the BF1 soundtrack just oozes epic and beautiful. I miss those days so bad.
I’ve tried to come back to BF 2042 several times since it came out, even talked my friends into checking it out time and time again after being burned so hard by the disastrous launch. Always gets stale after a couple of rounds, it just feels soulless compared to other BF titles, even BF V…
Should try looking through the portal servers. I mostly play rush/breakthrough but I only look for servers that are 128 players. Those servers are literally nothing but fun except playing rush on redacted. That’s the only poopy map on rush in my opinion. The regular Dice servers aren’t that much fun compared to portal
I still remember in October 2021, while I was studying at the University, how I received videos from my friends sending me edits of them having bugs and funny moments in battlefield 2042 (One of them went viral making a video of the "real trailer" of battlefield 2042) and God. How quickly time goes by, I almost didn't even realize that this game was two years old lol
With the news of the servers being shut down for the following BF games on December 8th, would love to see you make some videos on them. - Bad Company - 1943 - Bad Company 2 - Bad Company 2: Vietnam
I think that a relevant detail about the free weekend retaining a lot of players is that the game was on sale on steam specifically. Not on EA Client. So the platform that publicly reports their stats, got way more sales because they sold the game for 10€ It's not just that the free weekend wowed so many people ( some players it probably did) but also that a lot of people could finally bring themselves to buy the game now that it wouldn't sting as bad. This is of course subject to my memory, so... I'm not infallible
I still miss the sense of actually winning the map that you got from BF2 with its destrucable objectives (arty, scan, etc) wheras now, the games just seem to arbitrarily end.
Agree. Something feels uninspiring about capping a point with a flag. Let us destroy bridges and relay dishes, or hit their logistics. Tangible objectives that give the battle meaning and context.
My continuing issue with Battlefield games is that they don't want to support them long term. Every time a new BF game comes out, it has a zillion problems. By the time the next one is about to release, the previous one is finally in great shape… but now it's being abandoned. The idea of Portal was amazing to me, because I thought maybe this would be the "forever" version of the game. I really hope they eventually produce a version of the game with long-term support. Fortnite has shown that this is a something that can work and make a lot of money.
Major improvements since launch, an understatement for sure. I do hope the black screen issue gets fixed soon, though. It happens to me most often when a game ends, and I'm trying to go back to the menu/matchmaking screen.
This has been in the game almost since launch I believe? also in previous battlefields I think. It's a joke. Happens to me on PC when I tab out to check my other monitor at the end of a game. Can't believe it hasn't been fixed!!
IMO, expanding Portal into a FTP model that slowly introduces old content into the new engine in the "expanded Battlefield Universe" would be a good play. Still not sure if BR is a good fit for Battlefield or not but I feel like it could be with urban, modern combat and plenty of destruction.
Agree. And longer TTK. Cause this is one of the mistakes of hazard zone. Fast TTK is fine in a respawn based mode. But in a BR or similar elimination type of game, it becomes very frustrating
Oh man that closing and not loading was driving me nuts. I swear half the time I feel like Im taking crazy pills as it’ll close out the second I look away, then I doubt if I even started the game.
If I press “Exit to menu” after a round I won’t get the black screen. Great video Jack! Been playing this game since launch and although all issues I’ve still enjoyed it overall 😀
@@extantfellow46dozer is canc3r,Mckay is even more canc3r and Sundance had always been on a thin line of annoying or broken since launch. They should delete all specialists imo but people buy skins so eh..
battlefield always nailed the ATMOSPHERE of war. thats why we kept coming back. the sound, suppression, big flashy visuals, 64vs64.(lots of players) the levolution, the classes, the fact that we all where the same soldiers(sense of unison), the attention to detail. all help towards the ATMOSPHERE of war. with 2042 they really dropped the ball. it doesnt feel the same.
I recently bought the game for 10 bucks. Had some fun sniping and playing quick conquest matches... Im glad I waited so long though because I did have to restart the game every time a match was over and I forgot to cancel into the main menu instead of pressing continue due to that blackscreen bug you mentioned. I think the map variety is a bit on the low side for a 2 year old game, but then again, I dont regret 10 bucks for some casual fun.
I remember one of the devs in an interview said that there was going to be 12 gauge frag rounds in 2042 but why only on portal? They should bring them to all shotguns. Also bring the spaz12 and the M1014 from bf3 to 2042 as unlock-able guns
One thing I really like about 2042 is footstep sounds. I couldn't hear literally any footsteps in BF games before until this one. I can hear footsteps so clearly it feels so good.
@@kevram7901shhh don't reveal the tricks to the casuals it's already impossible to flank with the broken suppressors in this game...40m+ only coverage on an attachment that is supposed to be used in hardcore cqc😂😂😂
@tileux Footstep sounds are great in 2042 but they're only loudest when sprinting. If running or especially walking they're much quieter. Basically sacrifice mobility for quietness which is a nice thing to have and hope it transfers to the next game. Guns and other things like some explosives do need better audio tho (the exception is anti tank mines those fuckers are powerful sounding af)
Crazy I loved battlefield but I never thought about playing this,,, I just miss the the atmosphere that bf1 and bf5 had they weren’t perfect but the pacing was perfect to me.
The black screen bug has been in the game since the beta. And they have been aware of it and there is an ancient EA forum thread where an EA employee confirms the Battlefield team are investigating the issue. Apparently they are still investigating two years later.
@@InstaMealGaming The issue was kind of suppressed for a while, so it occured less, but had not been fully fixed. And after the 6.0 update it started to happen almost every other match. But there definitely were times before, when the client had to be restarted after almost every single match. But the weird thing is it has never been consistent and not everyone has been affected at the same time.
I indeed still play this game. Hoping for more content while we wait for the next game. I actually really like 2042, it's really turned out alright and provides for some fun gameplay time. That's what matters most to me, is that I can enjoy the game.
My current biggest issue with the game (besides the soullessness and lack of atmosphere) is that on console it constantly gives me the same 2 or 3 maps and doesn’t put any others on ever at all, worse is they’re the maps I like the least, and they’re always empty and I’m stuck waiting for people to join and if I leave to get a different map or full match it just puts me right back in it no matter what.
I've had that blackscreen bug on PC like every other match. It makes playing multiple rounds super annoying since I have to restart so often. Hope they fix it
I have that issue where the game wont launch either. we also need a proper server browser, no matching making that splits everyone up every match. It's incredibly annoying getting more than 4 people into the same game, just to have them split up after the game and then the second squad needs to join off the first squad again which ends up putting them in queue 99% of the time. this is the number 1 reason my group doesn't play this game. We might play 1 or 2 matches and then everyone gets tired of trying to get into the same game.
I am still bummed that the Eastern Front for BFV was cut short for BF2042. I still can't believe this game missed the one and only faction that employed regularly women on the front.
@@not_your_business666 Gameplay-wise for sure, and if they kept the narrative more historically accurate BFV could've been the peak of the franchise. So much wasted potential
Haven’t been able to play it for what feels like 12 months. I played if for two or three matches once the classes were added then wasn’t able to get back on it until today. It’s such a fun game & I’ve missed it. Really enjoying where it’s at. I’ve always enjoyed it I just wish there were more oceana players
Yeah random bullet deviation was awesome. Automatic fire improving accuracy whilst tap fire killed accuracy was awesome. Not being able to create your own load outs was awesome. Skill trees awesome. Drip fed content awesome.
You know, for all the things this game got wrong - I have been playing it a lot recently. The matchmaking is not brutal, I feel like I can just game without sweating my ass off, the maps are passable, and the gunplay and teamplay is awesome. While there is much to be desired, as far as a large scale multiplayer fps offering goes its pretty fun. Hopefully they learn and nail the next BF game, although I have severe doubts lol
Feel the same, although I'm not sure if that speaks more to what Dice is doing well, or what other games are doing worse. FPS games like Halo & COD can be so infuriating to play nowadays, but BF is always a fun time in 2023
- Blackscreen issue I've had since launch but it's now more common. Basically when you leave a game after EOR game breaks, gotta Alt+F4. - The game starting and after the anti-cheat loads, it exits I've had for a good while too. Usually when I launch the game without launching EA play first. - I've also been getting this one bug recently where it stops loading high res textures, then models and then the game crashes on EOR. I've been having more gamebreaking stuff now than a year or 2 ago tho lmao.
Been a gamer right from the beginning. Best years were playing the Battlefield series, especially BF4. Great mix of teamplay, individual effort, and loads of laughter and trolling.
It doesn't feel like it's been that long honestly, but i enjoyed the game from the start despite some things. After I got used to it and got better it got more enjoyable. I still have an issue where i load up the game and it just stays at that loading screen and doesn't connect to online services, I gotta restart for it to then load . Overall its much better now and more enjoyable.
Bought it a month ago on sale and I feel bad for any loyal fan that bought this game at launch. It is still riddled with bugs and I wish I could have returned it but I was too far in by the time I realized. If this is it coming a long way, just wow. It will be a long long time till I buy another bf game at launch after the state I see this game in.
It feels pretty good on PS5 now. I play a game or two almost every day. Sometimes I just do bot lobbies and wreck everything with a helicopter and that's a lot of fun for me still. I still would have liked to see what they had planned for a campaign but I guess we'll never know the story of the No-Pats. There's probably some lore I haven't read but I would rather just have a campaign.
I took like a year off from the game when I deployed last year, came back to it and was surprised it wasn’t that much better than the original state. After many patches from last year to now, it’s gotten better. My only complaints are the team match making where one team is full of new, lower level players and the other have high ranking, experience players; my other complaint is spawning, I’d say a third of my deaths are just poor spawning. I even spawned in front of a claymore a few times. Also: can’t seem to finish matches without being booted; only happens on this game.
Despite 2042, I still see a lot of hope for BF. The BF community is very different from the COD community. Criticism penetrates much better and is much more noticeable because we are a small community compared to COD. After BF5 and especially after 2042, DICE and EA can no longer afford to completely fail again. If they do that again, BF will have a huge problem. I want Battlefield to just remain Battlefield and not try to be like the competition.😢
I just picked up playing it again. First time in a year, first time playing it on PC. It would be a shame not to have more seasons. I'm in love with the realism and advanced graphics in comparison to Warzone.
This game made such a turnaround. It's definitely not the best BF game but it's damn fun as a sandbox shooter. If only Activision could take accountability like Dice did and CoD could do the same thing.
As bad as CoD can be, they still have never released a game anywhere near as bad as 2042. It's taken 2 years for this game to feel about half as good as what we expect from Dice.
What turnaround exactly? It doesn’t have any actual good player engagement, the only engagement has come from free periods or momentary short gamepass inflation. It’s on its way out and not many will remember it fondly aside from those hellbent on being contrarians for the sake of being contrarian.
@@godsstrongestschizo And the price tag is still insane, for a multiplayer game with no offline functions and no story. I think more of us have deeper connections with BF3, BF4 and BF1 than 2042. In fact, I'll head back to play BF4 again
I love the game. Play it everyday , I’m retired , ( yes old guys play video games) I enjoy the maps currently however some earlier map features would be nice. Stopped playing war zone since the new release. Great content as always Jack. Been watching you from your early days. Love the Scottish mates video with the RPG Motorcycle jump challenge. It’s a classic.
Black screen bug with background music has been in the game since day one and it's happening to me pretty much after every match, no matter what game mode it is
Jack, about the black screen issue... if you run the game in windowed mode, it will fix your issue. after you're in the game, you can change it to full screen
They spent those 2 years mostly trying make the base maps somewhat more viable and fixing bugs, so basically 2 years in beta. Was hoping portal would have been the saving grace of this game, but they’ve barely done anything with it
The other problem with portal is simply the community not utilizing it. No one makes servers with interesting game modes anymore. I remember a popular mode early on where you'd have 8-12 players on a 128 player map, snipers only, and the longer distance your kills were the more points you'd get. No one hosts servers with interesting game modes like that anymore and all there is is XP grind and hardcore CQ servers.
@@JonnyCrackers honestly all I want out of portal is BF3 characters an vehicles, all the maps in rotation, and BF3 and 2042 weapons thrown into the mix. If they would just capitalize on Portal and throw in remastered maps and factions from all the games, the community could really make its own fun. Not the best answer but it’s where we’re at right now
My current biggest technical issue, is when the game stops loading in assets properly, either textures are blurred, assets have the lowest LOD even though sitting inside them or worst case player models start being completely invisible. When the match is done with these artefacts, the game can't continue and is stuck in a black screen. It's always the same symptoms that cause the same outcome. I am so confused on why that is. My game is installed on an SSD and the rest of my setup is not that weak, it's playable I'd say. I've tried to find a fix on it for some weeks but nothing ever worked so far. While the game itself is super fun, technical issues that never go away like these, are so off putting. I wish it would've been indefinitely fixed, but I still play it with my friends. lol
I live in Australia and while the game is stil active the population will eventually decline to barely playable levels. I am grateful for the bots because they make matches happen until it does fill up and I wish they would make a conquest map launch with only one person and bots and others can fill in because some during some times theres not enough players required. I also wish they would do this for past battlfields because although its possible its not a lot of the time where I can play multiplayer matches.
Kinda like how the BF4 timeline worked out. Took them year and a half to make it even playble and then they kept polishing it until the end of support. And now BF4 is regarded as one of the best BF games ever.
@@kekkonenprkl BF4 was playable 6 months after release and had a good foundation from the beginning. 2042 was 'fixed' after two years and still feels like the scrapped BR mode that is was built from
@@Courtesyflush52 CTE was first launched 7 months after the release of BF4. At the time the game was a broken mess. So no, the game was not fixed in half a year, they had not even started testing the major fixes required at that point. The first netcode patches were released on the live client in the summer of 2014 and the last major technical issues were fixed by the end of 2014. That's over a year already. They also fixed core gameplay stuff all the way through summer 2014 till spring 2015. Yeah, the game had a "good foundation", because they kept pumping in those fully loaded DLCs even when the base game wasn't ready, so the game was packed in terms of content. In reality the spring 2015 state of the game should have been the state of the game at release. Summer and fall 2015 they started to release those free "sorry we messed up" DLCs in the game.
Important to note, the player count is coming from Chinese players or other eastern countries. The peaks are at odd hours in the day and when it’s around 12 or 1 here it’s only 16k if I recall correctly. Same story with battlefield 5
I didn’t know the presence Chinese and eastern players should be declared as if they’re skewing the data. They’re players like everyone else, they’re just not centered in your time zone
The trailers in this game, especially shown on this map, have a big screen that shows their speed and whatnot. The catch is, they put it facing the truck that would pull it, so no one could actually see it in use. This has bugged me since launch.
I feel like battlefield is getting less and less realistic to compete with cod and that's what made battlefield better it was more realistic they weren't magical bullets that never dropped off and stuff like that
Problem is, casuals and wannabe streamer pros don't like realism. They just want a sanitized shootey game, where they click a button that makes the red enemy marker disappear and 100xp show up on their screen. They tried to give us large maps with 128 players, but everyone complained it was too realistic, so now you can bet the next game will have a bunch of Metro/Locker 3 lane maps.
When i got the game at launch I was left feeling like lost money rather then spending money on a game. It was almost unplayable. here we are 2 years later and after a week of playing Im definitely enjoying it. it definitely more complex then BFV with gadgets etc but it gives me vibes of the chaos of some of the BF3/4 maps and then the futuristic nature of BF2142 "god i miss that one". 128 players is just mental too.
Two years ago I still had hearing loss but I could at least hear the background music and more low-mid dB range sound effects in the game. Plus your voice was louder and clearer and I heard more like, for lack of a better way to phrase it , you punctuation of words and sentence structures were more understandable to me. Man I didnt even have the luxury of losing my hearing in a good ol fashioned war like this. Such a shame they canceled the gme basically though,.
With all these new names appearing in game oz, wolff, maria, doctor etc, i can only assume these are either new specialists or lore for this so called expanded universe..... i still loath seeing the same characters in game, sure there is skins, but jeez Dice .. scrap this specialist mechanic, give us random nobody soldiers fighting on a battlefield without the lame characters. The tone was so off they had to remove the cheesy one liners like 'angel does it again'.
I think they should make a separate BF game and call it Battlefield Portal maybe free to play and have it supported indefinitely and have the different eras and customization. But still make mainline BF titles. I think that would be the best thing for Portal. Have the eras/styles: BF1(WWI), BFV(WWII), BF3/BF4(Modern), Hardline(Cops & Robbers), and of coarse Battlefield 2042(Future). I think that would be amazing. I love Battlefield and I think they should make Portal it’s own beast of a Battlefield game. Don’t do portal in the next game. For it to be any good it has to be its own entity. It’s the only way for it to be done properly. Please.. DICE!!
I played it due to me recently getting the EA play subscribtion. I'm a hardcore Rainbow six player and needed a break from that game , between COD, apex, etc. This game in its current state is the most that i enjoy currently. I hope there are more seasons.
I uninstalled it a while back. My biggest issue at launch was that it was no wear near finshed AND that they removed classes for a whole new type of game. No matter how much work they do to revive it. Playing the game will show devs they can charge fans full price on launch and spend 2 years fixing it. Staying away is like my silent protest that you deliver for fans on launch in the future. A shame but I'm not pre-order the next one after this experience. I'll wait for the launch reviews, and they better not remove classes again.
I played at launch and never touched until a month ago. Its definitely a lot better than it was two years ago but i feel like it still has a ways to go before it becomes a daily play.
Even through the bugs, I still love BF 2042 its come a long way indeed, and I agree with Jack 5:09 if BF should take a page out of cod, they should bring back some more fan maps and port them in bf 2042, that would be awesome!
This game, just destroyed BF, really dont understand why people say now its not that bad? This is just the biggest reason AAA games just sux... people still buy it and play it... No standards anymore
For me on Xbox there was really no performance issues at all that I experienced at launch for the game. Once in awhile I would experience reload glitches on my guns and textures bugging out but it wasn’t bad. I guess I was lucky.
The finals was a nice breath of fresh air. It really brought me back to BFBC2 The destruction and sound design is insane and crisp. I can't wait for the full release
2 years old, still in Early Access. If you have the Steam version you have to Verify integrity of game files" after every update or the game won't load after the splash screen.
I was one of those weirdeos who really enoyed 2042 at launch, I knew it wasn't perfect, it didn't have the atmosphere ect. but I have a blast. I remember the first time playing, it was a 128 person game and seeing all the infantry run out, the tanks rolling out, jets and copters overhead, it felt really epic. Portal not getting much support doesn't surprise me, when they first announced it I remember thinking it was going to be nothing but XP farms and low and behold... that's what a lot of the servers I saw at launch where, and still are today. I really enjoy it as a solo player, just set up a PVE round and have fun playing some classic BF3 Rush or whatever. I hope it's around next game but tweaked so it's used for how it was intended and not just bot/xp farms.
Their desperate to earn a bit of money back they put in? Its not that strange... How did they dare to release this game in the state it was?!?! Seems most just forgot about it, and put allot of money in it...
After the damage dealt to the brand with BF2042s release can you imagine how much worse it would be if they walked away? I personally believe they did all the work to BF2042 just to give the next BF release a bit of a fighting chance.
For me on Xbox one X playing @ 4k hdr. I had massive performance issues on the beta and day 1. massive hit reg issues. guns felt weird still kinda feel weird but once you get attachments and feel each gun out its not bad anymore. as far as improvement goes idk. They clearly gotta stick to the classes but theres only so many unique specialist to make. I will say angel and faulk need a rework they shouldnt be one man army they need to bring back support and medic as separate roles esp if they wanna stick to the classes.. that being said they arent as broken as day 1. Angel was a Warzone operator running around plating/getting ammo and using medbags to heal and using a carepackage to be the sole anti air/anti vehicle was to op.
