Join me on an EPIC solo overnight backpacking trip to Battleship Mountain, in the Superstition Wilderness of Arizona. The 13 mile round trip hike begins at the First Water Trail Head parking lot, and ends on top of one of the most challenging boulder scrambles in the Superstitions - BATTLESHIP MOUNTAIN. The most terrifying hike I've been on is complete with 10-15 ft high rock wall climbs and a boulder ridge scramble that is sure to get your heart pumping as you balance on the bright yellow, moss covered boulders with 100+ ft cliffs on both sides.

God bless you. Every video I have seen is how to manage getting to the top of Battleship Mountain, but I really wanted to know how to not get lost (I am good at that) on the way there. This video was so helpful with the maps.

Um I am just going to go out on a limb here and say doesn't the matted down part of the trail kind of give it away that you are on the trail? .....what would you need the CARIN's for.......and to comment on your journey from your tent to the summit.....HELL NO.....maybe when we were in high school, but defiantly not now, I will have to live that one through you brother, tanks for another great Moonjucie adventure.

Hi Brevan, new sub here. I've recently finished your AZT videos and loved every one of them. I did the AZT last spring and loved the area so much I'm flying back to the U.S. in March to do The Grand Enchantment Trail. As I've got quite a bit of time before I can enter Aravaipa Canyon I was looking for things to do/see off trail and this fits the bill perfectly, it looks amazing. Thank you for sharing and good luck for the future.

Awesome Alan! I've run into other thru hikers that have done the Grand Enchantment trail, and loved it. Its not used much, so prepare to bushwhack! I like to do trail magic from time to time in the spring for the AZT NOBO's, I might see you out there.

Too dangerous? Truth be told, the wide angle on the GoPro makes this looks worse than it really is (not that it’s not pretty nerve racking).

Once got into a very scary situation climbing borders, by myself, high in the Sierra Nevada Mts. Wasn't sure for a bit whether I was going to get out alive. Your video reminded me of that. Thought you did a excellent job of filming there.
@MoonJuiceHikes

Thanks Dave! The danger doesn’t always translate well on the GoPro, but it’s pretty clear here.

My heart pounds much worse watching some of this, than it did in person. I think the GoPro wide angle lens makes it looks worse on video than it was in person. It was definitely scary in person, but it looks absolutely terrifying at times on video.

How is the exposure on the climbing sections? The one shot of you climbing up and down a section didnt look to be near any cliffs. Obviously there were some huge cliffs in the hiking and boulder-hopping parts. If the climbing sections are only 10-20 foot exposures id feel more comfortable soloing this
@MoonJuiceHikes
@MoonJuiceHikes Месяц назад
I think there are 3 short walls you need to scramble up, but if you’re comfortable with class 4 and low level class 5 terrain, it’s not a problem. They’re only 10-15 ft tall. Most of the challenge is figuring out the route, it’s not always so obvious. Best to give yourself plenty of extra time. Really cool hike!

I’m gonna be heading out there in a week and a half trying to find a loop that has a possibility of water. Was there any water at second water spring do you know in that area?
@MoonJuiceHikes
@MoonJuiceHikes 3 года назад
You know, there were a couple small stagnant pools. But, it had rained the weekend before. At this point, I wouldn’t expect to see water there. However, there is usually water in LaBarge canyon. If not, 100% certain there is filterable water at Charlebois spring. Anywhere else in the western superstitions, I wouldn't expect to find water right now.
