Interesting point is Colonials are polytheistic. Every time they speak of religion they reference multiple gods, even when swearing: "Gods damnit", "My gods" . Cylons are monotheistic and they all reference a single god.
@knavehart

At this point in the series development, they had not really explained that. Colonials say "Thank God" and such not "Thank the Gods"
@jubronaljoan

As an interesting point. Glen A Larson who wrote and produced the original late 70s Batterstar Galactica was an active practicing Mormon. Mormons are considered polytheistic by the predomitantly monotheisic mainstrain Christianity. Mormons also believe Their main God dwells on or near a star/planet called Kolob. Modern Morrmons are downplaying this belief. Life long Mormon here so I know what I'm talking about.

Every now and then the actors would slip, saying God rather than gods. At one point either in the miniseries or the first episode of the regular series Tigh exclaims "Jesus!" It was not in the script, just something Michael Hogan felt properly expressed his character's attitude at that particular moment, but definitely out of place for a Colonial to say within the BSG universe.

FYI a number of scenes where improvised by the actors in the moment, ie the chiefs speech to his deck crew, Adama's "so say we all" speech (the looks of surprise on the other actors was genuine as they had no idea what was going on. Neither did the director but he decided to let it run).

the thing that was improvised was the number of times "so say we all" was repeated, rest of that monologue is integral to the entire story of the show, and was not improvised. Commander Adama got 3 great speeches in the mini series alone!

@@davidbergfors6820 Actually most of the speech was improvised, mainly the tone. Adama speech as written had been somber. Edward James Olmos added a number of lines. The cheer that everyone gives after the speech was spontaneous and it surprised the director and the producer on set.

@@scottlescard6154 Improvising stuff like that is something that Eddie Olmos is apparently notorious for. His 1st scene in Miami Vice, he's supposed to walk up to Don Johnson's Sunny Crocket, and say his lines. The entire week that they shot that episode, Olmos never once looked at or spoke to Don Johnson until he was on the set and say his lines and even then, he did not look at Johnson in the eye or even his face, like he was in character the entire time and was treating the actor as if he was lead character who was Olmos' character's subordinate, one he had never met before or cared about.

And seriously I feel like a teenage boy every time she’s on screen so sometimes it’s hard to focus on anything other than how gorgeous she is, but her performance as Six is one of the most top-tier jobs I’ve ever seen in any piece of sci fi media to this day. I am glad you not only like the show, but that the discussion was so passionate and... we barely started.. There are episodes in the series which will outshine the mini-series by a lot, also there is a really decent movie - BSG Razor you will have to see somewhere during the 3rd season. I am always envious of people watching the show from the beginning. My first experience were two random episodes of season 3 and only when I have seen them and the quality of the show shocked me the way it managed to deal with certain, very hard subject I've decided to see everything from the start. And after that I've realised I've seen a part of the miniseries years earlier and stupidly ignored BSG for 2-3 years. Tiny explanation - Lords of Kobol are the gods - the civilisation is polytheistic, which makes the monotheistic Cylons different also when it comes to this factor. Religion is a major subject in the show. When it comes to the battles in space I think it is somewhere between Star Wars and the Expanse - realistic enough to make us afraid of space and how difficult it is to live onboard, but much like Star Wars when it comes to fighters, dealing with gravity etc. I personally judged the Expanse overall better than BSG only when it managed to show all those excellent battles in season five. Before that I cnsidered BSG the best depiction of war in space. To this day I think that it deals with one factor better - war in space can be so terribly beautiful - like raging sea waves can be beautiful. I am certain you will enjoy the next episode. After all this time it still might be one of top 5 from the entire series in my opinion. It is crazy to notice how many minor characters, even background actors with one line, will become important during the series. Take care and so say we all!

"IS THAT HELO?!"🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂😅🤣😂😁😄😃😀😄😃😀😍 THIS IS GOING TO BE SO AWESOME.... You've only finished the mini series and you're already obsessed with figuring out who is a Cylon. It is too early to say this but I'll make the heads up anyway. In future seasons there are longer director's cuts of some episodes. Check your disks ahead of time. There is one director's cut a lot of fans care for less than the shorter episode that aired, but trust me, all the director's cuts should be your pick. There are also BSG movies that aired between breaks. So again, your discord crew should give you advance notice what to watch when. Myself I say watch them in broadcast order. Have to say it: the design work for BSG is so FRAKKING cool. The base ships.... the Cylon raiders.... the epic Centurian robots. Speaking of Centurian robots there was an authorized, limited edition life size sculpts. 6 ft. Tall. I'd say look for pictures on the web, but there's a risk of you running across spoilers. So don't. Still they were life size, highly detailed sculpts. Every home should have one. For the low, low price of $10k. I so wanted one... By the time I kinda, sort of got interested in getting one... they were all sold. Helo is a dood.

Another thing that may or may not be considered spoiler-y ... The show runners (Moore and Eick) didn't have a detailed plan for the story arc, particularly in the later seasons. The series wasn't based on books to follow; they were making it up as they went along. The two did post-episode podcasts where they would talk about enjoying writing themselves into a hole and then figuring out how to get out of it.

@Mikey What the hell mate, did you just called the Galactica a steam ship!!??? Bro show some respect to the old girl. This shit cut deep I can tell you that much. :) Imagine the difference between the Nimitz class and the Ford class carrier. The latter is the cutting edge tech, requires less crew due to automatization, more prepared for modular upgrades, better power generation, increased sortie generation, etc... but that doesn't mean the Nimitz class is not something that could easily lay waste to entire countries and wholesale wipe out navies if it happened feel like that on that day. I've left a lengthy comment under the previous vid that explains a lot of the stuff that never really addressed in the show, like ships, weapons, etc... It contains no spoilers, mostly explains some of the military stuff in the show that comes handy and can only pickup from other sources. I'm so glad you guys enjoying this show, its so entertaining to watch you getting hooked and having your mind blow. The next episode is arguably the best first episode of any show. ( definitely the best I've ever seen ). James Callus' ( Gaius Baltar ) and Tricia Helfer's ( Number 6 ) scenes are hysterical. He steals every scenes he is in and their chemistry is off the charts together. Shoutout to Tricia, this was her real acting role and you will see how amazing she is. She can convey so much emotion with only a look or a slight change of expression on her face its amazing to watch as she gets the hang of it later. I think she is one of the standout in this show watching her growing into her character is such a joy. Not to mention, just simply watching her is a joy that woman is stunning. Same with Katee Sackhoff, she said "Eddie" ( Edward James Olmos - Adama ) told her that she was an inch away from being legendary in this role at the beginning but she needs to fully commit to the scenes and give it all she got. She always gives credit to him for giving her tips like that and helping the younger actors along. The acting in this show is phenomenal but they had a great material to work with. These characters are really complex, nobody perfect and their motivations and actions makes them extremely relatable. In regards to the ladies in this show. This is how you write outstanding female characters. Nobody cares about genders in this show, the girls are badass and interesting without the need to dumb down every male character around them to make them feel that way. They are everywhere, being a simple deckhand, serve in the CIC, literally one of the best pilot in the fleet or the President herself. They are not being treated in any way different than the guys around them, all of them doin' their job they just happen to be women. They especially prove this point when you learn that Starbuck was a male in the original TV show but Katie killed it so hard nobody gives a fuck about it, she owns that character. It's so refreshing when you compare this show to most other crap that comes out nowadays. Thanks to the old TV format of 20+ episodes / season there are "filler" episodes ( ghawd some of them are so good I could take seasons of those lol ) that are relatively quiet and they use them to develop the characters and their relationships. I stand by my opinion that BSG is still the best sci-fi show ever made. Oh, and pay attention to the music from now on. It was kinda lowkey in these two episodes but Bear McGreary will start to go off the rails in the show and his work is phenomenal.

@@732ReviewCrew This show goes wild. The Expanse eased you into it slowly, the mystery was always there slowly unfolding only showing what was absolutely necessary. This is different. Its a fight for the survival for the human race. I mean within 30 minutes into the show the Cylons are raining nukes on planets, reducing 12 planet worth of people to about 50k. Whenever you will be wondering why some people act the way they are always remember this. They are the survivors of a genocide, obviously pissed and full of emotions. The whiteboard is a good idea, this show rarely does what you think it will. These were obviously the pilot episodes and they're always a bit different but just wait for them to get into it, its a hell of a ride and honestly cant wait to see you guys experiencing it. Also, old TV format so lots of episodes / season os there are a lot of room for proper world building and explore characters and their backstory. Boxey in this series was based on a similar character from the original 1978 Galactica series. In the original he was the son of Serina, a reporter on Caprica who witnessed the Cylon Attack that wiped out the colonies. Over the course of the first several episodes (two story arcs) Serina fell in love with and married Captain Apollo, then was promptly killed off by the Cylons. As a result, Boxey was adopted by Apollo and - as was typical of sci-fi shows of the 70's and 80's - along with his robotic daggit (Colonial term for a dog in the older show), spent the series getting involved in various adventures, stowing away on dangerous missions, and being responsible for saving the Galactica a time or two. When Galactica was re-imagined in 2003, it was planned that this Boxey would serve a similar role in the show - think Wesley Crusher on TNG - but this series took a much darker and more realistic approach to the subject matter than the 1978 series did and the writers increasingly had trouble finding ways to fit Boxey into the ongoing plot. As a result, he appeared little during the first few episodes and then disappeared from the show entirely. This Boxey actually appears more in the deleted scenes of the first few episodes of the actual series than in the broadcast episodes themselves.

Think of the concepts of “transpermia”, and the so-called “ancient astronaut” theory. The idea that life begins in one planet, and then it is transferred to another planet. In BSG there are multiple inhabited planets colonized by ancient humans. 12 known colonies, plus one legendary lost colony called Earth. Legend? Mythical? The colonial humans have gods with the same names as in the old mythologies on Earth; perhaps a remnant from a mysterious common past.

Many thanks to Mikey, Joe and Mike! 💪🆚🦾 The adventure is just beginning. ෴ Since y'all mentioned it, I loved the 1978 series. I was 10, so it was like custom made for me... especially after STAR WARS (1977). It had some similarities to what you're watching now, but overall, rather different (no "skin-jobs", only "toasters"), mostly episodic, very juvenile (I actually think the 2003/2004 version was the most adult I'd seen sci-fi even attempt up to that point). The details that they do bring over from the original were very thrilling for me and I loved conveying that knowledge to my husband when the show was fresh. Keep watching, keep enjoying!

Don't know who is who, but the dude in the middle really seems to love the sound of his own voice. He spends half the reaction trying to crack jokes and then laughing at his own jokes. He seems to have some need to be the center of attention. The more suspenseful the scene, the louder he gets.

Boxy is a call back character from the 1970s series, the writers hated having to put him in because its was corny 'family friendly' crap the money people forced them into. forget him they write him out right after the pilot episode.

"Oh cool! A botanical ship!" Ohhh no. Boxie was a character from the original series and he was given a robot dog so they could sell to kids. He was not popular and this version did not test well. The original Battlestar Galactica (1978) was heavily influenced by the ancient aliens theory and was a direct response to the success of Star Wars. It was originally planned as three TV movies and the pilot was even released to theaters. So much money was spent on the pilot that they had to save money for the rest of the season and led to the cancellation.

FTL in this unvierse is like Battletech, Event Horizon or the wormhole drive from SG. It folds space on itself and they jump from point to point. It just has limited range I guess. Really in general this show is pretty old school which makes sense given the original was in t he70s. A lot of the gun designs, ship designs, the uniforms, and stuff like that have a distinct 70s/80s feel to them that popped up in scifi back then, even with as much as they modernized it.

Gaius Baltar is a narcissist. 2 narcissist characteristics: 1) They are only out for themselves. 2) They don't suffer from guilt. The guy he implicates as a cylon was just a convenient patsy. He needed a way to make people aware of the cylon device attached to the dradis console without implicating himself as a cylon collaborator. The explanation he gives Colonel Tigh as to why the guy was a cylon was a complete fabrication. He didn't know the guy he was putting off the ship was a cylon or not. I took the 12 cylon "note" as intelligence collected by their intelligence organization and disseminated fleet wide. If you ever see the movie "The hunt for red october", the communication style used in the movie to communicate orders/intelligence to the submarines very much resembles that printed communication handed to Adama on board Galactica.

As a quick note on whether they’d jump before Lee and Starbuck made it, since it comes up more than once: Galactica cannot jump until it’s fully retracted the flight pods (which cuts off landing access). The goal was to beat the retraction, not to hope they’d give them 30 more seconds.

No, They were worried because the Galatica is an old ship that's about to be decommissioned and hasn't jumped in a very long time, The Jump beyond the red line was when they left Ragnar anchorage. Not the jump to get there.. 👍

Always amazed at how good Galactica is at point defense, and how shitty Cylons are at close quarters combat. Their basestars are comparatively weak compared to battlestars. To me this has always spoken to the nature of the Cylons, lacking imagination and focusing on one purpose, which was to wipe out the colonies. They never conceived that they would have to come into close combat with battlestars. This is how Galactica was able to beat them over and over. Poor Boxey…we barely knew ye. 😂😂

I look at the original BSG as a kind of TV show the characters in the reimagined series saw about the first Cylon War, dramatized and altered for entertainment as such things become over time, and the various call signs having been ones handed down through the Fleet since that time. The reality of what the Cylons were and what that war was like being much grimmer and scary than what would be shown for entertainment to human audiences who believed the Cylons were gone forever.

That it is! 37:16 It was the other way around, Gaius was considering claiming the ladys ticket as his own but Helo (the other pilot) noticed him and gave up his seat for the genious. it was only after there were eyes on him that he said the lady had the right number. 41:08 had he not known I think he would have freaked out seeing first Cylon centurions and then a copy of himself. (at least some, It was a while ago and it's a little vague in my memory) what I am about to say may have been colored by this fact, but I believe this was my thought during watching too: the only significance to why there are 12 human cylon models is that there are 12 colonies.
