Interesting mission conept. Imagine if this was a movie scene. An American sub is on a recon mission to scout one of the more forward Japanese held Pacific islands. This early on in the war, both sides are collecting intel on the other, trying to guess what the other is planning. Suddenly, a huge formation of unidentified ships are detected by the periscope operator. "Japanese warships sir! An entire taskforce!" The recon mission is aborted. Emergency orders to crash dive are given. The sub's captain decides that it's worth the risk of being detected, if they can identify these ships and where they're going, and relay this to command. The submarine manages to slip underneath the Japanase task force which, luckily, has minimal sonar protection. Capital ship after capital ship steam over the sub, their power can be felt by all of the submariners. The captain remebers the attack on Pearl Harbour. He mutters to himself, "Looks like Japan is just getting started".
