The Clans developed an entirely new technology to come up with an entirely new combat vehicle that was cheaper and less resource-hungry than battlemechs but could effectively support battlemechs on the battlefield. The Inner Sphere used tanks.
@@Szoki86 out of the rules though, the usefulness of protomechs next to cheaper, easier to make tanks is.. questionable at best. Its purely a result on the clans INSISTING on mechs sicne theyleave ttanks to garrison duty only for disgraced warriors.
I absolutely LOVE protomechs! Thanks for taking the time to put a great video together. Hopefully more people will see this and give them a try on the table.
think the word of Blake DID make and use protomechs, solving the pilot size issue by shoving in someone with their 4 limbs chopped off and not bothering to design a way for the pilot to get out, basically turning them into the battletech equivalent of 40k's (chaos) dreadnoughts... The sphere at large also showed some interest in protomechs, but eventually gave up on using them as not only would enhanced imaging be needed, but also they would basically need children as pilots as your average adult is too big, with the obvious issue that the child cant operate the machine anymore once he grows up too much... this lead to the sphere scrapping the idea of using them, though they still considered making some for the sake of selling them to the clanners, the one customer that already have the appropriate control technology and pilots.
True! The Word of Blake indeed made such "ProtoMech Prototypes"... and then immediately decided that it was not a way worth pursuing. All the Protomechs were dumped onto Necromo, where they were destroyed by the bioweapon, ravaging the planet. The events are told in "Necromo Nightmare" (the 2013 Halloween special).
Proof that my phone has been listening in. I have been writing a piece of Battletech fiction for fun, and it features a Protomech Pilot of Clan Hells Horses who pilots a Minotaur P2.
Not quite. Ultralights are usually between 10t and 20t (so there is some overlap with Ultraheavy Protos). And like bigger Mechs they use a Gyroscope to keep upright, as well as a normal cockpit (no EI needed). ....but there are of course rumors that some technologies made their way around....
Shame there was no dedicated WoB protomech designs, Blake know only knows what --twisted-- blessed Manei Domini designs could have faced spheroid/clanner heathens.
I still say that the name Protomech is misplaced. Proto means "before", and these came after Mechs, and are derived from Mechs. As the "child" of Mechs, they should be called Demimechs.
