Interesting topic mentioned near the beginning. I’m fairly sure a lot of peasant sympathy was towards the US, but what was really important was who they thought would be around at the end. Doesn’t matter if they promised a better life if they would abandon them in the end. I wish a certain segment of the American people, and anti American media could be held accountable for how many innocents died in the end. Things like the killing fields, etc…would never have happened.

I am intrigued to see what the makers of this documentary regard as unique about the Vietnam war. All very fine words, and yes definitely a unique war, but for all the propaganda value this has I don’t think that it worked, certainly not in the USA 🇺🇸, the American public soon made that clear, and I don’t think that the American military actually understood what the Vietnamese really wanted, only now, looking back it is easy to denigrate what the objectives were, and that is not what I want to do, denigrating the leadership would be also doing the same to the military personnel, but, I think, in hindsight, the hearts and minds of the Vietnamese would have been successful if the American administration had actually given them what they really wanted, and that was simply to be left in peace to live their lives how they wanted, a way that stretched back thousands of years, they didn’t want to be “westernised” Levi jeans 👖 and Coke-a-Cola didn’t interest the people of Vietnam, maybe the southern leadership, but not the everyday people living of the land.
