The "point" is that your cope about this somehow being more patriotic than modern Japan (poor timing as they are rearming to defend their country currently) is completely irrelevant to the original statement: these are students marching to the front in the worst period of the war. Who cares about how "patriotic" the random Japanese is now? It doesn't really add or take away from the tragedy that most of the literal kids here died too soon. Also, the student speaker in the full version might've been Shinshiro Ebashi, who was executed for war crimes in '48, adding onto the tragedy. Who cares about your cope about declining birthrates? These were kids thrust into war and forced to commit war crimes. A real patriot would be preventing this from happening again.
