Visiting Batu Caves on Deepavali! Plus, a day in KL is never complete without wild thundershowers and me totally embarrassing myself in a basement food court.
Important notes on Batu Caves not mentioned in the video:
- This is my first travel vlog! I'll get better with practice, promise.
- I cannot overstate that KL is hot and humid (all year), so be prepared! The caves open as early as 7-8AM, so you could go earlier to have a bit less heat. I recommend loose/breathable pants over skirts/dresses because you will sweat. So. Much. Plus, you need to have something at least knee-length to wear in the temples.
- Batu Caves isn't a tremendously developed touristic site. There is no interpretation on-site and no option for guided tours on-site. So I recommend reading up on it before you go, so you can fully appreciate its history, significance and natural beauty. See below for some blog suggestions.
- There are 5 caves here, 1 which is currently (and indefinitely) closed (Dark Caves)
- I only visit 2 during this visit: Temple/Cathedral Cave and Ramayana Cave
- I did not have time for Cave Village (2 in 1), but I also wasn't too interested as I understand there are some caged animals that play a role in that one, and that visitors can pose with animals. I don't believe there is a situation where animals enjoy being used as photo props for life, so that concerns me.
