BATWOMAN 3x08 REVIEW | Underwhelming, Uninspired, Downright Incompetent 

We need to send Thorias on a nice, long and painless vacation after this Season is over. Who is with me!?

Leave it to Mary to start the episode complaining about how Team Batwoman are making her their problem and end the episode complaining about how they're not making her a big enough problem.

The writers do not know the definition of the word "powerful" when they say powerful woman. They believe it is synonymous with laughably stupid.

This show is a testament to how far a bad idea can go to drive those who want good writing to go insane.

I don't even feel like Poison Mary is a split personality, all it did was highlight the worst parts of her character.

I'm here to support Thorias through these trying times. The man is literally putting his mental health on the line for us and I, for one, thank him for his sacrifice. But also I've read so many 'plot what plot' fanfictions that are more coherent than this mess. Depressing.

I find it funny how the animated DC shows try to force as many refrences to DC comic books and characters as they can while the Batwoman show doesn't even know that Batman is one of the most importen if not the most importen comic book character.

You'd think after three seasons the writers would have realized the core theme to superhero shows Heroes capture bad guys and put them in Jail! Seriously how hard is that to write!

It's a real possibility that batwoman reviewers on youtube combined are getting more viewers and possibly making several times the money than CW actually did from Batwoman. Hoping CW makes an even stupider show than this so we could get through this third wave with these review videos... Although if that happens Thorias would go full "Joker" so I'm conflicted....

I made the conscious decision to stop watching Batwoman once they portrayed Marquis' mental condition as something to be vilified given his behavior, but now I'm glad I stopped watching because it's done wonders for my mental health, and I will continue to support your videos, Thorias, because I can honestly imagine these terribly written scenes in my head without giving the CW any watch time or clicks. The writing is so painfully predictable that it's not even funny. I've never heard of Bridget Regan before this or seen the shows she's been in, so I can't judge her as an actress, but I have no doubt she's a competent one from what you've said alone. A shame she's stuck on this show as a recurring character, even a great actor can't save a badly written script/plot. Leave it to the CW Batwoman writers to unintentionally create unique villains that could impact the direction of the story, only for their shitty identity politics to swoop in and fridge the character they built up as a growing threat after episode seven. Then again, since I've seen the first two seasons, it doesn't surprise me that they'd waste Batman and Batwoman's rogue's gallery for cheap drama, lazy action scenes and half assed political preaching about how bad straight white men are. Also don't forget about those corrupt cops but I guess season 3 is not focused on racial politics anymore. I honestly went from rooting for Mary because of the shit she went through in season one on top of Kate not giving a crap about her family and the issues they faced, on top of her mother's death and father's false imprisonment, but wow did the writers take her character and ruin every chance they had for her to be sympathetic. As if it weren't bad enough that she chewed out Jacob for wanting to support her illegal side job and making it a legit business, because fuck capitalism and the medical industry she's not like other girls, she now has to make up reasons to feel like the victim, because how dare the Batcrew not turn her into a mummified plant corpse considered as a fate worse than death.....WTH is this shitty writing!? I'll say it now as I've said before, they squandered Sophie's arc and ruined any chance for her to be a nuanced character the moment she quit the Crows. She went from challenging Ryan's ideals about police brutality and not all cops or law enforcement being bad people, to some side chick who's stick as a plot device for awful lesbian love triangles and that's sad to see. It amazes me that this show has kept her on this long, because if she died off screen, I'd not remember her that much, that's how bad it's gotten for her character. Luke being emasculated to prop up the girls is nothing new. It's sad how good of an actor Camrus Johnson is because the scenes without any of the women in it have shown he's good with workable material, but they just had to keep sidelining him and his Batwing arc just to make Ryan or Mary look good. He's proven to be capable of more, but because the script says he needs to be a soy boy, growing a spine doesn't seem to be part of his arc as evident of him whining like a little bitch in episode seven begging for his dad to come back. Alice, once again sorry that Rachel Skarsten has to be a part of this crap since she's the only decent actor here, continues to fill a void of meaningless dribble and cryptic rhymes. Also painting her mental issues in this way is insulting but given how they treated Kate's PTSD and Marquis' sociopathy, it doesn't surprise me that this production doesn't give a crap about positive mental health portrayals or doing it in a way that doesn't add to the stigma surrounding these conditions. Way to hype up Marquis as the main villain of the season only for his straightness to be his downfall lol, can't wait for Renee Montoya and Poison Ivy to be the new main villain lesbian power couple, only for these lazy writers to find some stupid way to redeem these women because of some evil white man lurking in the shadows. It's the same crap they pulled with Jada in trying to humanize her villainous actions and I'm sick of the double standard. Can I ask if the Black Hand society is ever mentioned again, because not mentioning them seems like a pretty obvious and huge retcon. How are you just going to introduce a new evil organization as a conflict in the Mr. Freeze episodes and then just ignore them- oh wait it's the Batwoman writers, they don't reread old scripts or care for continuity in the slightest. Thank you for your service in watching this awful show Thorias, you're saving me the time and energy from watching it myself and I hope you have a great rest of your weekend!

This show has zero tension. Are we supposed to be afraid that the real Poison Ivy is free, why? Aside from this shows track recorded to writing villains she hasn't done anything to make her out to be a threat and its clear there setting up her to be redeemed same with Mary. And speaking of let downs lets talk about Black Joker. Yeah he sabed someone that's not arch villain material, his only claim to fame is taking Wayne Enterprises but it was done in such a lame and contrived way that it just highlight how incompetent Batwoman is.

The fact that this show is still running is surprising. I’ve been watching it and all I do is roll my eyes and yell at my screen. It’s really stupid and illogical. I wanted to smack Mary for revealing Batwoman’s identity to the bootleg joker.

You and poor Az from Heel vs Babyface suffer needlessly when this show returned, I'm shocked you didn't talk about CW being for sale.

I'll say this about the vine stabbing the cop... technically, yeah that can happen, kind of... definitely not the way the show portrays it, though that is actually a Poison Ivy thing, making plants do stuff they wouldn't normally do. But yeah, a vine or just thorny plant can defiantly impale you if you fall on it weird or something. It's happened to me a few times, I'm a zookeeper who works with porcupines and alligators, and I've been impaled and hurt by more plants than animals. Heck, it even happened to Steve Irwin once. He fell off a rock face in Namibia, grazed a tree, was impaled by a piece of the tree, and was actually poisoned and needed medical care. So yeah, vines and plants impaling you can happen, not the way the show did it and everything else the show did was stupid beyond stupid, but this thing was at least based on some reality.

dude the perfect antithesis of this episode is the episode of batman the animated series with catwoman where they flirt and you can tell batman likes her. then at the end he handcuffs her and hands her over to the police with the lines: catwoman: "i thought you loved me" batman: "im doing this because i love you" he WANTS her to get better, he sees the potential for the good she could do, but she needs help to stop doing crime, and he admits that he cannot help her after trying. so he will hand her over to professionals that help people like her. yes it is sad to admit your own shortcomings, yes its sad when the one you love cant seem to help themselves from doing bad things, but if you cant admit it then nothing will change. JUST LIKE EVERYONE IN THIS SHOW!

Immunity is only temporary and the Thorias knows that now. He just finished Cobra Kai and he was happy and then he sees Batwoman and he loses his mind. Well at least that hasn’t changed.

I got to ask why do I have the strange feeling that Rene Montoya has also been infected by Poison Ivy like Mary and Pamela has been able to overheard everything that has been said in the Batcave.

It's great to have it back, nice to see Rachel Skarsten working hard.

So....I think my prediction about "Black Joker lasting for one episode" was right. And I have the feeling that next episode will show that Montoya was right about freeing Pam and that Pam did nothing wrong bla bla and then either in that or the following episode there will be a confrontation between Poison!Mary and either Ryan or Luke that will be a rip off the ending to season 6 of Buffy.

This show is this man’s joker origin story

Oh no, I thought Mary being Poison Ivy and Marcus stealing the entire fortune of Wayne Enterprises would result in them... DOING something menacing. Like maybe Mary and Alice go to the gym and mind-control an army of muscular people to help them locate the original Poison Ivy. Then after tapping into Pamela Isely's mind (through plant telepathy- it's not nearly as dumb as other things in this show), they decide to create some genetically-boosted "doomsday spores" and hold the city hostage until they donate billions to a pro-environment cause. Or Marcus decides to celebrate his triumph by buying enough explosives on the black market with Wayne's money to turn a nearby skyscraper into a giant "birthday candle". Then while he and the rest of the staff have a party right across the street, he detonates them as a gift to himself.

Imagine if Thorias had to watch a 2 part finale.

Why is there only one entrance to the bat cave? There's no back entrance, no back up if the parking lot of the company has a lot of people or the building collapses or anything?

People constantly walk through the GCPD to go up to the Batsigal, but Montoya can’t go in to use their computers. 🤷🏻‍♂️ sounds about right.

Halfway through this week's episode I told myself I have had enough of this dumpster fire of a show. And was ready to turn the damn thing off. Then I remembered that Thorias' review is the only reason I have been watching this show. I really find it way more entertaining and relaxing laughing to how he points out all the flaws and stupidity of the writing. Great job bro. You are the best rant reviewer in this space.

You missed a "ding" for "straights getting killed" when Marcus immediately gets fridged after coming out as straight lol. This show is the worst but it brings me so much joy to watch the hilarious reviews of it by those brave souls like you and Az who suffer through it for our entertainment.

Once again, this show continues to portray Batman in a negative light, when it's his mythos they keep stealing from in order to keep their idiotic show on air. If it weren't for his villains, his reputation or his money, both Batwoman wouldn't have been created or even thought of in the first place, because if they can't leech off of Bruce Wayne, Kate Kane or Ryan Wilder would have had to work for their mantles and been their own people in terms of personality and backstory. These writers have no iota of creativity to them but feel the need to crap on the IP they're taking inspiration from to write their nonsense fanfiction they call a tv show. And they wonder why the CW is being sold off. A shame that a potential Batwoman show could have been salvaged had it had a better writing team who cared for the source material, like Daredevil did.

I’ve never watched an episode of Batwoman (it lost me at “when it fits a woman” in the first trailer), but I weirdly hope it never ends because I really enjoy listening to Thorias rip it apart. I feel for the guy putting himself through it week in and week out, but his suffering leads to so much entertainment for me! Hope this helps with the algorithm.

i wish the bridget regan ivy-casting was saved for another DC project. very rarely do we get a casting as good as this... and now, like thorias said, its being wasted. i think bridget's ivy would've been excellent alongside margot's harley in a future gotham city sirens film or something.

Would it help to consider as headcanon that some supervillain has captured Batman and having the events as shown on this show psychically implanted into the Caped Crusader's mind in order to break the bat? Thus the moment of triumph at the very end when this evil plot is undone. I'm not sure which villain though. It seems a bit over the top for most of them.

I feel for you man. I really do. I am so apathetic to the CW and the Arrowverse right now that it is liberating. I watch these videos because, well, it is entertaining in a sadistic way. I grew up with Smallville so that is a series that I am always going to love, good and bad. The first two seasons of Arrow are still really good and I would recommend them. Other than that, I just don't care anymore. I feel free. Sorry about the torture, lol. I'll like your videos as compensation.

I just hope when Batwoman ends that the writers never write for any other shows, but we do have Gotham Knights coming so they will probably move to that show next as they continue to ruin another DC show...I've learned my lesson from Batwoman and will be avoiding that one as well.

Jeeze. Men can't be anything on this show, can they? They can't be the hero, they can't be strong, and they can't be an arch villain. Not that they would be well-written anyway. It seems when potential for something big comes along, the writers kill it fast. Is it the agenda or is it laziness? Strike that. It's likely both. It's becoming clear that Caroline Dries has this zealous, grand vision that's clouding everything else. She's a searing example of women that should never have power/authority.

This Episode was terrible,I knew that Poison Ivy was the Dead Tree in the Batcave and Poison Ivy's Suit being a homage to the Arkham Game Series insult and offends me and the Characters are freaking horrible that I would Slammed Dunk this to the Garbage and CW is ripping off Killer Frost in Flash Season 3,one of the worst Season in the Series,in all honesty I forgot this Monstrosity and everytime I remember it it feels dumb and empty.

You know Michael Keaton's gonna be as Batman in as Batman in this universe with his Robin. Seriously look it up it's gonna happen. They're working on a script We're all doomed.
