I would like to see you on the Kracken 50, preferably with out Bill, I would like an honest opinion un influenced by his presence. Or they do a smaller one now is it a 44 45 46, that would be awesome.

We need more video's like this which point out the critical shortcoming's of the new and shiny offerings.

I love your straight forward, honest and balanced videos. I would love to see you a more in-depth review of a Catalina 425. Your 40 footer video was a like a teaser.

I would enjoy reviews of smaller boats, say 24' to 34'. We old (I am in my 70s) day sailors and weekend cruisers mostly sail smaller boats. Some smaller boats to review would include the Pacific Seacraft Dana 24 and Orien 30, the Catalina's 25, 28,27.30,32 and 34 and 35, some of the older Pearsons and Cals, and the newer Beneteau Oceanis 30 and 34. Would love for you to review my Catalina 28mii. But I am probably located too far where you live and work. I live in Atlanta, GA and my boat is on Lake Sidney Lanier at Lake Lanier Sailing Club.

Glad to see an honest review pointing out the deficiencies in some of these boats coming from Europe. In my humble opinion, these boats are the results of focus groups consisting of greenies who like to sit at anchor. Big beds, sharp corners, lack of handholds, no mainsheet traveler tells me this boat was designed to be a floating condo... not a sailboat.

More reviews of smaller boats. I think we have all seen enough of 38 to 42 foot Euroboats. How about some 21 footers that are interesting.

It reminds me of some of the cost reduction I've seen in RVs. Looks like it was designed for first impressions and entertaining, and less for sailing.

Look at the 2019 model boats coming out of Tier 1 charter company fleets this year. Possibly the most popular models plus the best bet for Carribean live aboard cruiser. Also the pros and cons of a boat coming out of the charter fleet. Cue the haters.

Indeed, the "floor" is way noisier than it needs to be. I'm sure all those seems are part of the probelm. On my 84 Endevour, the SOLE was a single piece from the galley to the V-berth, to the dining area, all one piece. Taking it out to do below the sole work, was very tediious, so i divided it in two, the part from the galley to the V-berth is one piece now, while the dining area is the other "half". The cut in between is about less than 3mm and trued, and will need to install some sort of rubber to seal the gap and hopefully be quieter than that Bavaria. I agree with you on this boat. Fot living at a marina with occasional sailing the boat would be great, for for 100/150 mles days for a while, not so practical. I would definitely would modify that fridge, and get rid of the silly nav station, and put a clothes hangin closset. Though, loos better inside that the typical plastic production boats. I would buy a $300-$400K boat just to entretain! Imagine the room in that cockpit with a snigle helm! Great video.

Which is why I'd really like to see your take on the neel trimarans, because you mainly one sided reviews online. I'm really interested in the concept of monohull behavior with multihull space

The slanted cabin corners don't look very safe to me either! Nor the sharp corners throughout the interior. Tim - you summed it up perfectly when you said it might be a great live-aboard but not really the right tool to travel across oceans.

As you seem to be covering boats from any decade, I nominate the Beneteau 473 as a subject for a review. It’s a favorite of mine, even though I’ll never own one.

I would like to see some smaller modern boats and see your opinion of them sailing. Pick any thing you can find (you already did catalina 38 and an older Tartan30). I like the smaller boats that take more design from the racing like Pogo 30, Pogo 36, Revolution 29, RM 1070 or smaller etc. A lot of the beloved older boats were based on race designs to weekend race which boats like the the Bavarias are quite removed.

All production boats are designed and built with cost reduction first and selling in the "showroom" second. What they are not designed for is cruising and especially extended and live aboard cruising. With many guests for a short cruise in sheltered waters, they are fine. If you want to live aboard and cruise across oceans then you will have to modify these boats extensively at some expense. Chainplates, hull-deck join, steering, anchor gear, bulkhead attachment will usually all need work. At least this one has a single rudder! Production boats are this way, because this is what sells.

At the Annapolis Boat show, this was the most surprising things... the squeaky 'floor'. I just had a hard time liking these interiors. But hulls, oh yeah... love them!

Excellent series of information. That Bavaria looks cheap and down below it looks dangerous in a seaway. I would like to see some reviews of older boats still out crusing. I.e Rival 32 and 34 sailboats. I have a 1984 Aloha 32 which I like a lot. which is well built apparently has a good reputation for cruising offshore.

Thank you. Having done about 12,000 NM offshore in the last 18 months, I have become very sensitive to noises from the boat. Fortunately, I have been on under 50' boats weighing over 20 tons. They don't squeak much. I've also become very sensitive to open spaces and sharp corners after being launched a couple of times across the saloon. Even rounded corners can cause significant skin slippage vs the underlying tissue. I love the interior of the Bavaria for evening social hour at anchor. But I don't think I would like it in a squall 1000 NM from land. Yes, I admit to being thrown across the boat. It happens.

Sailing is definitely food for the soul, though often good cheer turns to excess and well that leads to a poor lone sole on watch in the early morning hours and a need for real cleaning below...

Most of these modern boats are designed as day sailors or for the Charter industry. More like a New York apartment that an offshore boat. Compared to the Tayana 37, you reviewed, which is a true voyaging yacht.

I started sailing when I was 15 but got sidetracked when I was around 30. I'm now 66 and finally finished pursuing "The American Dream" for others. I'm ready to get back to my dreams before it's too late. Over the years I have accumulated some skin damage, so I'm interested in a pilothouse design. Most of the time when I hear the word "pilothouse" I also hear "motorsailer". An engine is great for getting out of the marina and getting the sails up. After that, I don't want to hear or smell it. Are there any pilothouse boats out there which are sailboats first and motor boats a distant second? Sorry if you have already covered this topic. I haven't watched all of your videos yet, but I plan to! Fair winds and thanks for sharing your knowledge with the rest of us!

All these new boats are just waaaaaayyyyy to expensive for me, so I wouldn't like to make too many comments .... BUT ... This looks as if it was done one the cheap? Pity .... Because I like Bavaria in general. I only have a very modest Hunter 280 ( yes with the swept back spreaders that won't sail downwind without tacking ), but the floors don't squeak, the cupboards last, the hot water is great and so is the space ... For 28ft ... So cheap for me then I suppose. I do love watching what's out there though.

I wish Yanmar would either cut inspection holes in their belt shrouds or switch to a clear plexiglass cover over the belts and pullies. The current design makes it almost impossible to inspect ones belts before/during operation.

This boat is designed to be a condo at the dock. Perhaps a weekend coastal sailor. Can't imagine the interior would hold up over time to heavy usage.

Love the video. Hate the boat. I've been on it twice. This might be a bright and airy interior, (the nicest thing you can say about it,) but the build quality smacks of cheap.

This is a boat built to a price and designed to appeal to at boat shows. For probably 4 buyers out of 5 who will use it a week or two a year and half a dozen other weekends, it’s a lovely boat, but for liveboard passagemaking, there’s much better choices, but most of them are much older boats. For a start, what’s with this nonsensical adhesion to fractional rigs with small headsails and huge mains in ALL modern designs. These are racing rigs! ALL cruisers want to sail off wind, which is where large overlapping headsails really cart you along. You just pull a reef or two into your main and leave all the headsail up she’ll bear (probably all of it up until over 25 knots and the centre of effort will be well forward and you’ll have heaps of power to sail at or just over your hull speed with great comfort and control. That does not describe fractional rig downwind sailing, where some sort of spinnaker will be required. If you do need to sail upwind, reef your headie first but only keep enough sail up to power you through the waves at somewhere near your hull speed.

Reminds me of when the wife interrupted me happily doing nothing to fix a cabinet in the basement of the church , some screw was loose or something so got my trusty every bit in the handle screwdriver and dejectedly walked over , we live across the street so are close to God or something , anyway it was one of those ikea or something 5 foot cabinets with two doors an shelves , forget now what screws were loose but as soon as I started tightening one the whole thing fell apart collapsing on the floor , we both looked in shock an awe at all those pieces suddenly lying on the floor and broke out into laughter , it just collapsed into it's component parts , I figure you weigh about the same as me something shy of 200 an if the floor/sole squeaks so much no one will ever sneak up behind you um what's holding that deck stepped mast up ?

The floor of this 51 year old swedish albin sailyacht makes less noise than that brand new Bavaria, but at least that Bavaria doesn't have the ugly IKEA interior of most modern yachts

My opinion is day sailor is 19-23', weekender 24-30', coastal cruiser 32-37', cruiser 38-44'. If a 42' doesn't immediately impress you with size and quality, walk away. What's the point with all that room to not get it right. Personally, my interest is coastal cruising and most specifically most capable 34' for draft and bridge clearance reasons.

Minority report is in - we hate this boat Skipper. It is literally a stereotype of a floating condo. Nope, I'm not sending my 12yo grandson to look at the anchor underway. If only I could say it is form over function, except it's bug ugly imho. I'll be quiet now. =) ⚓

Yes indeed it is a "Floor". This is another party boat. I would not be caught in the deep blue ocean with this boat. The inside design is impractical and not logical (example: Very tiny sink and the chart table's corners). Yes, color scheme is more fit for sailors.

Yes Tim, I am not impressed, at all: 1) Squeaks, as you point out. 2) Sharp corners, where it should be rounded. 3) Low/no fiddle rails. 4) Your noted lacking of deck preparation, (hand rails the end well short of where they should). 5) Everything you mentioned on deck, for sail handling. This is a party boat nothing more. I would put my money in another boat. Best wishes from the North.

Now that in-boom furling is reliable and proven, no in-mast for me.

The finish on the boat is unsatisfactory... especially at the price point.
