These videos are actually really useful and unique. They actually explain why you need to put in certain inputs ( ie. Why you need to hop to the right, for alignment purposes). It really helps explain and hopefully the RU-vid algorithm will keep pushing your channel forward, to newer audiences.
That's definitely the goal. I mean it's not hard to find top level runs online, but a lot of the time, you'll see em do something and be like "I have no idea why I need to do that or how much time this strat actually saves," and that's why I wanted to start making these videos. Just so it's not like "how can I get better?"... "Iono watch the world records" haha like if I could replicate all the WR stuff I'd have record already
This may have been the most informative track tutorial yet. The track seems pretty straight forward, but you’re getting all the small details that make a huge difference. Thanks for the great content as always!
So, today I decided to do time trials just to see where I stand in the pecking order and did the first four cups, all sixteen tracks. Broke 12!! of my old records, in some cases by over two seconds, but the four tracks kicked my ass: Toad Harbor, Dolphin Shoals, Cloudtop Cruise and yes, my favorite Bowser's Castle. So, here I am, taking notes again....haha. I actually started watching your 150cc videos from the first one to refresh my memory and since I don't speed run often, I definitely forgot a few helpful things.
These not only help when trying to do time trials but ive been smoking people online with these tips. Great series and it wil be awesome to see all the new stuff when the DLC drops this week.
Best mariokart channel and most useful for sure, I hope you eventually do every course as a time trial tutorial for 150cc especially baby park cuz I’m just having so much trouble cutting the grass for each turn
When I watched this for the first time, I was shocked when you said there aren't a lot of twist and turns in this course..... until I saw that former World Records used Dry Bowser on Splat Buggy with Slim tires!!! Btw, thanks to this video, I was able to get a pb of 2:09.062! But I used Wario on Wild Wiggler with Rollers. Also, I had a youtuber raced against my ghost on livestream and struggled a lot. Someone in the chat commented that I got skills and I replied, "Just using them Bayesic lines!" And I wasn't the only one that mentioned you in the chat!
Definitely, though they will admittedly be a bit slower to roll out than the 150cc videos primarily just cause the group I'm in mostly runs 150, but I'll definitely be putting out at least one 200cc time trial tutorial a month, maybe more once work calms down a bit haha
I started playing Mario Kart on the Nintendo Switch thanks to my girlfriend. One night we were randomly choosing courses to time trial head-to-head, and we came across Toad Harbor. She went first and crushed me. I was devastated. I went and sailed through a 2:58. I had played Mario Kart on the Wii, but seemingly lost my touch. So, I vowed to beat her course record of 2:41. And I did just that. First, I beat it with a mere 2:39. Then 2:35. Then 2:31 that same night (at 3am after she had gone to bed). I took a break and revisited it a few days later. I still had the touch. My current record is 2:26 point something, I forget the exact decimal. That's a 50 second first lap then 49 second something and 48 second something. The only issue I have is going faster, because right around 50 seconds on the first lap the trolley gets in the way. So, to progress to drop my time even more (which I can certainly do), I need to find a way to get a 45-47 second first lap such that I miss that trolley entirely. So, TL:DR, I'm now fast at Mario Kart and your video helped me get even faster.
I noticed something towards the end when you were discussing the option of taking the shortcut and getting one box v. staying on the main path and grabbing the double. When you grabbed that double, you got two coins. I keep hearing to hold a coin because the game wont give you two of the same item, but I have had that happen more than once. Does anyone know if there is some reason for it or way to keep it from happening?
Oh in this video I set it to bombs only for the intro, which is why I got double coins. Normally it’s not supposed to happen online unless you’re in a really laggy lobby
Great video, but I do have a question: If you don’t specify what kind of drift to do, is the default drift to do the neutral drift (as you appear to try to do in the long turn by the antigravity section) or try to take a better line with a wiggle drift?
So it depends on the turn, but my general rule of thumb is only tilt the joystick as much as you need to. For example with the trolley turn, it's mostly a neutral drift, with just a *tiny* bit of wiggle drifting to make sure I can build up a UMT, and that's basically because I don't need to move the joystick very much to be able to do so If it's just a bit of a tighter turn, then it's more of a soft drift angle. If it's a super tight turn like pretty much everything on Rainbow Road, then it's a really tight drift angle. Sorry kinda rambling, but does that make sense?
@@Bayesic I think so. Also, I went from 2:18 to 2:12 in under an hour applying what I can from this guide, so thank you! I’m more of a beginner, so things like the double left drift before the trolley turn and the grass cut I couldn’t do consistently, but I tried almost everything else you said (I have >100 hours into this game, around 10-20 of which was spent actually trying to improve my play, so the other strategies will come with time). Sorry for sending such a block of text but know these are appreciated:)
yoo bayesic nice vid but i have a question: i want to start 'speedruning' this game ( not rly going to submit it but just for fun and to flex on my friends) so what course should i start out with?
Kind of a complicated question to answer haha It depends on a lot of factors: what category do you want to run (nitro, retro, bonus, 32, 48, single cups), do you want to run items or no items, what’s your goal time, etc etc I basically started with my end goal and worked backwards, i.e. I want to do all 48 tracks on 200cc in less than an hour and a half. Then I picked a high level run and figured “ok I need to be within X seconds of all this runs splits to get that goal. At that point it doesn’t really matter which track you start with cause you’ll have to learn them all eventually anyway
@@amegis1830 noice. Just be aware that my times are definitely not unbeatable so if / when you beat them, I’d recommend checking out the MK8DX records channel to get a sense of what world records are doing
Can someone please help me I can't seem to get much air when on the grass hope at the beginning. I'm stuck, I always land on the grass and because of that I need to hop again. Please help
As long as your neutral hopping, there shouldn’t be too much of an issue, but if you’re having trouble then you might need to adjust your timing You can always super mini turbo over the grass as well, which is much easier to do
Ok first of all cool video, but I came here to beat my friends time of 2:08.5, which he got with a setup of Mii character, speed bike, and slick tires. He even drives up the wooden ramp after the first double jump just to get 10 coins in the first lap. No air drifting across ramps, no cutting grass, no super bounces. No fancy techniques and way less drift turbos. I know this way has the POTENTIAL to get down to WR pace, but the effort seems too high, considering even you only managed to get a 2:09.0. For now I'm stuck around 11.5 with the waluigi setup, was just considerung to learn the grass cut and drift for the first double jump...
My guess is he's basically following this setup ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-N0-hwq9VSko.html I personally find these setups harder to use because they have much less control than the lighter builds. For reference, I did actually try to beat my 2:09 with the Dry Bowser Splat Buggy Slick build and wasn't able to consistently get a sub 2:10
@@Bayesic Interesting, I think I will give that setup a try, thanks. I didn't realize this kind of setup was viable at all since I never saw it in the record videos or ghosts I watched. For the control, I think the problem is alleviated a bit by using an inside drifting bike. The sport bike handles alright, I think.
@@Lupo9 yeah I always look at the MK8DX records RU-vid channel, and if the current record is using strats that look really bonkers I like to check out what some of the previous records have used and how far away they are from current record So for example in that video you can see that the dry bowser build is able to get a time that’s only half a second slower than the current record. Hope that helps :-)
I was trying to guarantee that I could get a bomb for another part of the video so i was playing with bombs only which I thought would give me… You know… Only bombs Turns out it means only bombs if you’re not in first otherwise you only get coins
@@conkr9240 ooooh ok. Yeah if you’re saying what I think you’re saying it’s literally like while you’ve got a mini turbo built up, just hop out of the drift. Is there a particular strategy on this track that you’re trying to learn?
I've been following your series, starting by the mushroom cup, and man... This track here is hard to the balls. Make one mistake and the run is ruined by at least 3 seconds
Ok thanks it’s just I’m trying to work on 200cc N64 rainbow road. Im not the best at my score is 59.367 I’m 3 seconds off the WR but if you but I can help on the N64 rainbow road if you do it 😊
@@Shmungus72 very nice. Since I primarily speed run this game i’m not even sure if I have attempted that course with mushrooms since I first got the game almost a year and a half ago lol
