Great instructions. While I'm the guy on the dock with the video camera, your instructions are simple yet very explicit & good for anyone docking this boat. As I have another one of these for sale, I'll refer the new owners to this video and your comment for a good learning experience.

The key "roller-wheel" fenders are at the corners where the boat enters the slip. Here I think the port fender actually kept the boat from being gouged as it came in.

@goodshipharmony This video was ment to show case this vessel for sale, not so much as an "instructional video". The pictures that went along with the ad showed very dramatic clouds. Notice how still the water is. In about 10 minutes we experianced a deluge of rain and in 20 minutes 30-50 mile an hour winds. But the selling photos were awsome. They got the job done. Thanks

The front 3-4' part of the slips are angled inward so the bow can go further into the slip. If you back into the slip you'll stick out further as the transom is broader than the bow.

My marina in Orange County, California, you have a choice bow in or out. Most people here dock their boats bow in, but we have docks on either side to enter the boat easily.

Your are correct. The marina will allow it for day use or if the vessel does not stick out past the end of the dock. Otherwise, they just fine you.

Most of the boats at my Marina are Bow in. Reason for that is because the High seawall makes it useless to back in plus. The docks sticks out far enough to clear the river and canals.

Try docking that slowly when the wind is blowing! Also - good thing that dock wheel was there or he'd be looking at scratched gelcoat......

These 3055 Bayliners were powered with twin Mercruisers, either 305's (standard, 220HP) or the upgraded 350's ( 250 HP) and Bravo II Out drives. The video is a selling tool, not "A docking instructional " video.

Never heard of a marina that would only allow you to dock bow forward. Cruisers are much easier to board when backed in. Most all cruisers at my marina including mine are backed in. I have backed in so many times I find it easier than going in forward.

Nothing could be easier than docking a boat in a slip like that. There is only ONE boat per slip, he has rollers at the entry points, and extremely light winds.

Great for you. Just be very sure to give a close examination to all thru hulls, ports, shaft or drive mounts and so forth. Look for cracking and crazing which is the first sign. Bayliners are kings of the chop gun and "chop" does not hold up for the long run. As to "running" Bayliner does not make any of the gear used to actually make the boat "go" so that's on whatever mechanical and electronic you're life is depending on. Just be gentle and don't do any rough water with it.

Back in ! No one at my marina pulls their cruiser in forward unless they don't driver very well. Easy to do especially with twins which the 3055 Bayliner has.

This was painful to watch! I could have backed my Trojan F31 into that slip 5 times, in the amount of time this guy took to pull in forwards once. I hope he doesn't try this on a windy day!

Sorry - but despuite the manuevering advantages of having twin engines this was a flawed docking procedure. The port side of the boat hits the corner of pontoon coming in - I guess it happens so often they had to put those horizontal wheels there. So it's nil points for the helmsman here. ....Anyway - the real test would be coming in stern-first - with a crosswind.

Perhaps knowing that the captain was slowly dying after being stung by a stonefish, and his port engine was disabled after being hit by Taliban sniper fire, and the guy who was supposed to handle his dock lines ran away with his wife the night before. Would that make you happy? Geez some people.

It's called "bow in" just as much as it's called "stern in." And yes Bayliner is a really cheap entry level boat. Just be sure never, never ever to confuse "cheap" in any way whats so ever with quality. One of the many reasons you never see "old" Bayliners!!!

Whoever's running this thing doesn't have a damn clue what he's doing. Good thing the slip has those massive rollers to bounce off of! The reason for not going stern in??? He'da never made it! I've operated a 3055 all of three times, each time backing into a slip, it's not that hard and it's the only twin I/O boat I've ever piloted. This 'pro' hitting and bouncing off the rollers just makes it look like it's hard to dock one. I wonder how many times they had to shoot this video.

Smyyachts Thanks for the video... I've been boating for 30 plus years...and that didn't look bad but... A few pointers, don't go past the slip, unless wind and current are telling you too. When approaching the slip the way you did, put the port motor in reverse, this will slow you down-and-start your turn in, this takes some judgement and skill. When you get half way into your turn, (45 degrees) put the starboard in forward and finish your pivot. Then walk it in with power as needed. The problem with the way you did it is, if there is a wind and current, by the time you pivoted,(which took a while) you will be out of position. By slowing the boat in direction you want to be, and adjusting direction for wind and current, you maintain your position and control. It's not aggressive, it's planning ahead. A wise captain said, don't pussy foot around, just get the boat in the dam slip...lol A+ for going slow though and not blasting the dock.
