Great reaction, M&N ! ...as good as a musician/ guitarist/singer as John Mayer is, you got to hand it to the master and originator of that single string expressive vibrato technique of blues electric guitar playing ... the one and only, Mr BB King ! . All other famous guitar greats in electric blues or rock owe a great debt to BB King.
I agree Jay and as great as John Mayer is, to me this video really highlights the mastery BB King has for blues lead guitar playing since he plays much less but it says a whole lot more which is true mastery in my opinion. Also its being aware of the band too not just your own playing which is a sign of a really masterful musician.
@@ghfdt368 BB King was a real pro and knew what worked and what what did not work, as he came from an era when big bands were still around, all bands staffed by seasoned musicians that were good at their craft and knew how to work together as a cohesive ensemble . BB King was the originator of the style of electric blues guitar playing and he spawned all the other electric guitar blues greats, like Albert King and Freddie King etc. albeit, they did give it their own individual personal trademark sound.. which in turn influenced all the famous and very talented British and Irish blues guitarists of the 1960s.. and American ones too, like Mike Bloomfield.
@@jaymichaels5187 indeed and props for mentioning bloomfield sadly he's overlooked these days as well as Roy buchanan and Peter Green even though they were all phenomenal guitarists
@@ghfdt368 Yes, those three were/are fantastic guitarists. I had the pleasure of seeing and hearing Roy Buchanan preform live at the El Mocambo in Toronto in February 1981.. he was phenomenal ! Co-incidentally, that was at around the same time that Mike Bloomfield passed away.. a big loss to electric blues guitar lovers, Bloomfield was a huge talent.
I really love your reactions. Please react to: Eurovision INSTRUMENTAL SOLOS (1995-2016). You will see European musical diversity and a lot of traditional music. You will like it. Greetings!
This was a great reaction thank you guys! I will say this is a great video to show contrast between different ways of playing guitar. John Mayer plays much faster and more repetitive stuff, and BB King played less but everything played is almost like talking or singing where just one or 2 notes says a whole lot or a phrase says a whole lot This is when you reach true mastery in the blues, not that john mayer isn't a really good blues musician. You can also see Mayer is loving this too and he is really loving spending time with one of his all time heroes the great BB King
