In this video I demonstrate how to import, build, and run the gpioLEDBlink example project included with TI StarterWare in Code Composer Studio v6. I then load the example project to the BeagleBone Black via JTAG.
Here are some helpful links to more information on this supporting topics mentioned in the video:
Get yourself a BeagleBone Black:
beagleboard.org/BLACK
Download CCSv6

processors.wiki.ti.com/index.p...
Download StarterWare and BeagleBone Patch
software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_p...
Very good instructions for using JTAG with BBB for the first time:

Another good tutorial on using StarterWare that got me part way there:

Thanks, really helped me out. Everything working with XDS200 from Spectrum and upgraded CCSv6 with TI's free license file.

Hello Tom, Thanks for sharing such informative tutorial. I was able to import and build the starterware LedBlink project using the import wizard from the resouce explorer view. This means that the whole project has been copied to my workspace folder. This is good because, in this way you keep the original project saved in a safe place without any modifications that you may need to do. The key point is that we need to modify the search file paths of both the compiler and linker in the project properties wizard of CCS. The default ones are based on the default project location inside the starterware library. That's why the building process fails when you try to copy the project to a different location. Once I reentered the paths of both the header files (4 paths) and the libraries (4 libraries) in the CCS project properties wizard, I was able to build it without any problems.

Thanks, the video helps me a lots! I'm using CCSv5.5, segger j-link emulator (v4.56f), and BBB. The gpioled and uartEcho work on the board, and get reply from minicom: "StarterWare AM335X UART Interrupt application" I would spend a lot of time without this video. Thanks again!

Hi Thanks for the video - it is very nice and informative. Hovever, i am having some trouble replicating your results. I am getting a lot of errors when compiling the gpioLEDBlink example. I can see from your project, that i in my project folder am missing: am335x.cmd, "binaries" and the Target Configurations folder. I have installed the BBB patch from TI's website. What could the problem be? I am obviously missing something. Best regards Simon

Good video. I just ran through this using CCS 6.2.0 and StarterWareFree (community driven varient) and was able to compile the gpioLEDBlink example. The resource explorer no longer seems to work in CCS 6.2.0, or maybe it was just my machine? It was easy enough to just import the project files using project -> import ccs. One pretty big issue I had was the directory names in the examples were completely messed up so I had to modify almost every directory by hand, the include and linker directories needed a lot of work. I'm not sure if this is because I didn't use the resource explorer to import the project or possibly because I'm using the community StarterWare. At anyrate, after compiling the libraries as you showed and fixing the directories in the gpioLED example, I got a successful compile. Waiting on my adapter for my jlink so I can flash it, but the code looks good in IDA, so I have high hopes it will work fine once flashed.

Hello Lak, did you find any solution? I have the same problem. I am trying for two days to solve it, but I cannot find any solution. I've already tried to change the compiler to older versions but it still doesn't work.

No, I haven't. I began to do something else more urgent, but I posted something on their forum and haven't heard anything back yet.

+Lak Tesfaye I just changed the version of code composer. I was using v6.1.3, and now I'm using v6.1.2. It works!
