Something like this should be remade for current UKCA/CE fireworks

That rocket the dad was firing should've been angled away from the two boys. It says on most rockets, 'angle away from spectators and overhead obstructions'. You should NEVER fire rockets and other aerial fireworks over spectators heads, it only takes a piece of debris or falling rocket case and stick falling on spectators to cause an injury.

If only the lad obeyed the instruction to take the fireworks in the tin out, and use them PROPERLY according to their instructions, then that accident would not have happened at all. You should never ever put fireworks in your pocket at all nor stand round a bonfire with them in your pocket, as the heat and sparks will set them off. As to the bonfire incident, using petrol or any flammable liquid, is indeed foolish. If you've got a flagging bonfire, use some old motor oil from a car, or a little bit of diesel and extra cardboard and newspaper, or old chip pan fat, or a little vegetable oil, as these won't explode.

Or as Juliet Morris rightly says "Use Firelighters to Help get a Bonfire Going".

@@user-dp6cw9po5k That's not a good solution if the wood is wet or damp. Used motor oil, chip pan fat, vegetable oil or diesel mixed with newspaper cardboard and plastics often helps, as not being flammable, doesn't explode.
