I wish BBC America would show some of the documentaries that the regular BBC (BBC4) produces, instead of marathon reruns of Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Star Trek: The Next Generation. The only way I can watch these is via RU-vid.

@Jammersis cba to find a link, but I remember reading an article that the American accent is closer to the British accent 300 years ago than the present British accent. Technically, Americans are more British than the British are.
@MaryAnnNytowl
@MaryAnnNytowl 4 года назад
Problem with that is that there are at least a half dozen very different American accents. I mean *very* different. If you put a New Englander next to a person from deep in Creole country Louisiana, I doubt they'd be able to communicate very well at first, LOL!

@JumboCookieCali Really? I've never heard an American pronounce it "Hyun-day", they normally seem to ignore the 'y' altogether and say "hun-day". Seems like we're both wrong on that one. The weirdest for me though has always been the American pronunciation of "futile" - makes it sound like "feudal", which is just plain silly. Anyway, I like this ad; good tongue in cheek humour that pokes fun at both nations.

Hello there, and welcome to this DVD from BBC video, which you have ever bought, borrowed, or stolen, although if you stole this, then let’s pause for a sec to think about what you have done. If you enjoy the kind of program that you’re about to experience once I eventually stop talking, we thought that you’d like to know that numerous other quality British programs are available to you on to the US cable network BBC America. Britain produces dramas like Puerto Rico produces shortstops, when you take a class written society with no ability to address its emotions and let it simmer for a thousand years, you frankly have the perfect recipe for drama. British comedies have stuck accord with American viewers for decades; at the very least you seem to find our accents absolutely hilarious. And we haven’t even mentioned the news yet, ah, now we have. BBC America also has outstanding news programming that puts a global perspective to the stories Americans care about, ah it makes me proud to be British. So why not tune in to BBC America and let us entertain you in the manner that you are no longer accustomed to, not only is this an unmissable opportunity to hear words pronounced correctly, but, you can also watch some of the finest programs available, and all for the low low price of absolutely no money, thank you for your time, enjoy your DVD.

@@ankarstian you've missed a few periods where there's more than one sentence where you've crammed them into one. You've also missed a few commas, too. But, overall, good job.

@iceysan .... I hate to agree with what Zgrummons said because it doesn't seem logical, however, he is actually correct. The British have diverged from the English spoken 300 years ago more than the Americans have.

What? What's your problem? BBC America has *many* shows to offer, from Sherlock to Torchwood, and everything in between! Nature documentaries - a LOT of them, and all kinds of drama, comedy, and mystery shows! Just because you don't like Doctor Who doesn't mean there's nothing from BBC America that you would find interesting. Of course, being hateful makes you tremendously less interesting, yourself, so perhaps you don't have the grey matter to enjoy anything that might teach you anything other than being hateful.

Sorry to destroy your hypothesis, but I grew up on British humor, via Monty Python's Flying Circus and Benny Hill! My father *loved* them, and I grew up watching them with him! Thank [insert deity here] for our local PBS stations! But see, we weren't the only ones, because there were many thousands more of us over here that watched them! 😄
