As you would have seen it in the morning, and I think not previously on RU-vid, here is the first hour of BBC Breakfast News on the day after the 1997 election. This section starts at 6 AM, immediately after the local news show and trailer for Watchdog seen at the end of • BBC Election 97 part 8 .
Breakfast News is presented by Justin Webb with Peter Snow, Anthony King and Robin Oakley remaining in the studio after their overnight stint. Jeremy Vine has Labour's story of the night, Jon Sopel reports from the Conservatives, while Charles Rhodes and Nicola Carslaw are with the Liberal Democrats. Sally Magnusson, Andrew Castle and Brian Taylor tells us of the impact on Scotland. John Kettley is a weatherman.
As this was recorded in London, we have the Newsroom South East opt outs presented by Shaun Ley.

A sublime version of the BBC Breakfast News theme, harking back to the magnificent orchestral arrangement of the 1989-93 era.

This was one of the last chances for people to enjoy the original Breakfast News theme tune. By June 1997 it was completely revamped.

They used the 1989-1993 Intro Sig, opt out at the end of this tape was the 1993-1997 opt out. The opt in at the end was the 1989-1993 Intro Sig.

07:58 The Tories were shocked that they lost because they are groomed from a young age that they're 'born to rule'. That attitude is completely incompatible with democratic government. No one should be automatically entitled to govern.

They are about to face that same same prospect maybe even 10 times, no not 10 times. 100 times worse

The was not original theme that dated back to 1883, this was from 1986-1989, there was a later edition from 1989-1993, by June 1997-2000 saw the final edition composed by George Fenton, after this David Lowe rebranded all its titles.

Sadly the 1997 version was made by David Lowe. Hopefully someday soon, the BBC would need someone like Fenton to do a proper news theme.

The election that ushered in the beginning of the end for traditional England.

It ushered in a decade of almost unparalleled prosperity for this country. I’d go back to the Blair days in a heartbeat. We were a happier, more secure, more prosperous, more open minded country. Look at us now, practically bankrupt, an international laughing stock with a revolving door of increasingly useless Tory PMs selected not by ability but by which faction of the Tories is in charge that week.

@@pipoo1 Laughable. Blair and Major before him ushered in a false prosperity like that during the Thatcher years of 83-90. A prosperity built on credit cards and other debts. The Blair years ushered in political correctness in law, like Section 127 of the Communications Act of 2003, which has eroded our basic English liberties. As well as this, Blair instituted numerous other cultural/societal changes that have changed England fundamentally for the worse. You’re absolutely right about the conservatives and if I had to I’d chose competent evil, in the form of Blair, over the fake conservatives we have today anytime. Every supposed issue they’re supposed to be good on, like immigration, the numbers are actually higher over the last 13 years than they were under Blair and Brown from 1997-2010.
