Duff McKagen is arguably the most humble member of Guns n Roses. He is truthful, sincere, speaks with dignity and has absolutely no arrogance at all. He is a pure "good person" in today's society of swindlers and con artists. We need more people like Duff McKagen who tell it as it is and are not afraid to admit their flaws.
+Joshua Chamberlain Completely agree with you. Best self-bio ever. Members of KISS should read Duff's autobiography and actually write something positive.

I read his first book “It’s So Easy” when it came out in 2011. I was very impressed. A very intelligent man, who really reshaped his life, fitness, a college degree, a wealth management fund, nice family.
I have an enormous respect for this man , as a survivor , one who decided to seek change and separation and achieve true happiness . His story is one of remarkable achievement , after the destructive years of GNR ,, I'm happy for him
Appetite for destruction changed my life. this guy along with four more reprobates deserve their legendary status in music and it's great to see duff doing well for himself.
Duff´s voice is amazing even while giving a simple interview. Him and Slash when talking sound like diplomats. Pretty level-headed, calm and elegant even when provoked...
Goes to show you never know what kind of inner demons people are dealing with. Duff and Slash as so cool and laid back, but damn did they ever struggle with alcohol and drugs.
I reckon both of them have gone through a lot shite during their peak years. Before you become wise and clam u need to be dumb and reckless in the first place.
Typical fkin bbc, these presenters dont get there on talent, just got rich parents and went to the 'right' schools. Fk the bbc man, duff is way to good to be on this shite
Duff remained charismatic and unphazed by the provocative and poorly timed 'pokes' at a man who has very much 'been there, got the t-shirt' Absolute legend and my respect for duff just keep getting greater and greater. Stay sober brother 🙏 with your lust for life.
It takes a lot for someone to be so open about their past, especially one like that. I'm reading his autobiography now. It's great as a fan of G'N'R or even Duff Mckagans Loaded. I'm so inspired, he seems like such a great guy
Very inspiring and honest interview from a guy who's seen and done it all. What an achievement to go from being uneducated to becoming an academically driven individual. You rock Duff and I wish you all the best on this reunion tour. Tuesday night here in Melbourne at the MCG was a monumental show of epic proportions. Pure magic.
Great interview. Thank you Duff for the music and the songs........you WERE a positive influence on many of us back then and it's reassuring to see how you've found your way, in your own way, to the life that you want. Now it's your turn to help those who follow you in the world of music, good luck and thank you for your honesty.
"The only life I know is the one I lived". Good stuff. He handled himself brilliantly on a difficult subject, and so did the interviewer. I started off thinking this was too long (24:36 minutes), but ended up wishing it went on longer. Fascinating.
From one gallon of vodka a day to 10 bottles of wine a day to taper off alcohol, addiction equals madness. Way to go Duff, you look amazing! Congratulations on your book!
He handled himself like the gentleman he is,although he seemed taken back by her comments & questions! One things for sure she'll never get another interview!!
+MrTommypops What a nice surprise to see someone in the RU-vid comments section of all places, retract an opinion so humbly and apologise...fair play to you!
There's another video where Duff talks about being on the plane with Kurt Cobain in 1994 before Kurt died. I appreciate that because Duff was there and spoke to Cobain as opposed to all the hearsay crap I read. I respect Duff a lot.
@wildcatter63 Dam Shame Duff didn't Get hold of Cobain that Day & Change History for the Better! It Must Weigh Heavy in Duffs Heart that it Turned out the Way it Did! Much Respect to Duff for Being Real & Slaying the Demons, Genuinely a Real Good Dude! -Cheers😉👍
Love you Duff. It was so hard for you facing up to these awkward questions, but you did an honest and brilliant job. Respect. When I make some dosh I am coming to you for help
Damn, man. My heart feels for you, Duff! Loved your music growing up, and I still have nothing but respect for the work you have done and the joy your art brought and still does. Have a good one!
Duff seems well grounded and a decent guy from the interviews I have watched. Glad he got sober and hope he stays that way. He seems to be very intelligent and a humble person
Wow - she grilled him. Very mean of her as he was being so honest with his answers... which she had let him elaborate more on the subjects rather than find flaws in his answers.
It's funny when these shallow tv personalities try to come off as real "journalists". What does she want the guy to say? He's being honest about himself, and she's digging for some kind of apology or confrontation. Not to mention, she's not even interested in what he does have to say. She should apologize for asking ridiculous questions.
The format of the show is designed on being slightly antagonistic. It's not that she or the BBC feel that way, it's about challenging the guest in a way that most vanilla interviewers wouldn't. Duff knew anyway.
One of the most frank and interesting interviews I've seen for a while, Duff has always striked me as quite an interesting and down to earth guy, the kind of guy who'd be great to have a beer with
"Hey boys, we can't use these lyrics as my crystal ball tells me I'm having two baby girls and I fear I won't be able to explain the meaning behind them when they become teenagers." FFS
+James Harris if you are going to write lyrics about whores.....then yeah it defeats the purpose of having two little girls. he doesn't own up to it. your point is invalid. it's simple i wrote the lyrics and i'm beavis & butthead. he can't even admit to his drug addiction in the beginning. he's completely full of shit. admitting ignorance wasn't even on his agenda. disappointed but i shouldn't be.
@@JamesHarrisGarlingGas my husband did...he wasn't a musician but he lived that kind of lifestyle.parties, women, no responsibility...we had kids and it changed him.
I enjoyed this interview. What I liked about it most was that McKagen didn't let the interviewer away with a single thing. She was asking the most ridiculous questions that proved she had done a quick research of him on the internet, handpicked a few quotes and had no understanding of him, GnR or rock music in the slightest. He could've easily went along with it and made for a generic, easy interview but he came across as having integrity and staying calm at the frankly idiotic questions & remarks
He handles himself so well! I feel like she's being a little disrespectful and belittling with the way she is conducting some of her questions : ( I'm glad he's not letting it affect him!
Fascinating interview. Duff sang 'So Fine', and I listened to more of him on the GNR album Spaghetti Incident in 1994. He looks good and admire him for talking so candidly. Thanks for posting.
What a fantastic man. I remember buying their first album in 1987 while I was living in Hong Kong, I was 11, no one knew who the band was, I bought the album based just on the cover… it was an amazing time and an amazing experience, it has never left me, what wonderful times they were ♥️
Well Spoke Duff !!! Guns N Roses is best band from the 80’s. Appetite for Destruction is a Master Piece of The Rock n Roll and their lyrics are raw and true. A lot of Respect to Axl, Slash, Izzy, Duff and Steven.
He seems like a truly humble, honest man with wisdom and a sense of humor. She's got him on the misogyny thing though-perhaps he wasn't yet able to admit it to himself here.
She is SO annoying! Her voice grates on my nerves... so condescending & judgmental She would cut him off answering her questions. She spoke more than he did! She just loves the sound of her own voice. She's the British Megan Kelly! Regardless, Duff McKagan was great on so many levels, honest, down to earth, and very likable. Really cool. A true survivor. Also great, he doesn't wear any more satanic symbols> I'm sure that helped MUCH. Love GNR. Nothing compares.
A frank honest interview with a truly humble and honest man. Whatever he has done since GnR is regardless. His road to recovery is very inspirational. As a recovering alcoholic and drug addict I can relate to a lot of what he says. Like all recovering addicts, we can learn from this man. Well done Duff...Anthony
Well done Duff!! How you avoid her nonsense predjudice questions. And well done getting on with your life. I have some exprience w. drug addiction. I respect you and the music you´ve been involved with.
I was a metal head, in High School, when G n R came out... and the greatest thing about Appetite, and G n R, at the time was that they were a peak at the sleazy underbelly of LA. A world you didn't have access to and didn't want access to. My Michelle, for example. But you still wanted to know about it. They were like a bunch of alley cats got thrown on stage with ass-kicking music. You can't apply modern college feminist standards to 5 drunk a-holes living in a van in 1986.
Duff I'm sending you're video here to both my sons bc the one son is drinking vodka everyday for last 15 years I know they say an addict has to stop when their ready but tht doesn't mean I'm not gonna stop tryn to send them a message and hope they might get some sort of wakeup call...so happy with you're turn around you're one of my FAVE rock n roll heros🙏🧡🎤😎🤘
Everyone who is into rock should read his autobiography "It's So Easy." This interviewer is typically British in that they have the Rupert Murdoch school of journalism which is too focus on the sordid, in particular sex and drugs and put people down unless they are "establishment. As sated by other people she keeps interrupting Duff and after he is candidly honest she keeps bringing up the past. Like all Brits they envy wealth and there seems to be some hidden spite in her approach. It is obvious she is used to interviewing British parliamentarians who lie about everything, The whole interview is negatively framed and she focusses and re-focusses on the negative. Misogyny - why bring it up. That's all she can focus on the lyrics to "It's So Easy." He admits that when he wrote It's So easy the song he was uneducated and driven by "survival." Most of the people he grew up with In LA are dead from overdoses. Why focus on the so called misogyny repeatedly when he was starving, addicted to drugs and alcohol. Notably it was Nirvana who told traditional rock fans that homophobia, misogyny and bigotry was uncool. Duff succinctly tells her that he was not making a political statement but rather living a rock and roll lifestyle. Duff loves raw punk and lived the lifestyle he could at the time.Would she ask Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Jimmy Page and Rod Stewart the same questions. The answer is a resounding 'NO'" .
+FrostedSeagull bullshit. she keeps bringing up the past because mckagan is full of shit. he was a kid with wealth dropped into his lap. before that he was just joe blow trying to score blow on the street and w/e the fuck beforehand. it's kind of like dipshits nowadays that "you know" broadcast themselves on instagram or snapchat or a fucking million other social media sites showing their tits or their junk or wtf ever. dipshits being dipshits. they can't explain it b/c there is no explanation of ignorance. they're just fucking stupid. it is what it is. but i'm not buying it. even if you are. there's a reason for everything you and i. just not them. don't believe the hype. it's all bullshit and it's bad for ya.
+Josh Winebrenner .... I completely agree with you,. Duff was a kid,a drunken kid when all that wealth dropped into his lap. Unlike the rest of Guns'N'Roses ... Duff appears to have changed. Josh its refreshing to read Comments from someone who can listen and read. Your last sentence "it's all bullshit and it's bad for ya.' made me laugh out loud. Well said .. ha ha ha
they wrote about being on the edge because they were on the edge they wrote about life and thats what made there music, they had it all, talent, intelligence, image, and in alot of ways opened the radio doors for future true life bands, back then radio wouldn't touch them, im so glad these guys are alive, im a musician, songwriter myself and i often think how can you top anything that GnR wrote, they just sumed it all up in such a very clever, unique, and powerful way, just love Guns!! never will be another!!...
talking from experience nothing humbles you like hitting rock bottom with addiction alot of people become humble through it. Duff being a great example.
+sjewitt22 Completely agree with your Comments. It is good to see a "rock star" who does not refer to himself as a rock star. Ace Frehley whom I respect, Peter Criss and to a lesser extent Eddie Van Halen should al take note.
I really like this guy. If any of you haven't read "It's So Easy"...I recommend it. It's a first hand account into horrible debauchery then redemption. I'm glad he survived....lol
he didnt drink that much, but it's easy to say, and if you don't grossly exaggerate who will buy your book. also, his pancreas didnt explode. and it cant be operated on. he had pancreatis, but again, 'exploding pancreas' sounds better
Tony Walton I grew up in a family of alcoholics and I can tell you 10 bottles of wine a day is easy sauce...also your pancreas can most definitely rupture (explode) just a couple fun facts for you.
Even on my level, I can relate to the ''self-medicating'' reference. That's why I stopped abusing alcohol and drugs. Early days still, but I feel much better. The misogynistic question-yes, and no, ''the spirit of rock and roll''? Maybe, maybe not. Who cares, the bloke's a survivor, not a paedophile.
Another interview on him i wanted to coment so bad and the coments were off im proud of all thease rocker even axel imagin being a junki and having enough money to sopport your habit its amasing thay made it back all G&R its amazing their alive always put God first
I thought it was a good interview and Duff handled those tough questions well. The tough questions being those dissected from his book " It's so Easy and other lies" which I have just finished reading.I enjoyed reading the book.
It’s completely possible when you are sniffing cocaine at the same time. Cocaine sobers you from alcohol’s effects to some degree. So it enables you to stay going and keep drinking.
It probably sounds crazy to People that never been into heavy drugs.."partying".. but completely relatable to those who have been there done that... Respect..
