Absolute brilliance. I have always been interested in how people come up with ideas with introductions for shows and for football and at the time this blew me away. It is still incredible even in 2017.
Such an underrated World Cup. South Korea beating Italy and getting to the semis along with Turkey, USA getting to the quarters, the English press losing their shit over England getting eliminated (again), Keane telling McCarthy to basically go f*** himself, Ireland vs Spain going to penalties, and Oliver Kahn getting ze Germans to the final then blowing it in the final. Honestly this was a great tournament.
I remember there was a competition on cbbc to be able to included in the video, if you look at 0:51 bottom left corner there’s a little kid who won heading the ball
Pity this theme was never extended a little and made available commercially. It's a brilliant piece, epic, sweeping, memorable and a pleasure to listen to.
In 2018 I watched a J League Game at the Nissan Stadium, the stadium that hosted the 2002 final, I had this theme in my head during the pre game training, wonderful titles. Going to school to watch the England Brazil game. Bad result but great memories. Would love to see a World Cup in South Korea, or Japan again in the near future.
I agree. I loved the 2002 world cup though, it was bright and controversial to a degree. 2006 was controversial but I didn't enjoy it. I think the comp went dud when the ref Collina retired. Reffing eversince has been bleh.
Yeah it is and there are some other parts from the same tournament in this video. I think they used them after the group stages finished so that is most probably why they are used.
@anil2 SERIOUSLY! You must be very young, if you never saw the Dutch genius of 74, the Brazilians of 82, Danes French and Maradona in 86. Even 98 was better with Bergkamp and Ronaldo. 2002 was awful! Good tune though.
@anil2 Holland were cheated out of the 78 World Cup by the Argentine junta, and in 98, Junior Baiano's foul on van Hooijdonk in the semi was a stonewall penalty. And Holland would've won this one too if Portugal hadnt got a dodgy pen in the qualifiers. FIFA don't want Holland to win :-(
