No-one deals with subtlety of emotion like Sondheim. He goes from the raw powerful emotion of a declaration of love to the gentle caress, all in his music. He is an absolute genius. You hear in the strings the contrast of excitement and trepidation in the scene, with the resolve at the very end, in scene and music. Sondheim cannot be matched. Evans' voice is also stunning
