why are we getting two spinoffs when the main show only has 8 episodes in season 1? surely the main show should be the priority

I'd expect a UNIT spinoff that explains where the weird robot came from. There were a lot of characters in UNIT this season and Kate is a strong character to center a show around. Edit: Plus more chances to see Colonel Sexy in action.

Fully agree they're going to have to announce details of “War Between The Land And The Sea” very soon. Otherwise (presumably) people are going to start noticing cast members filming on beaches in south Wales in September!

Forget everything and just make the freaking time war spinoff already before McGann gets too old. Please. We’re begging you. Season 1 could be with McGann as we see the politics behind the time war before it begins, slowly engulfing all the universe despite the Doctor trying to ignore it. Season 2 could be with a new actor playing a younger War Doctor during the early days of the time war. It’d be a political thriller more in line with Andor.

About the disney+ viewing figures, as someone who watched this on disney+ as an international audience, the poster for doctor who on disney+ (the one that is recommended to people and is the thing that will be the show's first impression) was just...bad. The poster had airbrushed ncuti gatwa randomly placed next to floating colorful space or something. It was childish and honestly very unaesthetic. I feel like this dragged many new viewers away from the show because of how "unappetizing" the poster looked, and probably made the viewers think that it was not a very good show to consume. I am sure only people who know the show actually watched it and they failed to bring in new audiences. Marketing rlly needs to step up their game. Making the posters minimalistic, intriguing, while still retaining the magical feel of the show would probably increase viewing figures. Modern shows in Streaming know how important it is to make the streaming posters bold and inticing, DW just sticked onto the posters they used for promo for TV viewings. When I saw the poster, I knew that no one else other than people who are already fans of Doctor who would watch the show because it is just that bad of a poster. SO SORRY FOR THE RANT I GOT CARRIED AWAY 😭😭😭

The War Between The Land And The Sea could be acronymised to TWBLS which is close enough to "tribbles" to be a play on words. :)

Personally I’d love the cast for the war between the land and the sea to be those characters we saw in the Welsh pub at the beginning of 73 yards, something about their dynamic seemed new-age Scooby Doo gang lol, genuinely that whole regular pub goers group-hidden society/club in plain sight- dynamic would be such a great jumping off point, not as integral/important as torchwood or unit (though the later could make an appearance), something that gently expands and pulls the whoniverse away from world ending cataclysms and into the realm of the creepy and weird happenings of some isolated little coastal village in wales where it’s the individuals that are in danger not the entire planet, something a little more stranger things and a little less marvel thanos snap

Could I mention how much this season didn't make sense... We used to have scenes of Tennant and Piper having fun in the TARDIS and everything going crazy all of a sudden, and them ending up on a random planet. Now it seems like we've already missed half the story when we start the episode.

I'd love to see a Grand Serpent/Vinder spinoff (characters from The Flux), and I'd also like to see a "Doctor Ruth Adventures" spinoff, and one on "the Division".

Not gonna lie; I am *very* worried that Disney [see edit below] is planning spinoffs already -- especially when the very first season they helmed here just finished so recently, and one which they are still getting their footing on. We all are aware of the fact that Disney tends to be... excessive when they get control of a franchise. A zillion MCU movies and spinoff shows, a zillion Star Wars movies and spinoff shows... and sadly, when you focus on quantity, you often start sacrificing quality. [edit: yes, I know Disney obviously doesn't OWN Who now, but Disney, BBC, and Bad Wolf have all commented on their involvement. It's not *just* some generic distribution deal, so Disney's influence can not be simply dismissed.]

There are people who wait until all episodes are out to watch a show. Streaming figures are more tricky.

lol I can't believe they just announced a series three and four. As well as a nine and fourteen spin off featuring Unit and Torchwood. As well as a movie crossover with McGann and Capaldi set during the time war.

I do feel we could get something going forward with 73 yards since it felt like they were pushing it as a special episode that they kept referencing. As a big fan of the episode would be interested to see what they would do.

A Daleks spin off would be great. Maybe set in future Earth , a second invasion or something similar to Daleks Empire.

I hope they tone down the happy-go-lucky PC tone a bit cause like you said in one of your other videos, it was weird how everyone always got along all the time, like this show’s about sci-fi drama so a bit more interpersonal drama would be great

I think The War Between The Land And The Sea is literally an EPIC title. I mean, they can't all be called Boom! can they? Don't expect everything to be cut into easily chewable smartphone friendly pieces. Many of us don't mind the effort of actually using our eyes and ears and brains to consume entertainment, and weren't raised on Teletubbies reruns, TikTok and Twitter level attention spans ha ha ha....

Hmm... spinoffs! I think Madame Vastra's Detective Agency would be a good show--with Strax as her assistant. Neve McIntosh might have to suffer with the prosthetics, but she has so much "stage presence" (my words as an extreme metal bass player) that it would be more than watchable. She'd have to have a catch phrase--something like "Again, I am not Sherlock Holmes!" Heh heh.

Doctor who unleashed is classed as a spinoff. So that + TWBTLATS could explain the plurality of spinoffs.

The truth is, is that Disney are reportedly not too pleased with the show's results on the platform.

I'm pleased about the co-production deal with Disney. It means we no longer have to suffer low budget nonsense like 'Heaven Sent' and 'Hell Bent'.

I expected a unit spin off. I assume that’s this one with Martha. Though I didn’t expect Martha with it. I still think a doctors daughter one would be interesting. As would a river song one. With new faces? The 14th dr living a normal life dealing with normal problems: kinda a comedy drama. Maybe he falls in love, has a family. Susan? The adventures of Susan? I don’t really have any hopes or expectations for any of these. I’m not completely interested in the unit or sea one either.

Really though, multiple makes sense. For staters, Russel has expressed that the show should be a multiverse like Marvel has, huge and blockbuster like, but then also, Russel started the revival pushing two spin-offs back then too, Torchwood and Sarah Jane, one new, one old, so I really wouldn't be surprised if he comes at us with a couple different spin-offs, Tales of the Tardis, U.N.I.T., and a couple new things like how Torchwood was new, I just hope Russel can settle down his political trollhunting tirades so any of it can be good. Hopefully Moffat is extremely involved from here on out, that should quell the beast we call Russel at least a little, and give us some decent bits of scifi amazing here and there. Oh, and make it accessible outside the UK, that's a big one that feels like it should be obvious, but Tales of the Tardis is entirely inaccessible in the US, and I'd hate to have to pirate a whole spin-off again just to be in the loop.

I mean when Deadline puts out a story, you can basically take it to the bank. That goes for the other big trades like Variety or Hollywood Reporter. The big 3 trades don’t put out articles with information that they haven’t confirmed is true

I'm thinking like if I was in control of spinoff 1. Fourteen doctor Stories styled like the Sarah Jane adventures. 2. UNIT series like torchwood and a police drama. 3. Dalek/davros spinoff (I think one of these stories could include how did davros got damaged and got in that wheelchair. 4. The adventures of Rose tyler (it should of happened in like 2008 after journeys end but I think now there might be a chance).

I am thinking “War between the land and the sea” is a cover name to avoid leaks, kind of like they used Torchwood prior to the 2005 release (anyone check for anagrams?). It could also be the name of the first episode.

"WBL&S" is probably going to be the go-to abbreviation. The rumored UNIT series is far more tantalizing to almost everyone, I'd say. Now, if this series turns out to BE the UNIT series, with the Silurians and Sea Devils as the baddies, that'd be just fine. I expect we'll either hear an official announcement at SDCC, and if not, as soon as shooting starts, we'll get location reports that will provide more information. Personally, I don't know if the Silurians and Sea Devils are interesting enough to support a series. Their return in Josie's era was...nice, but didn't leave me with a screaming desire for more. I'd watch a series starring the Daleks, like that CGI series they did a while back. But these two groups? meh. It needs a hero or set of heroes that people would be interested in. Perhaps they'll announce that it's actually called "UNIT", and the title we've heard is either a sub-title or something. I would absolutely watch a Paternoster Gang series, however, with the Sea devils as the baddies.

I would say Spin Offs could go either way, dilute the product (MCU?) or add to the world building (Star Trek) it's a fine line. DW did it before with Touchwood and Sarah Jane and over all they were well received.....Regarding Disney / Season 3 as you say Ellie it's a wait and see, it's a streamed show so there is always a chance people will pick up later. Be interesting to see what the figures were for Space Babies and then subsequent episodes! I think they made a mistake of no returning enemies - Dalek, Cybermen, Sontaran etc as that would have pulled more viewers.

I think the series will be titled UNIT: WAR BETWEEN LAND AND SEA. And be the first in a series with each series having its own subtitle (like Torchwood did with Children of Earth and Miracle Day). I also think they’ll announce the spin-offs at Comic-Con.

Probably should've waited until the BBC report came out today at least where Doctor Who obviously features prominently and the BBC indicate they're quite happy with how everything is going with the show. It doesn't indicate if Disney will still distribute but at least shows promise.

She could be quite interesting having to navigate minor aliens as a human without Dr Who help and with occasional Dr Who cameos for harder villains, so this becomes more of a human -alien interface series (guided by occasional help from the Doctor)...

I hope this comes across correctly. But i think something is a tiny bit weird with the audio. Been watching for a while but in this video the s sounds were quite harsh. Not saying it's the way she's speaking or anything. Just felt very noticeable where it wasn't in the past.

Wasn't it the case, that they were already shooting season 2 during the runtime of season 1?

even if they start filming next month , the spin offs are a long ways off... Maybe they should have started filming one of them last year or early this year so the Millions of Decades Long Doctor Who fans across the Globe do Not have to wait Years in between seasons... just to get a Scant few epsds to attempt to tide the wait for another year for a Third of a Seasons worth of epsds like the recently ended NewWho season 1.

One spin-off would be exciting. Multiple spin-offs all planned at once worry me - it reminds me of Star Wars, where fans were expected to follow everything or else not really understand what's going on (e.g. in the Mandalorean, how come baby Yoda is suddenly back), and when it all breaks down due to fan exhaustion and indifference, the good spin-offs get culled along with the meh ones because Disney seems unable to tell the difference.

Maybe they should have taken out the "the"s and called it The War Between Land and Sea? This is my first time hearing about this spin-off and I'm honestly really intrigued by the title, but what I want more than anything is a Rose Noble spin-off.

I really hope they follow a similar format to Big Finish with their UNIT Boxsets - each boxset was a 4-part story. So imagine this is called “UNIT:The War Between The Land And The Sea” and then next year we get “UNIT:Evolution Of The CyberTech” and then the next year “UNIT:The Terror Of The Duplicates”. This would make me very happy.

Off rip just wanna say that doctor who is shining right now. It may seem like it's tanking but the nay-sayers are always gonna be louder than those who are enjoying the new era. Yes there are minor problems with the new era but now enough to justify cancelling the whole thing when it has been great so far. Would love to see Gwen Cooper as part of Unit or see her as the new Head of the secret, unsanctioned Torchwood in Cardiff working with Unit on the QT.
