The first of seven compilations of BBC Local Radio jingles recorded between 1991 and 2003, with over four hours' worth of clips in total. This first compilation covers August 1991 to March 1993 and features jingles from Radio Bedfordshire (recorded in AM quality), Radio Berkshire, BBC Essex (also in AM quality), GLR, Radio Kent, Radio Oxford, Radio Solent, Radio Surrey and Radio Sussex (with a bias towards the latter two).

I'm surprised that so many stations had the same 4-note car horn motif for the travel news. BBC Radio London (GLR's predecessor had similar motifs going back to the 70s!) Loving hearing Michael Jayston's dulcet tones on Surrey as well as Tommy Vance's on GLR. Great upload.

Very interesting. Being 'up North', I never heard much of the BBC locals from down South in the 80s or 90s, so these are really appreciated.

Radio Kent’s jingles sounds more American than British. I’m also shocked that Radio Sussex (in ‘91) still had the “Sussex By The Sea” signature on their audial idents....

Most of the music above was created by David Arnold who had access to the orchestras at the time, notably the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. He's also responsible for the Classic FM motif. The Oxford and Berkshire stuff is epic Knights of the Roundtable stuff.
